It is ridiculous that people really think that. So a cheap glass protector to protect the high-end glass screen of you 1,200 phone?

How about make the damn phone so durable. Really Apple brag about the awesome and beautiful designs, what's the point if they have to be covered in ugly ass cheap plastic cases?

Really, in 15 years, one would assume they would find a way to make durable phones, but since the customers allow it and created a lucrative market with accessories, then they've created the need to have a case, otherwise the phone is fragile as F*ck.

I yearn for the days when high-end also meant durable, solid constructed - a device that could be used normally and don't worry about it!
The phones are reasonably durable.
Read some of the other posts in this topic and you might see that.
You would have no objection to paying a whole lot more for a "durable" phone rather than just spending a hundred bucks to put it in a nice case (to your liking) and a screen protector.
And what about Apple? How much more would they need to charge to ensure that they wouldn't be taking the loss for every nick and scratch by careless people, that they would not have been able to prevent? (See the opening post on this, where the phone slid off of a slight incline, LOL!)
Maybe about the cost of Applecare + (at the very least) added to every phone they sell.
Yeah, I can see THAT going over really well.
Sure, the rest of us would be absolutely delighted to incur that expense for you. Uh-Huh. Right. Sure.

Best comment I have seen, in a long time.
Thanks.
In my career in maintenance, repairs, and all of the decisions and processes involved, I've seen 40 years worth of people whose expectations have far exceeded WAY beyond reasonable.
Been there, done that
To this dinosaur, personal responsibility is long gone trait.
Sad.
AND ANOTHER THING................if the phones were manufactured to be impervious to damage, what the heck would all the case and screen protector manufacturers do? :D

I guess it's too much to ask to spend an extra 20 dollars to protect your 1500 dollar phone.
For some, I guess. lol. I've gladly covered my phones in cases and screen protectors since the 6+. :p I can't imagine Not using a matte screen protector these days.

I remember my old Nokia bricks back in the 90s with t-mobile - those things looked like crap after a while. My iPhone looks like the day I bought it when it finally gets traded in. (And I'm not putting stuff on it for that reason - I use a case because it makes gripping the case easier - a leather case - I use a matte screen protector to make the screen easier to read).

I don't do trade-ins mostly because they don't pay enough. I usually sell on places like Swappa and get about 90% of the money back on my pristine looking phone to upgrade to the new version every year. Mostly I'm a giant klutz and can't imagine not protecting my phone.

Some people think that scratch resistant means scratch proof. Even Sapphire can get scratched but then it would not hold up to drops very well.

I hear that!
This morning I fumbled my 13 Pro because it was still plugged onto the Lightning Cable.
Though it only flopped onto my desktop keyboard keys (a somewhat soft target), I was sure happy for that tempered glass screen protector and Gripzilla case!
Insurance doesn't have to be expensive.

That’s not true the ceramic coating is also for eliminating scratching, my point is this the worse model phone to date for picking up scratches and reducing cracks from a simple drop, it has is step forward like they are claiming.
The ceramic coating is not meant for eliminating scratches. That is a physics impossibility. The coating is to better prevent shattering.

It's all about the "expectations".
How many people jump for a deal that says "up to 50% off!".
That means, if the price is DOUBLED, it's still the deal.
Caveat Emptor.

I think what I was replying to was someone here said I was scamming BestBuy by doing it every time my screen protector needed it. There's nothing on their side that limits me so I do it when I need it.

I could get a cheaper screen protector on eBay but I pay the $30 or whatever it is because it's great to have them just put a new one on.
That’s the beauty of paying the price for convenience and ability to get replacements.

What on earth are you guys arguing about? Even if the 13 series have better scratch resistance compared to previous series, they still have the capability to be scratched. If you have a hairline scratch on your 13, be thankful for that it was just a hairline scratch. It could be a spiderweb-esque crack on previous iPhones.

Full disclosure: I have a case and a screen protector. Neither one is expensive, but not the cheapest either, and they work great, and look good. Playing devil's advocate, I suppose Apple could include a screen protector with their phone (though why should they, when Samsung & Google don't), but that wouldn't be eco-friendly given that there would be users who refuse to use the screen protector for whatever reason.

Retailers scam us all of the time. Terms and conditions as follows for these ZAGG screen protectors:

Best Buy. Buy here replace here warranty:

  • If you buy a ZAGG InvisibleShield screen protector or ZAGG Gear4 case at a Best Buy store or on BestBuy.com and either gets worn or damaged, you can replace it under ZAGG's limited lifetime warranty at any Best Buy location.

ah. you were not clear that you were talking about a screen protector replacement, I thought you meant they were replacing the iPhone's display.

Cheap insurance for less than $18 US

Here endeth the lesson.
That's no insurance, that's cheap way to make your 1,100 iPhone looks like a 18 USD ugly case.

I prefer their liquid crystal cases. They're crystal clear and very durable.

There are reviews of it turning yellow and brown. I suggest Apple's Magsafe clear case.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Give me a Bullstrap leather case - bourbon. Thank you.

iCarez Matte Screen Protector - on everything.

That said, I used to do the Zagg shields - they make some great tempered glass screen protectors.

I’ve been using these cases for years and they turn yellow after about a year (and my yellow I mean very slightly), then I just get another one. It’s a small price to pay to protect my phone and enjoy the original appearance of the phone. I’m also not sure what those people are doing because mine have never looked like that.

I’ve had mine for 3 months and it is slightly yellow already. But there is no way it keeps the natural appearance, it looks like a cheap plastic case covering a phone; just like plastic covers do covering a couch.

Only ones I like slightly are cases like Apple Leather Case, but those are overpriced and offer minimal protection.

Always got compliments on the case. Doesn’t look or feel cheap to me and it has saved me from many drops. But appearance is subjective and it’s all about how you feel about your phone. I think the leather cases are nice too, but I just love the aesthetic of the new phones too much lately to hide their look.

I am also using the iCarez glass screen protector. I like hie the black border as it blends and is not noticeable.
