Cell phones started big. As technology improved, those who could afford the latest, smallest phones got them. If you could only afford old tech, you got a big, clunky phone. Somehow, Apple has convinced people that big, clunky phones are fashionable. I prefer functionality (meaning a SMALL, portable phone that easily fits in my pocket, and that I easily can operate with one hand.)

Yes... cell phones started big. Gordon Gekko big. But now you can get a cell phone that fits on your wrist. It's quite amazing how far we've come!

However... notice the gap in the lineup below. That's the smartphone revolution.

These devices have become people's primary (and sometimes only) device for computing. So of course they want the biggest screen available. But that means, unfortunately, a bigger device.

I'm going to hazard a guess the 16" will be in the same form factor as the current 15.4" model, just with slimmer bezels to allow more display area (ala the iPad Pro 10.5 to 11).

That would sound good. People need more display area... so by increasing the display size, more viewable space can be shown

Agreed but if there isn’t some kind of improved “Find My AirPods” feature that allows them to either emit a loud noise or to have the the iPhone or iPad you’re using to find them emit a tone that gets louder as you get closer to them then I’m out.

I’m confused, they already do emit a loud sound using find my iPhone? In fact, I used this feature last night when I couldn’t remember where I had left them.

I'm thinking the new 17 in. MBP and Mac Pro are going to be geared toward gamers.

That's right. I said "gamers"

WWDC 2019 here we come.
nope it's geared towards 50+ professionals with (age related) decline in eyesight. Even Apple higher management is aging.

Same here, I use my phone as a phone, mainly. little bit of messaging and calendar.
For the rest, iPad.
iPhone 4s was my most favourite phone by far.

A truly updated iPad Mini would make carrying a larger iPad unnecessary and actually complement the smaller phone in almost a 'no-brainer, I'll carry it' way.

I picked my new phone based on # bars, clarity, hotspot performance & modem, and then ability to do tablet stuff. I also had not yet bought into any specific ecosystem, either. Needless to say, it wasn't an Apple because of the phone things I wanted.

Why on earth shouldn’t they? I mean, they were released December 2016, so even if you were an early adopter, they are barely 2 years old.

This has nothing to do with being an early adopter per se, take into consideration that the lithium ion battery in AirPods is extremely small, and when they’re used almost everyday and not regularly charged , that eventually degrades the battery life over the course of time. A lot of users have commented their AirPods are barely holding a charge past an hour, which is why others are seeking to upgrade to version two of the AirPods. [And to replace an AirPod is $69].

I always make sure to charge my AirPods regularly and don’t allow them to fully deplete, that helps the overall health of the lithium ion battery in the AirPods. Not everybody (Inclduing the member ‘Trifd’ who literally provided you a direct example above in their post) treats their devices like mine, hence why others AirPods batteries are likely need of replacement.

It may have made financial sense when they axed the 17", but now that things have turned around (just a little, no? :D)

Back she must come. Welcome back old friend :)
I would say more than a little, the small bezel trend and stagnating processor efficiency seem to be giving 17” laptops on the windows side something of a Renaissance - we’ve seen the LG gram 17, ROG Zephyrus thin and light gaming laptop introduced recently to name but a couple! Really good news if you favour larger screen sizes :)

Mine are about 2 years old and the battery is severely degraded, they last about half as much as when they were new. I like them so much I’m waiting for next gen to rebuy, but unfortunately they are disposable.

I understand, but shouldn't we put much more pressure on companies to generate devices and equipment that can get heir battery changed? We need to get an attitude to not dispose stuff that is not truly unrepairable broken.

No chance. The Mac has never been a viable gaming platform. iOS on the other hand is great for gaming on the go thanks to strong developer support & powerful hardware that is ideally suited to gaming.

16.5" macbook pro sounds interesting. But given Apples trend in low end graphics-cards and extortionate pricing, probably not.

I dont know why they went with touchID in their laptops. It seems faceID makes way more sense for the laptops.

It’s called ‘Vote with your wallet’, if you don’t like the expectation that Apple releases something with XYZ amount of hours that it’s rated for battery life or that it degrades over the course of time with usage, then _don’t buy it_. That’s the only way you will put ‘pressure’ on a company like Apple. Otherwise, I would say the vast majority are completely satisfied with the AirPods battery life experience, including myself.

You guys need to learn the difference between SPECULATION and RUMOR. This is nothing more than wishful thinking from someone with a terrible track record. Not cool getting everyone's hopes up over nothing.
Reporting somebody else's speculation without knowing how much of it is knowledge, reasonable deduction, and pure speculation, turns things into a rumour.

Why would any firm pay Kuo when they can get his information for free on MacRumors?
Headstart. Anybody trading Apple stocks (and related companies from suppliers to competitors) might draw conclusions from Kuo's predictions in regard to expected stock prices (or rather changes to them). If you subscribe to Kuo directly, you probably get the information slightly before they are published on MacRumors. When trading stocks, that's valuable.

Any reasonable and sound minded individual would _not_ trade stocks based On an analyst prediction. Yes, Kuo has a track record that has been accurate over the years and is well known, but that’s a serious gambling for someone to trade stock just based off something he said they could be months out for a prediction of something that has the variable of uncertainty . Kuo has been wrong on many occasions or ‘off’ with his timelines before, and I certainly wouldn’t gamble my stock on what one person says (And I also imagine, any seasoned stock/shareholder would agree). I would rather gauge it based on fluctuation and overall value over an insider analyst, that he himself cannot guarantee. It’s simple logic.

Maybe we'll finally see an Apple laptop with 3820x2160? A true 4k in a lapper?
Somehow I think that if Apple was to go UHD on a laptop they’ll go 5K to match the use cases of the iMac and iMac Pro.
What would a 5K screen in 16 or 16.5 inch look like from a DPI viewpoint?

I don’t see it happening, a 4k or 5K in w laptop would drain so much battery. Maybe they will go with the Liquid Retina display like they have done with the iPad Pro and iPhones. Shrinking the bezels makes sense, they even did it on the new MacBook Air.

Re: 6k - I wondered if it’ll be called Apple Screen that sell both as a monitor and tv for upcoming March event? Just saying...

I also have a little bit of everything but iPad and SE are my 99% of the time.

I have Samsung Galaxy 5 because I wanted a stylus but honestly use it once in a full moon, whereas I can no longer imagine digital life withou Apple Pencil

Am I the only person who finds the 100 meter deep wrist area/touchpad on modern laptops unusable?

I haven't used anything newer than a 2013 MacBook pro, but just from looking at the picture if you have to do a lot of typing it probably gets uncomfortable quickly.

Maybe a lot of people use the trackpad. I usually don't, as I get a mouse and only use the trackpad if I only have one or two things to do and don't want to dig everything out of my traveling case. If I'm at home, the mouse is already there and available.
