I think the manufacturer of the LED screen is the same - 00000610, regardless of model number (00009C81, 00009C67 or 00009C83).

Also, how do you read the manufacture date? Mine is C1BDFF80.

Grrr... So it wasnt just my eyes after all. I was all happy that I didnt have the yellow issue and I could swear something was off about my screen. Although not as bad as the OP's attached pic, my display does have that shadowing thing. I always felt like my screen had uneven lighting when it arrived. And then I do a search and find this post =\. I can bare it for now, if it gets worse, I will contact apple.

2.4 Penryn 9c83

I just wanted to let you know that my screen distortion was not as bad as the photo suggests the photo makes it look a little worse than it actually is but it was still very noticeable

No, the manufacturers are different:

9c81 = LG

9C67 = LG

9c83 = Samsung

9c82 = Chimei

same here, less than a month old 15" machine, purchased in the netherlands.

the problem just appeared out of nowhere. Dimming the backlight all the way down didn't help. Later I tried closing the lid because I remember it was a bit flakey from the start (about 2mm extra spacing on left side between palm rests and display when closed). It felt as if there was was something stuck to prevent the display from closing completely (about 4cm left). I then opened and tried again, this time it closed okey. then opened again and display problems where gone...

strange.

So, on my third macbook pro.

Yes, it did it again. Only once.

The conditions were low light with half a battery charge. The lid was closed and the laptop was asleep. It happened again. After reading the posts I manually put it to sleep without closing the lid. I woke it up again and it was fixed.

Debating wheather to go back and get another replacement since I can fix it...
I really hope there is a firmware fix for this problem.

Same problem here on a 2.2 SR MBP with Leopard 10.5.2 and all updates.

I can reproduce the beam lights dimming the screen all the way down and then going back. With the beam lights bright increases are not smooth and there is a screen buzz, higher with higher brightness.

To fix it I just put the screen to sleep using an active screen border (in exposé preferences) waiting 6 to 8 seconds. Then everything is normal again. Smooth bright steps, no screen buzz, no light beams. :confused: To me it seems to be a software issue with screen dimming.

Normally I don't see it because I use the screen at 3/4 to top brightness.

I had the same problem. on second macbook pro(penryn).
first one had mad LED problems. Second one had it once. Running on batt and it was about 50% +-10

I had the same problem this morning on my new 2.5 glossy MBP. It was really cold this morning, I left it running for 20 mins and they disappeared. I am in two minds, if to ring apple for a replacement. I am not sure if this normal in the cold, or it is just a duff screen.:confused:

Same thing happened to me this afternoon!

My new MBP is 3 days old, and i am experiencing the following problems:

1: Noise from the screen when dim (lower than 50%)
2: MagSafe light turns off right after connecting to the Mac, but still charging. Removing and re attatch solves the problem
3: And now today these dark spots (excactly like the pictures) appeared when i opened the lid. Disappeared after after reboot..

:mad:

Second time for my screen to mess up... i was playing with the ambient light sensors and i was slowly moving my hand down the speakers and as the screen started to brighten up and the keyboard lights went away i quickly covered the speakers again and it caused the light beams to chow back up...

i dont think the beams are causing any damage so i will try to reproduce it again just wondering if anyone else had their screen mess up by the light sensors... i think i will call apple tomorrow...

edit

and closing the lid and re opening it fixed the problem...

FYI, not even 5 days old, I am on 4th Macbook Pro in the month of March. Had to return the 3rd one after 5 days because of poor display problems. Harsh drop shadows and "yellow" screen (another thread all together).

That's funny! Did what you described when i read it this morning - And bingo, the dark spots appeared! They went away after opening and closing the lid.
But now when i try, nothing happens.

Called Apple Store, and they will replace the Mac with a new one :)

i called apple about the problem the nicest lady was on the phone helping me out she had me hold down the command+option+p+r keys to reset itself 4 times and then she said it should fix the problem lets hope so i really dont wanna return it... she's my baby (the laptop that is)

Let us know if this works. I did this on my first Macbook Pro but it still did it. Did it sound like they are now aware of the problem?

well i didnt ask her that but she did say that was NOT normal and if it happens again to call back immediately and tell them about it and they will try to fix it (via sending it in i think)

It should not be panel issue. Can it disappear after sleep/wake up or reboot?

I had a dream last night that I bought a new machine and it had this problem, i freaked out! Luckily you guys can replace your machines, I'm sure it's a widespread issue judging from these threads.

Sign me up too. I had the screen stripes twice yesterday after having my MBP closed and opening it up/waking it up. My machine is only a month old. Is Apple replacing these or are they just having you reset the PRAM and sending you on your merry way?

I'm on my 4th one now. The other three all had this problem...
Based on my one conversation with a technician at the apple store, apple currently does not have the parts to try and correct this problem. Another response from an apple employee at this store stated he has the same one and its just the way it is.
They are not sure if the root cause is from the hardware or software. To be honest, I am not even sure if this has gone to engineering at HQ as local apple stores are just dealing with it.

So...since they can not send it away for "repairs" it seems they are replacing them.

Really hope they will find out how to solve this problem, and then recall the affected MBP's - But guess that's not realistic.
