My 1.83 GHz with 1 GB ram, ordered on the 10th just shipped overnight.

Same thing here. Mine left Shanghai at 3.48 PM local time. Do you think we have a chance of getting it on Friday?

How is the wireless conectivity in yalls houses/dorms or offices? Heard some iMacs were havin a prob with it.

It seems pretty good to me. The real test will be when I get it into work in the conference room. We have like 2 thousand access points and the conference room is either shielded or so innundated with collisions that it's impossible to get a good wifi connection in there. When I'm in there with my Thinkpad X40 I'm the only one who can survive wirelessly. My boss with his 15" Powerbook 1.67 doesn't even bother anymore. But anyway, in tests around my house where I know there are troublespots it seems to be doing fairly well at keeping the signal.

BTW with the screen turned up to full wireless I'm going to go blind. This thing is B-R-I-G-H-T!

I know I won't, but I live up in Canada so it has to go to Anchorage, down to the main FedEx facility, back through customs into Canada, and all the way out to Newfoundland. I don't expect it until probably mid next week.

Would you like to post a screenshot?

I won't, because there are other people reporting theirs ship on this forum now, as well as the main apple forums. We can't all be lying, right? :D

Apple supports Blu Ray. Microsoft supports HD DVD. Answered.

Not really answered, it's more of a mystery now than ever. ??? If Apple is in the BluRay camp what the heck are they doing talking about HD-DVD in the DVD Player? And BTW I still don't know how to turn on SPDIF.

However, due to the wording in the online help, I'm starting to think this may be that "HD-DVDs" are only supported coming out of iMovieHD with the source being an HD camcorder. But the wording is confusing...

DVD Player Help said:
New video encoding technology enables high-definition digital video to be burned on high-density DVD discs (called "HD DVDs") for better picture and sound quality.

See the attached screenshots.

BTW, going to help->Show Supported Features on DVD player is interesting. On my Mini, HD is not enabled and that's the ONLY mention of HD, the tab is missing from prefs and the online help doesn't mention it. On my MacBook, it is enabled. Same version of DVD player, both are 10.4.5.

MacBook Pro 1.83Ghz shipment notification

Received the shipment notification for a 1.83Ghz MacBook this morning. Tracking indicates that FedEx CN has just received notice that it's ready for delivery but may not have control of the package yet.

With my iMac Intel, Fed Ex was slow to update status when passing through Customs...then the package arrived before the scheduled date.

It refers to discs burned using DVD Studio pro, which will prbably in turn be for films made in Final Cut Pro HD, Final Cut Express HD or iMove HD. So I don't think this anything to do with the format wars.

Updated MacBook Pro AGAIN?

When my MacBook Pro on order was updated from 1.83 to 2.0 the 1.83 product was placed in a"Replaced with new product" section on my order. The new 2.0 product was shown under "Not yet shipped". Now my order has shipped but the "Replaced with new product" section now shows a 2.0 as well as a 1.83, and another 2.0 under shipped. The specs are listed as the same, was there some other change. See the attached screen shot.

Did Apple update the MacBook Pro again????

Looks like we're in the same boat - I am from Newfoundland as well.

There was no change - it happens sometimes when Apple update your order page. With my MacBook Pro order I had up to 6 entries under "Replaced with new Product".

Received

Hi All,

My MacBook Pro 2.16 / 7200 RPM drive just showed up at 9:30 AM -- a day earlier than FedEx showed. I'll let you know how it goes. First impressions are that it is noticably slimmer than my 1.67 G4 PowerBook (work computer.) Just opened the box, so I'll keep ya'll posted. Oh, the power brick is *much* larger than the older ones. Thankfully, it really doesn't seem much heavier (if at all?), though.

I read a good tip in a magazine today for clearing out excess in the iLife apps..

-> iLife 06 applications take up a lot of disk space - and iWeb is the worst offender. In fact, iWeb consumes more disk space that Adobe InDesign and Photoshop put together. Most of this bloat is made up of foreign language resources, which can be deleted. With the iWeb application highlighted in the Finder, choose File>Get Info. Click the Languages arrow near the bottom of the Get Info palette. Select a langauge you do not need and click the Remove button. Repeat for all unwanted applications [I think they mean langauges]. The same trick can be used in other iLife applications, but you should always back up your data before you sping clean! <-

Aren't I nice typing all that out for you... ;)

Thanks for this tip, by taking out the other languages in iLife and iWork applications i got about 1.5 gigs back. Its amazing how much space this saves.

I did that to all my apps and got approx 5.34 GB Back!!!!!!!!!:D :D

Go Find DeLocalizer (download.com) and get rid of all the help files and such in other languages (should save anywhere from 1-3 gig's of space), I do this to each machine each time I reload or buy a new one.

... Aaaaah!

They finally discontinued the PowerBook G4 15"

R.I.P. you've been a good and faithful friend.

Think about it it is probably made on the same assimbly Line and they wanted to make extras for the stores and stuff. that may be the reason that the MBP was so Delayed!!!!!

You bought your 2nd GB of RAM from Apple  Why? It is sooo expensive!

In answer to your question, who knows. Sorry!

Just an update on my UK 2.0 order. As of 17:51 GMT today my MBP was "Consignment Received At Transit Point" at the Arnhem Hub.

Looks like its going to be in my grubby hands tomorrow afternoon. Overnight shipping to London, then to me soon after... Hopefully!

No problems here. Linksys Wireless-G Router at one end of the house on 1st floor. I'm upstairs on 2nd floor other corner. Full strength.
