Scissor Keyboards were their legacy technology, and they went back.
And function keys were their legacy technology, and they are going back.

Did you ever try and use one of their 'magic butterfly' keyboards. They went back as the newer version didn't work! And all other keyboards still have function keys (including many of Apple's) so it's hardly going back. They are just dropping something that doesn't work, albeit some have found it useful.

While there might be millions of USB-A devices, USB-C is undoubtedly the future. Apple jumped with this sooner than they needed too, but isn't that often the case?

I really can't see MagSafe coming back on a MacBook, but out of the ones mentioned it probably had the best bet. Not a chance of seeing USB-A or HDMI though!

I'll bet you are wrong. Maybe in 3 or 4 years, when software developer have caught up. But not this year.
I bet he is right.
They will just keep the high end MBP 16” as an option if anything, and move forward.

The only intel machines coming from Apple will be the MacPro [if anything]. Cant imagine anyone buying a new intel mac laptop once the new M pro laptops are out.

BTW this post is coming from someone who needs to use an intel laptop......... I will just keep my current 16” for intel work.

I think removing the Touch Bar is a bad idea. It doesn’t hurt being there or take away functionality for the People that dont use it. But it does take away from the people that do use it and that have grown to rely on it. Also bringing back the MagSafe is a nice welcome and adding additional IO will be nice but I’m concerned they are doing this because they will be removing some thunderbolt ports due to limitations with the M1 and if that’s the case i feel that’s a step backwards as well. I’m all for more IO but don’t take away my thunderbolts. Also this would be a good time to implement Face ID now that many jobs are remote. I sure hope that windows ARM is licensed out by the time these new models come out and give us boot camp back or at least some kind of parallels x86 emulation For windows and Linux. And for the love of God don’t limit external monitor support like the 13” got slashed. There are folks that utilize all the available monitor real estate. I’m all for the new apple silicon wave but don’t take away features that we have grown to expect.

They brought back the scissor keyboards because users wanted it.

They brought back the tower-style Mac Pro because users wanted it.

They started making monitors again, because users wanted it.
You mean monitor. And unfortunately they “over made” it...let’s hope this time they go for a more “appealing to the masses” approach...

This is absolutely false. Do you know how many times a day the average touch typist accidentally triggers touchbar functions because Apple didn’t make the touchbar pressure sensitive? Or how many times a day people who would otherwise never have to take their eyes off the screen are forced to look down at their keyboard to find a key they would otherwise be able to automatically reach for?

Touch Bar absolutely makes the machine worse just by being there.

There was a rumor within the last week of a new lower-cost monitor coming. The rumor arrived at the same time as all the other rumors within the last several days, so perhaps you missed it.

These monitors are something I really look forward to, and I loved my old TB Apple monitor.
I recall having a minor freakout at the Apple store when the LG monitors were launched :). I have a 24" LG on my desk right now, and tbh I do like it except no camera which is a PITA these days.

I use a 2018 butterfly and it works fine. I even appreciate it’s “stealthy” feeling. Problem is/was poor durability.

Just meant they’ve not done it yet, because I’m very eager to get one of those myself...

For me personally...never has any of those things ever happened, let alone be a problem.

Dumping the touchbar is everything for us to start purchasing the Pro models again. Until then, we’ll stick the Air.

Spot on.

I think they went down the wrong path in 2016
- with touchbar adding cost, jacking up the price
- removal of essential ports (HDMI, USB-A, SD card), causing dongle town situation
- removal of the brilliant magsafe
- removal of the iconic glowing apple logo

Is it any wonder the 2015 MacBook Pro remained so popular and people hang on to it as long as they could.

Many wish Apple would redo 2016 choices and take a different path this time with the MacBook Pro, take a mulligan if you like.

Where can we go to make Apple aware that there are quite a few people who want to keep charging using USB-C and also the Touch Bar?

Subjective opinion. I like the Touch Bar. I know how to use it. I never accidentally bump it. But that's my subjective opinion.

I bump it constantly in autocad [the escape key is used a lot], and have had to customise the layout of it as drove me mad. It’s fine since I did the customise however.
All other apps not so bad.

I think I would prefer permanent keys for volume, brightness, and spaces then a custom strip. So half and half... how about that for a compromise :)

The 16 inch is what I am interested and holding out for but unless that thing just WOW's the ---- out of me. It will be next year or next M-whatever revision.
My current i9 8Core has not done me wrong or let me down.
The 4 USB-C ports are good but an SD Card slot would be nice. My cameras are USB-C but I prefer transferring from the card itself rather than having to have a pretty large camera or 2 sitting on the desk.
Tal cual lo que dices, arriba Colombia

Would be great if these rumors are true. I have been holding on to my maxed MBP 2012 15'' Retina waiting for something I could be happy with for another 8 years. Last 3 years I really wanted a reason to buy a new MBP but none of the updates got me excited to buy. I held off when the butterfly keys were an issue, I held off when the touch bar was mandatory, I was disappointed at the lack of ports and lack of mag safe, and the internals never really excited me ether. I really wanted to jump on the M1 MBP but held off due to touch bar. If the new MBPs are without touch bar, have mag safe, and a sd card reader it will have everything I was hoping for!! Finally something worth upgrading to and spending a ton of money on.

Don't hope all these rumors are true.
I have had macbooks for years, I honestly had to replace the magsafe charger 5/6 times (bloated battery issue aside)

USB-C is included with GoPro, DJI, HD's, Mobile phones, etc. it is also much more sustainable.

The touchbar is great for scrolling / searching in music / dj production software.

Anyway I am happy with my M1, whatever they release it adorns the M1 even more :)

Oh the irony of being one of the few people that likes the Touch bar... I returned my M1 MBP 2 weeks ago because I want the redesigned model. Now that I'm hearing the TB is probably going to be gone I'm a bit bummed. Eh, if it lowers the price tag at all I'm sure I'll get over it.

Unlikely to see the retina returning in another form. Type-A is done & it won't have a flat bottom. Nobody wants a chassis that's less than 7mm.

It'll be flatter but not flat.

The only reason for MagSafe to return will be something better than the USB-PD. The magnetic part can be easily replicate on the Type-C.
