... To this day I'm angry about Having to tighten my MacBooks screws weekly. I've taken it in, they've changed the bottom twice, no matter, screws come off weekly. That's unacceptable. ...

A fix for that is at your local hardware store. Loctite is a specific brand, but any threadlocking adhesive will work.

I'd use a tiny amount applied with a toothpick to the threads of the screw. I'd try it on one screw only and see if it worked for 2 weeks, before committing to all the screws.

Maybe I'm missing something, but how would replacing the bottom be a fix for loose screws? You'd need to replace the part the screws screw into (the chassis), not the part the screws hold on (the bottom).

1) While you do have a right to vent your dissatisfaction would it not be prudent to use one of the MANY existing threads, rather then starting multiple threads with basically the same content?

2) What I want to be clear, is the moderators to merge or close without warning duplicate threads, and anchor one of the threads for people to post in and bulk up their problems.

3) This would achieve returning this section of Macrumors to usability for other issues and questions.

1) Now that you've offered some clarification of your line of thinking, I agree completely.

2) Yes, indeed the mods here do have a daunting task depending on the level of chaos brought on by those who prefer to argue and fight.

3) This is perhaps one of the most important thoughts, is as you say, to return the various sections of MacRumors to usability. Allowing those of us who enjoy a good discussion, to carry on with them.

I enjoy nothing better than a good conversation about pros, cons, and characteristics that may or may not be normal. A forum like this where we can share and learn from each others experiences. This helps to highlight what's normal and what's not.

I feel very strongly about the fact that there is no perfect product of any kind, yet there are excellent products. Apple is amongst those who produce products that are well designed, functionally quite useful, and of good long term value. It's this type of forum that properly utilized can enhance the value of Apples efforts.

Returned the iPad. I may buy one someday in the future, but for now I'm happy to have that problem out of my life. I'm sure that, for the Apple Store, the feeling is mutual.

On a side note, the Apple Store employees that saw the screen all remarked how terrible it was and how bad my luck is. Though one told me (after the manager had left the table) that he'd been steering customers returning the new iPad (due to screen issues) to check out the iPad 2. I thought that was interesting.

14 iPads? How much in gas did you waste going back and forth to the store? I would have given up already.

You're a serial iPad killer.
Thanks for keeping these units from people who really want an iPad.

13? Seriously?

He did not make the call on replacing the bottom Apple did....AND why should he go out and buy locktite???

Shouldn't apple be using that stuff?

This is Apple's responsibility to fix, not his.

The Guiness record is 18....come on....keep going OP!!

Why is it impossible to believe that there are large batches of bad screens that have been dumped into the supply chain? Does anyone know how Apple's supply chain works? I don't.

Isn't it possible that large runs of bad screens get assembled and packaged and that stores receive these things in clusters?

My first screen was absolutely gorgeous except for the black thing stuck under the glass. My second one is *pink*. Like it was washed with a brand new red towel. Not pink when doing something ridiculous like looking at a black screen in the dark at 100% brightness, but pink enough that in normal use all whites look pink and people ask you "Why is it pink?"

This was supposed to be Apple's most revolutionary display technology, and when it's right, it is. If it's instantly repellant the moment you lay eyes on it, it's a bad unit, end of story.

I'm returning this one for a refund and re-purchasing it at an actual Apple store. Maybe a different lot, maybe Apple stores have a higher chance of getting good ones, I don't know, but I'm hoping #3 is as good as #1 sans debris.

A few of the replacements came through the mail. I dealt directly with AppleCare, thinking that maybe my local Apple Store had a yellow batch. Almost all of the replacements via mail were manufactured in weeks 4 and 5, so I thought maybe that was the issue. (similarly, all of the Genuis Bar iPads I got were from weeks 3-5 except the last, which was week 15... I don't really know if that matters.).

I did catch a few of the ones I got in the store before I left. Most of the times, the genius bar employee would just have me sign a paper for the service, hand me the new iPad and walk off. There wasn't any discussion about whether I was happy with it or not. The ones with yellowing issues are really hard to spot in the store with the lights they have in there. I probably should have compared them to store's display units, but until the last one I really had hope I would finally get one that didn't have problems. The last one seemed a little off to me in the store, but I couldn't tell if it was just reflections in the store or if I was actually seeing something wrong, and the store was closing so it was all sort of rushed. It wasn't until I got home that I could tell the screen had that prominent dark stripe down the middle - and that it wasn't a reflection or caused by all the bright lights in the Apple Store.

The other guy said it's "optical illusion" due to the way our eye balls work and the way the display works. This is the most retarded comment I have ever heard in my entire life.

Well, if that's the case, why doesn't Apple design the ipad with screen completely filled with dark stripes so that it's uniform? You like putting dark strips or dark spots, just fill up the entire screen. no?

If I were Apple, I would have stopped selling you iPads a long time ago, OP.

OCD can be a crippling disease...

3 were returned right away in the store (scratches, dark blotches behind the screen). A couple were super yellow, one had over a dozen dead pixels, and one even had the bottom half of the screen turn baby blue!

I just got a new one from the genius bar tonight. Pretty bad backlight bleed, and the weirdest thing: there's a darker 'stripe' through the middle of the screen. Has anyone else seen this on their iPad? (Not to mention the pinkish areas)

As far as I am concerned, these are valid reasons to return your iPad. From my experience with Apple, their QC is pretty much hit or miss, and misses have been quite frequent. Getting a perfect device is rare. It should be the other way around, almost all should be perfect or nearly perfect.

I don't understand the mob mentality here when someone points out severe issues in QC (dead pixels, scratches etc.). If no one would demand quality, Apple would never improve their QC, but continue to try to produce these devices even cheaper. Only when return rates are high they might actually do about these issues, otherwise "it's within specs", because it's cheaper for them to deny the problem.

Thanks for the OP for sticking up for customers and not accepting a device you're not satisfied with.

Hang on a minute.... whats all this "Seemed" a little off and "I Couldn't tell" so are you saying that with some of these iPads you have returned you are not actually sure there was a problem in the first place?

Ok, so I'm on my 13th iPad. In fairness, one of those was because I decided I wanted a different color, and another one i decided i wanted to upgrade to one with 4G. 3 were returned right away in the store (scratches, dark blotches behind the screen). You should be ashamed of yourself!

I'm just wondering if anyone else has seen this. The genius bar employee told me that they would give me a full refund if this one still didn't live up to my expectations. I think I'm ready to take them up on that.

Ya think?

while i do feel the ops pains (everyone who pays for a product and then has said product have issues when new deserves a new or better product, for cars we would use the lemon law and seek redemption) just because it's a electronic consumer device doesn't mean that an individual cannot expect the product to work as advertised (i don't see apple showing pink, yellow, stippled, gray stripped screens on their tv spots, especially when touting how gorgeous it is)

if we all take the spot of the person(s) saying they have issues wouldn't we expect/demand a product working as advertised? i know i would (and i've been lucky) i know that if i spend $400-$800 on a product (and most of us spent more) i would try to work with said company until i deemed i was satisfied or would just get a refund

personally i wouldn't have gone through 13 iPads, i would have stopped at 2 and waited...my .02

...meanwhile, I'm still on my first iPad 3 and have yet to find a single thing wrong with it. Go figure.
