Nice.
Not having to call or chat with clueless reps is always great.

I've always had a good experience with the AT&T reps who I've spoken with about getting my iPhones unlocked. But I have a FAN account with them and always get transferred to their premier CS dept.

I do too, but even at the premier CS I got many experiences where they had no clue how to do their job and I was given inaccurate information.
Its a hit or miss with them. Its good to eliminate that factor and just go in with submitting your info and then waiting for the unlock.
Way better approach IMO.

Sweet, I'll have to be doing that. Thanks for the heads up.

No prob! I tried to get an unlock thru the online chat service and the rep told about this and I went ahead and put it thru. iPhone was unlocked 2 days later but it stated it can take up to 5 - 7 business days.

Is this an unlock for International GSM, or an unlock to both International GSM and other local carriers in the U.S.A.( assuming Sprint and Verizon are an exception die to CDMA)?

It unlocks att based iPhones to use with international and local carriers.

I definitely think the online site is a good alternative for some. I just like talking to real people, therefore will continue to call premier for my unlock requests.

OP thanks for sharing. I've been looking to do this for my out of contract iPhone 4, but the only AT&T rep in my area is at Walmart; who I doubt could even do this.

Up to you.
For me if I'd rather avoid calling in. Instead just type in a few things on a website and click submit.
I also like using ATM's and self checkout lines:)

They have done a smart thing now it's was crazy talking to the reps.

I got my 4S unlocked by AT&T a few months ago. This site will some quite a bit, especially overseas.

Hmmm...just gave my info to our mobility guy at work. He's gonna use his super-secret hookups at AT&T to unlock me....I hope. But this website seems very convenient.

I don't travel abroad so I really had no need to call in and request mine to be unlocked. I plan on giving my iphone4 to my son and let him use it on straighttalk instead of the phone he has now but since I can just do it online to unlock I'll do it just because.

thanks for the heads up

If you can get in the queue that at&t sends to apple, that'll be awesome.
Good luck with that.

I'm confused how it works. I've heard AT&T/Apple put something into the system, you plug your phone into iTunes and voila. But then today I was told you actually have to type some codes into the phone.

My question is, are both right? Are there different types of unlocks from AT&T?
