What are you talking about? Custom config always has extra 1-2 weeks added minimum so what you posted is totally inline what it should be. No indication of a refresh whatsoever

It's several days longer than a maxed out M2 MBA. The MBP 14/16 delays are not normal when the product has been out for a year.

I expect the refreshed Macbook Pros are more likely to come out next year, and no later than WWDC. It's been exactly 12 months since the 14"/16" Macbook Pros were last released, so it's too soon for them to be refreshed.

The iMac and Mac Mini should be refreshed next month. On wikipedia the M1 iMac was released 17 months ago and the Mac Mini was released 23 months ago. That's in line with the 18 month cadence Apple has previously said they would more or less follow. I also expect the Mac Mini to get a thinner design since Apple likes to use an existing design for the first iteration and then does a full redesign on the second iteration.

I agree with you but it is possible that supply chain could be slowing things down as well. It is a weird time.

Another example is M1 iMac. Check the ship dates with a standard configuration, then try simply changing the keyboard. A change in the packed-in keyboard takes +2 weeks to deliver? I don't think the guys at the factory are that inefficient.

They are. You are reading too much into it.
Any change in config usually means 1-2 weeks extra. Its been like this for past 15 years I've been following them.
We all want new machines but this is not the indicator. Sorry

I've made previous threads predicting the launch of new machines based on shipping dates alone. Always accurate. BTO is always a delay, but not like this.

You guys know what else is funny, years ago Steve jobs came back to apple and removed a confusing line up like this to simply the product line now apple is is repeating the same mistake again, will there be another Steve jobs to come fix this m?
They haven't reached that point yet but they might at this rate.. Before Steve they had 21 Mac models, including a PowerMac 6400 and Performa 6400 that were essentially the same device. After Steve came back that number was down to 5 and then trimmed even more. I will never forget the 4 panels he talked about.. Pro Desktop Pro Notebook, Consumer portable consumer desktop.

obviously anything that is 1 year old is now rubbish. This article should remind all of us to trade it in for $124 and be eagerly awaiting the opportunity to shell out $2500 to replace our antiquated equipment.
I agree, their trade-in program is a joke. No one devalues Apple tech quite like Apple does. I’d sell to Gazelle way before ever considering an Apple trade-in.

If (and that's a big IF) there is an event in November, it'll be for one reason only - to show off the new Mac Pro & 27" Studio XDR display.
Something tells me there is going to be an Apple event in November and it’s going to be a big one. Apple told us themselves… that’s for another day... Mac Pro...

Can you imagine the horror if Motorola got involved again? Maybe instead of licensing out the OS this time, they’d license iMessage. That would be awful.

One of the problems with the clones is that they were undercutting Apple, they were offering better products at a lower price with the MacOS. Apple ended up buying a clone maker just to shut them down, there is a funny Steve video about it somewhere.

So, these computers are great workhorses (I have one), incredibly powerful, silent and cool, BUT:
  • They are heavy
  • They aren't dockable. I know it's out of fashion but I miss laptop docks. I had a HP laptop that I could just throw on a $19 HP-made dock at home and at work and it would connect everything. Now, I need to connect my MBP to a USB-C dock at work and to my USB-C dock + an HDMI monitor at home, because Apple has decided that contrary to every other PC manufacturer out there, its USB-C implementation does not support dual monitor with a 4K monitor in the mix. Yes I could spend $$$ on a Thunderbolt dock but they're costing a lot more than those old HP docks.
  • They have poor battery life in a corporate environment. I work for a company with 80k+ employees and IT runs Intel-specific device admin and antivirus software on all the Macs they administer. It's a pain in the neck, as battery never goes past the 4.5-hour mark.
  • The HDMI port is loose (well documented on Macrumors)
  • It's subjective, but they're a bit ugly. The rounded angle thing isn't super useful.
  • The screen is nice and HDR but it's not useful in my line of work, and it's a far cry from my OLED TV in terms of "colour richness" (not sure what term I should use). I can't say that ProMotion is something my eyes are good enough to notice.
  • MagSafe 3 is a bit pointless as it's so strong you'd send the laptop to the floor by tripping on the wire. I prefer the feeling of Magsafe 1 on my white MacBook (I love the white Macbook)
  • They are heavy
If only Apple made the 13" Pro with dual monitor support and a more practical implementation of USB-C display capabilities - I'd go for it in a heartbeat.
