I hope to Apple’s God there is going to be an Apple event in November. No press release, please. So many people are heartbroken today. 💔
I'm hoping to get my company 13" (maxed out) MBP replaced with a 14" (maxed out) MBP...maybe early next year, as 2 out of the 4 USB-C ports have failed and I have to constantly wiggle the cable plugged in to make it work.

"corporate" spy apps with Intel binaries, like McAffee Virus Scan (don't laugh)... FireEye...Streem... and a well-known cloud storage service that still does not support Apple Silicon.

Ohh...

Displaylink is hacky! I don't like it much. And correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think it supports vertical monitors (I am fussy).

OK, you are right. Screen rotation is not available. But in general it works more or less OK. With DL 1.8 even with more HiDPI resolutions.

I just picked up a 16" 16gb 1tb M1 for £1,680.

I was waiting for an announcement and then decide whether to keep the M1 or go for the M2. But going by the article and no big changes other than performance. AND the European price hike, it looks like I'll be keeping my M1.

It’s pretty sad if the first-ever update to the pro chips isn’t significant enough to warrant an event. And what about the Mac Pro?
The kinds of pro-level users (me) that upgrade >$4k+ MBPs every 3-6 years are not changing purchase decision making based on whether or not Apple does an event production. The available tech info is identical with or without a costly event.

All that events are is costly marketing presentations, and we already have M1, M1 Pro, M1 Max, M1 Ultra and M2 Apple SoC in products now in use. So IMO "first-ever update to the pro chips" needing an event is just a whine. Apple may just be wisely trimming marketing costs during a tightening economy.

Your question what about the Mac Pro? is a good one. My guess is that the Mac Pro will require something that we have not seen yet, such as extreme chip(s) made on 3nm process. One would think that after all this time waiting a new MP might justify a costly marketing presentation, i.e. an event.

However 3nm process production is very very new, so perhaps the MP simply is not ready for such an event, especially if Apple is waiting on N3E. Cook may not want to further pimp the MP if yields have not started to settle down yet after months ago personally telling us MP would be coming. We have not even seen the usual (no doubt Apple-facilitated) leaks yet.

Or maybe it is just prudent cost cutting.

The real upgrade is when Apple move to TSMC N3E which won't happen until 2023. N3 is obsolete and has been superceded by N3E.

I've made previous threads predicting the launch of new machines based on shipping dates alone. Always accurate. BTO is always a delay, but not like this.
When I was pricing things over the summer BTO delays were a month, so not buying these delays at this point as indicating production shifts for new models.

My 14 inch MBP is the best computer I've ever had (and I've had way too many). It's going to take a hefty upgrade to consider the newer model.

iPads and MacBooks don’t need to be updated every year, I hope they can keep with the 1.5 years cycle or longer, waste of time for 20% gain performance
Sounds like you're upset that your Macbook Pro is about to become outdated.

They're going to be at the same price, more powerful, and for the higher configs probably better battery life. Technology shouldn't stop moving just because it makes you feel bad about your current purchase.

Coming from someone who got the 16 on release day, it has been the best computer I’ve ever owned. The battery in this thing is incredible, and honestly for my needs, this thing is a beast. Definitely keeping it for another 4 years.
Who are you trying to convince, us or yourself? See above. These posts from people upset that they're no longer going to have the best are absolutely useless. Mods should start deleting them.

This product line is already maxed out. Sure, you could give the scenario that artist and heavy creators need this. But I see documentaries being edited on Intel iMacs, Burt Monroy creating beautiful illustrators on an iMac G3. These so called creative tools from Apple just come across bling, bling status symbols.
This comment is as stupid as the "you'll never need more than 2 cores" people.

How do you arrive at the better battery life? Not like the energy saving of AS SoCs with smaller architecture is going to continuously offset more powerful processors. There is also the problem that battery technology isn't going to radically improve. :)
