No scratching for me on the screen. On the stainless frame yes, but that’s a separate issue and from dropping the phone. Glass is still pristine and I notice hairline scratches VERY easily (and they drive me nuts).

I gotta say, since 2009 I have owned an iPod Touch, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 5, iPhone 6s, iPhone XR, and iPhone 12.

Never scratched any of them, have had a screen protector for a marginal amount of time during all these years, am always really careful about my things, and the first one that got scratched ? iPhone 12.

I didn't even get out of my house a lot with this phone, so if anything, it's the one that has had the least chances to damage. I have no idea how the scratch happened either.
Really, even the 5 got no scratches? I owned one as well and that thing got scratches by just looking at it ?

Cheap insurance for less than $18 US

Here endeth the lesson.
Have this exact model! Really great. Only thing, they should add a MagSafe ring. Don’t need it now, but maybe one day.

You pay $35 once to get your glass replaced 4x a year?? Wow you’re scamming them lol, congrats. I’d be shocked if that program sticks around

None at all. I still have it today and it works perfectly well.
And it's the phone that I brought in more places than any other, I used it during vacations, at work (manufacturing), public transportation, etc. I had a case, it was like thin soft rubber.

Well of course and obvious, my point is the 13 Pro Max with Ceramic coating is offering zero protection to scratches compared to previous models that have no coating.

Ceramic shield prevents screen cracks not scratching. In fact, these two are opposite, usually, the harder the screen is to break, the easier it is to scratch and vice versa. Apple has been choosing crack resistance over scratch resistance more and more because most people just don't take care of their phones and drop them all the time. Sadly, that means the micro-scratches will appear more easily. So yes, a ceramic shield screen will most likely scratch more easily. I don't like it either, but I understand Apple's logic behind this.

With that said, my iPhone 12 Pro Max has been mostly fine when it comes to this, even after a year of use.

I totally agree with the OP, it’s completely a joke that a phone that cost a fortune gets scratched so easily. I had a 6 for 6 years without any tempered glass, never had an scratch. Just a couple of months after I got my 12 mini and I had the first.

I’ve been here for awhile and every iPhone release there’s some thread saying how the year’s iPhone is so much easier to scratch than the year before. Every. Single. Time.

I’m with @aevan here - harder to crack probably means easier to scratch. I remember the plastic screens of phones of old and those never cracked, but they sure looked horrible after just a short usage.

I’ve had a _____ screen protector since the 5. I used tempered glass up until a few years ago when I discovered iCarez matte screen protectors. Can’t use anything else now - and I tried for awhile - the reflectivity of the nekkid glass just makes it too difficult for me to use it.

Most people, from what I’ve observed, treat their phones roughly. Throwing them in a pocket with keys, tossing them around, dropping them regularly, etc.

What is a scam about it exactly? I dont see any problems with it.

Someone said I was pulling a scam by getting my screen replaced 4 times a year. I replace it when it's heavily scratched or cracked. That's what BestBuy says I can do and they overcharge for the screen hoping I don't use it but yeah...I'm using what they made available.

Yes I can agree best buy handles the warranties in a bad way! I am a manager for ZAGG an I can assure you there is no scam about the product or warranty.

Didn’t Zagg have the same thing? You pay like fifty but can send in the old one and get a free replacement. It’s been awhile since I’ve used them. My wife and I used to use them for years.

Just use a screen protector and a case. It is standard for many phones.
It is ridiculous that people really think that. So a cheap glass protector to protect the high-end glass screen of you 1,200 phone?

How about make the damn phone so durable. Really Apple brag about the awesome and beautiful designs, what's the point if they have to be covered in ugly ass cheap plastic cases?

Really, in 15 years, one would assume they would find a way to make durable phones, but since the customers allow it and created a lucrative market with accessories, then they've created the need to have a case, otherwise the phone is fragile as F*ck.

I yearn for the days when high-end also meant durable, solid constructed - a device that could be used normally and don't worry about it!

And so does mine however this phone model is more likely to scratch or crack than previous models without any protection, that’s the point I am making.
I assume this assertion comes from an extensive experiment conducted on several hundreds of iPhones of different generations, under standarized testing conditions, and not from the would-be very anecdotal evidence that your *single* last iPhone scratched while your previous ones didn't. Right?

You could add that to the list of things 'easily done in 15 years' along with developing a cure for AIDS or cold self-sustainable fusion reactors.

Hard things are usually brittle, resilient things are usually soft.

Are you for real? How is the cure for AIDS even remotely comparable?

I can assure you, there could be durable iPhones if the customers stopped buying the fragile ones, but we are so used to these glass and shiny bricks and the need to protect it that why would they bother. They would kill a lucrative market.

And by the way the iPhone is neither hard or resilient. It it will shatter or scratch, both of them fairly easily.

I think what I was replying to was someone here said I was scamming BestBuy by doing it every time my screen protector needed it. There's nothing on their side that limits me so I do it when I need it.

I could get a cheaper screen protector on eBay but I pay the $30 or whatever it is because it's great to have them just put a new one on.

My iPhone can scratch extremely easy and there is no screen design protection from small drops, the Ceramic coating is BS it does nothing. I am the most careful person and really disappointed with how easy damage can occur.

I’ve seen this phone move and slip from surfaces that have the tiniest of gradients, be warned, cover your lovely looking iPhone with an ugly case
Really? I did not realize there were people who still do not put their iPhone in a case.
I am also extremely careful, but I know that accidents happen inadvertently. I went ahead and purchased (from Apple) a clear iPhone case for my 13 Pro. Am still able to see the beauty of the phone, and it is protected. There is a slightly raised lip that keeps the screen from damage also.
May not be right for everyone, but it has worked well for me and my particular usage...

Funny, that reminds me of the joke "The fork made me fat!". :D

As to the scratching complaints about each years release............More time, more people, more phones, more complaints.
And you're absolutely right about people not being careful with their phones (and most everything else they own!).

That’s not true the ceramic coating is also for eliminating scratching, my point is this the worse model phone to date for picking up scratches and reducing cracks from a simple drop, it has is step forward like they are claiming.
E L I M I N A T I N G ?

No.

Reducing?

Sure.

My iPhone is in pristine condition, so I think this is a you problem, my friend.
