Your post is just really basic honestly and I will leave it at that but the main star of the show is mac and that I will address. Are we trying to go back to the days of the Powerbook with heavy portables or not because so far everyone and their mother wants to see every port Apple has had in the past loaded in to this new device. This is stupid and honestly as the owner of a Surface Laptop and 16"mbp if these new devices are heavier than either of those then I will not be a fan.
The thing I love most about the post is that they are relating to their own personal life rather than the world.
I am carrying a 16” MBP daily to my office.

However as I do carry the 16” daily, tbh it is too heavy for the daily commute and I will be getting a 14” moving forward once released. I bought a new desktop for WFH and find it far far better than a laptop, so will stick with that and go lighter for mobile use.

Good! Let me say this if i dislike the new MBP I will not buy one and you can buy one and while folks can moderate me here and while you can voice your point of view i get to vote with my wallet. So if I do not like it I will not buy it and there is nothing YOU or any one here can do to preclude that. Have a good night.

I carry a 16" daily to work. Have so for years. It's not too heavy for me. The larger form factor is a more of a hassle when I travel though -- more so than the weight. I am willing to put up with it because I like the bigger screen but I do sometimes just take an iPad for travel purposes when I do not need to do any serious work.

I just put in a new desktop too. Working from home all day gives me no opportunity for exercise, so I installed a sit stand desk. But the company and personal machines won't fit on the desk, so they're right next to it with extra slack for all the cables so that the unit can go up and down without ripping something up or knocking things down.

I hope the touch bar stays or gets improved, probably with feedback. I don't think they can make keys yet with dynamic display (I'm a DVORAK user). It's misused IMO by apps, for example, who wants to see the Safari tabs in there? I use it to add shortcuts to the currently focused app using 3rd party tool: Better Touch Tool, it's way better than memorizing the keyboard shortcuts. I loved it when it came out except for the fact that the physical escape button was gone. I'll be very sad if the F1-F12 keys would return in place of the "dynamic" touch bar.

With regards to MagSafe, there's a cheap Baseus dongle that lets me easily plug/unplug my mac to charge. Because back then I thought removing the convenience of MagSafe was a bad idea. So now the MagSafe really isn't going to add value for me anymore.

Good news! Bringing back ports, f-keys and magsafe is exactly what i have been waiting for. If i could wish for one more thing it would be the glowing logo in the lid. To me that is part of the magic of apple

Yup. That's why I still have a 2015 MBP. Love the glow. There has never been a reason for me to upgrade since I'm not doing video and I use Google GPU/TPU for my work. Apple silicon + TouchBar free MBP will be my long-awaited update. I have an Apple Store gift card that will cover the purchase right in time for graduation :p Let's hope since they are bringing back the real Mac that they throw in the glowing logo as a bonus. You never know.

Smart move by Apple. For the last five years or so it has been looking to differentiate its laptops through their physical form. Thinness, touch bar and butterfly keys for example. They are abandoning this strategy. Now it appears it is trying to differentiate with its internals, capabilities and functionality. They do not need to experiment with the laptop chassis and features any more. So, will see high quality and more traditional laptop design with hopefully an upgrade in quality and reliability. This move looks to attract the most possible consumers rather than alienate certain users. It's very smart and the new silicon gives them the ability to make this move. Bravo!
Personally always consider aesthetics as a deep embedded in Apple’s DNA and I can’t imagine this to change, even considering Ive’s departure.
OS security, reliability and functionality also played a big (might even say essential) role in keeping and attracting customers, coupled with easy interaction with the Apple’s mobile products.
I believe software incompatibility was more prone to make users go away than hardware performance.

Frankly it's more like putting some computer back into the pro models.

There does seem to be a shift in thinking of late. Whether we truly get full ports and SD slots remains to be seen.

I think Jony's focus was heavily weighted on visual aesthetics given his background/education. Perhaps with Jeff Williams engineering background, there will be a greater balance of form and function.
Agree that crippling performance over aesthetics is not the best way to go, however usually it’s strong aesthetics concepts that “forces” engineering “out of the box”-iPhone is a living proof of that attitude, which I hope doesn’t get lost as it’s part of Apple’s “think different” DNA. Sacrifice aesthetics for performance only focus, would be also unforgivable, and in medium term (when others get back on track to match Apple’s silicon performance) would make Apple loose some of it’s distinctive appeal...

Sounds perfect to me. The touch bar always demanded too much attention IMO, forcing you to take your eyes off the screen.

