This subject has been beaten to hell and back, and back again.. and it's currently on its 3rd round to hell. Patience is a virtue you know.

I need a new 15" PowerBook now, to boost my sex appeal among hot sexy coeds who put out. Release them now, Apple!

(NOTE: That post was a parody of many other posts I have seen in many other PowerBook threads. It does not reflect the opinions of Phil Welch, MacRumors, or Washington State University. Caution: Hot.)

Yeah.. Guess I'm in that category too..*sighing sheepishly*🙁

In my experience, girls don't get all hot and bothered over laptops...that's what VW Jettas are for...trust me...😀

If the like Jettas more than computers, what good are they anyway?

I've found that girls DO get hot and bothered about a thing that's in your lap... just not the computin' kind of thing!

A nice car projects a much more attractive aura than a Powerbook. Don't get me wrong, I love the sex appeal of the Powerbooks, I just sold mine to get the G5 Powerbook that's gonna be announced in Paris...lol, don't get me started. Now I'm stuck with this measly 12.1 iBook when I wish I had a sexy Titanium Powerbook instead. Most of the really beautiful girls I know would pick a guy with my Jetta over a guy with a Powerbook any day...sorry. 😀

What if you had a PowerBook AND a Jetta?

I did, and that works too. Soon I will again.....ha ha ha. I read your bio btw...you and I would get along quite nicely based on the fourth paragraph of your bio. But I have much deeper thoughts on the matter, which are reserved for another forum and another time.

I'd go with the ability to relate and to find out what a woman's passions are over a Powerbook and Jetta any day...

Of course the Jetta comes in handy when you have to take them back to your place...

And the Powerbook is useful when waiting for that just right one to walk by... and after when she's all woozy and passed out on the bed...

😉

I whole heartedly agree, but the two make nice ice-breakers...along with their other uses you mentioned 😀

I thought the trick was to become the woman's passions...?

Am I missing anything?
Yo' agent. heres anotherone for ya Babes!! 🙂 Now what if the girl holds the powerbook in the Jetta or is like Angelina Jolie in hackers??

Ice breakers I like to use are usually about a particular piece of jewelry she wearing, how she has her hair done, a catchy piece of clothing she's wearing, the excellent shape of her calves ( although you must be careful on body parts, usually too personal, but I've had luck in complimenting legs... ), or that wry look she just gave...

But I guess this is a little off topic!

funny you say this because when i was buying my TiBook at the Apple store today, I mentioned about putting my iPod in the car and the employee asks "what kind of car?" and i reply "new jetta" and he responds back with a sarcastic smile "an Apple user driving a VW? THATS a shock!"

we both had a laugh 🙂

I'll take that as an appology.... 😉

...But what I see them doing time and time again is pricing their hardware too high...

See, now here is where we disagree. If you compare equivalent hardware then you can usually see that Macs are actually priced quite competitively. Now, you might argue that there is no equivalent hardware because the G4 is so far behind in performance. To which I'd reply that there hasn't been a whole lot that Apple could do about that.

Now the G5 is out, and we may well start seeing Macs outperforming PCs by significant amounts again, like the days of the G3.

But you could still say that you can build a killer Intel system for a lot less than a Mac, but would you really be using equivalent hardware? And, more to the point, could you buy such a killer system from Dell, Gateway or HP with equivalent hardware to what Macs offer and still save money? From what I've seen, the answer is fairly consistently 'no'.

Case in point: the killing of the clones. I've been using Macs for about 15 years--and the clone-era is the only extended period I remember where Macs were matching, nay even beating, PCs at price/performance! I had PC IT-department friends who, for the first time, were genuinely excited about the Mac platform and wanted to make big purchases! Yes, this is anecdotal, but it also makes a lot of sense. Why did Apple kill the clones? Because Apple was losing hardware sales to competitive clonemakers--meaning that customers were getting a better deal.

From what I read, it was far more complicated than that. Yes, they were losing hardware sales. They were in a tight place, at that point, and the prospect of losing those hardware sales was bringing the possibility of bankrupcy that much closer. So, first point, would you rather have the clones around and no Apple, or would you like to still have Apple?

Second, yes, there were cheaper computers around that were running the MacOS, but there was a price for this. The cheaper computers were made with cheaper parts, and they weren't as stable as the real Macs. So, now a lot of what Apple had worked for in image was being shot in the foot because they had to deal with cheaper hardware being available that didn't necessarily live up to the standards they would have liked. Thus, another mark against letting the clones live...
