It’s nice to see a true successor, to the 15” MacBook Pro. For the longest time I thought, for sure, this would be the sort of machine I’d want, but the more I try to use big machines, the more I think it’s not just the weed that makes them cumbersome; I think the footprint is a factor too. For that reason, I’d probably still say the 14 inch MacBook Pro is peak, MacBook, but again, I’m really glad this thing exists for others (and in case I change my mind).

EDIT: This comment was written mostly through dictation. I can see that there were some errors, but at this point, I may as well leave them in.

This will never get an M2 Pro before the MacBook Pro gets updated to the M2 family. But if it's genuinely going to get an M2 Pro chip, I'll be the first to buy one. It will probably have fewer GPU cores and, therefore, a massive battery time.
The MB Air will never get an Pro chip, because there is no fan inside. It already hass overhating problems with the standard M CPUs.

I hope that the M3 refresh will support twin external monitors, it would be soooo infuriating if it didn't.
The SoC will support, the question is rather: will Apple support it software-wise (inside macOS)? Maybe a hacker will unlock features like this.

I've done my share of hacking in the past, mainly by sideloading custom firmware on Android phones, and now I've grown tired of it.
If a device doesn't do what I need out of the box, I'll simply buy something else. Easy.

if it's priced correctly this Airs will crush the PC market and companies will switch more to Mac.
I still think 11inch air mini is needed.
Not really. In Europe you cannot buy a (new) Macbook Air M2/8GB/256GB under 1,300 € with VAT. And this is a price with promotion/sale/coupon, the standard price is 1,500 €, at least in Germany. Elsewhere it is much more expensive.

If Apple doesn't get too greedy with the pricing (that is, this Air vs. MBpro are priced with enough difference to not pay a little extra for the "full" pro), this seems like the ideal Apple laptop for the masses. I would think many MBpro buyers who buy mostly for a bigger screen will probably find this Air scratches all laptop itches just as well. Only those who need max oomph will prob need MBpro.

I've been buying MBpros since the G4 laptop days, make my living with Macs doing things that include intensive stuff with video, etc... but I'd very likely make this laptop my next one, even if it means saving the most intensive work until I can get back to the Mac Studio desktop at home.

I want to see how many ports it’s going to have. If it’s the same mag safe + 2 ports on the same side then I’ll wait for the 14” Pro. The price will be around the same anyway.

I love my 16" MPB but it if this is much lighter, I may just buy this as well.

The lineup is getting so terribly complicated.

Apple should only offer 2 laptop sizes: 14 and 16, each of them with variants:
- M2 chip -> Air chassis, light and fanless
- M2 Pro/Max chips -> pro chassis, bulkier
- miniled with promotion should be a custom option for any of them

Then anyone could simply configure the laptop exactly as they wanted to and the lineup would be so simple.