An SD card slot would be useful. I think for pro video/photo we don't mind bringing card readers for other formats as it's unreasonable to expect all of them built in (and some are just too large). However, a lot of 'content creation' or Youtube work revolves around SD cards and they're not going anywhere for a while. It's just highly practical to have an SD card slot built in.

I think Apple realise that their purist vision falls apart when they see images of how their products end up getting used - with a mess of third party dongles and external drives. Also with Intel you were often plugged into a power outlet when doing video editing, which made the device hard to pick up and move around.

I'm looking forward to a future of long battery life, lots of internal storage, improved displays and minimal dongles. These aren't attention-grabbing features like the touch bar, but all add up to a better experience.

Yes please, bring back the magsafe proprietary port; i am tired to be able to charge my Mac with many different third party thing (like my LG screen, my OWC doc, my Aukey multicharger) each costing a fraction of Apple proprietary equipment.
Please, bring back proprietary docks too; being able to use third party docs, that are more flexible and cost a third of good old proprietary solutions (not that Apple had ever a single cable dock solution).
Please, bring back single purpose ports too; bring back a single purpose HDMI port, that i can connect to a monitor or to a TV with a cable that is as expensive as good old USB-C to HDMI cables; it is a shame that people that do not need an HDMI port could use the USB-C port to connect an hard disk, or a display port monitor, or an Ethernet cable.

By the way, since 2015, wold is changed.

Maurizio

PS: we can discuss about SD cards; that a different subject, many use cases needs access to an SD slot in a mobility situation.

It takes some time to get over Jony Ives bad Design Decisions. But its finally happening: Apple is back to good UX than sleekest and most reduced but useless Design.

I don't think the market would be that small. I'm using the word niche loosely.
The likely difference between a 13 and 12 model is small enough that the 12 would cannibalize 13 inch sales with little or no net gain in sales; so it makes no sense to make one.

Not "practical" but if it's big and very light it could be desirable and very usable.

I disagree, they dumped the 17 inch model and only came out with a 16 eight years later when they could make one without significantly increasing the size of the MBP. A 24 inch would be roughly half as big as the 16 in width and depth; far too big to carry regularly and for desktop use a regular MBP or Mac Mini with a big screen is a viable option.

As for weight, based on the delta between the 15 and 16 I'd guess the 24 would come in somewhere between 5 and 6 pounds.

There may be a few cases where someone would benefit from a portable Mac with a 24 inch screen but those numbers are far too few, IMHO, to represent a viable market.

And since we are there: my personal opinion (based exclusively on my experience, so very limited) on the Touch Bar is that the real problem (other than the Esc key, that has been finally solved), is that the Touch Bar is available only on a small fraction of the Macs. I have a MacBook Pro with a touch bar, and i use it with Logic when i using the laptop around. But when i am at home, with a big screen and a magic keyboard, i cannot use it anymore; so i cannot afford to relay full on it, to develop reflexes and workflows based on its use, because i only have it part of the time.
So personally i would be more than happy to have a Magic Keyboard with a Touch Bar, but in general, either you do it or you don't; in this way is half baked, and the interest is more limited.

If the MagSafe returns to the MBP at all, it is probably similar to the iPhone12 solution.

That would be a great idea, but I doubt that is going to be the case. The phone solution is slow to charge, and that's a real problem on a laptop made for pro use like video editing or big data crunching—where if the laptop isn't charging at full speed, you could actually run the battery down while it's plugged in.

It's going to be interesting to see if this rumor is true, how Apple will implement it. A completely separate port using a proprietary connection (like the old MagSafe connectors) would absolutely suck. But I also can't see how they would make the current USB-C connection connect magnetically and make it so that if you yank the cord out at an angle, it doesn't either bend the cable or loosen the port on the Mac to the point that you can't get a decent fit anymore.

It would be great if they had at least 1 USB-A and possibly HDMI back/

Removing Touchbar ? hard to believe

The wants for MBA 2021/22: M2, 14" (rounded display corners), SD Card slot, MagSafe (with charge-status light + cable management), 2 USBc, 1 USBa, headphone jack.

My 2015 MBA: i7, 13.3" (squared display corners), SD Card slot, MagSafe (with charge-status light + cable management), 2 USBa, 1 display port, headphone jack.

There's no good reason why we can't have the above ☝🏻 (The wants for MBA 2021/22)

All MBPs should have M2X (M1X this year) and 4 USBc ports. They should get rid of the lower end MBP as it is too close in every way to the MBA. And get rid of the lower end MBP with the worse speakers too. Even now the remaining 13" Intel model has better audio setup than the 13" M1 MBP.
Why would you want squared display corners ? What about a good webcam ?
