I doubt they can fit 16.5” in the current 15.4” frame, plus the rumour says a new case design.

It needs the following:
  1. A 99 W.H battery again! The 15” should get at least 80-85 W.H;
  2. An SDXC card slot supporting UHS II;
  3. Return of optical audio out in the 3.5 mm audio port;
  4. A new tougher Al alloy for the case. It dents too easily; and maybe...
  5. Reconsider the position of the audio jack. I’m not sure if I like the top right placement or not.

You forgot:

6. Improved keyboard (no butterfly mechanism, please!)
7. Improved temperature management (partly improved by taking away this membrane...)
8. Improved battery working time (maybe included in your item 1., depending on game-equipment like Touch Bar, display technology and ventilator activity)
9. All levels without Touch Bar
10. Original MagSafe (elder slim version)

1. till 10.: Just dreams :rolleyes:,
because I fear, Apple teams aren't that clever (enough) anymore :apple: :( and Jony IVE is still in work :confused:

Why would any firm pay Kuo when they can get his information for free on MacRumors? Kuo probably works for Apple.
Maybe, if you pay for the full report, you get to see some sort of evidence backing up the claims, so you can know which ones are worth thinking about? (No, I don’t have any evidence to back up that claim, but if it turns out to be true I’ll be sure to remind y’all, otherwise forget I said it... :) )

This is a very tricky situation for people on 2 year contracts and are looking for usb c iPhone, upgrade this year and be stuck with lightning or wait till next year and apple might stick with lightning.

It’s called ‘Vote with your wallet’, if you don’t like the expectation that Apple releases something with XYZ amount of hours that it’s rated for battery life or that it degrades over the course of time with usage, then _don’t buy it_. That’s the only way you will put ‘pressure’ on a company like Apple. Otherwise, I would say the vast majority are completely satisfied with the AirPods battery life experience, including myself.

Well yes, I do. I didn't buy any. My point is more to rase awareness that people should vote with their wallet by stating that it is not acceptable to think that AirPods are disposable equipment, that doesn't need any sort of half-life.
It's the reason I don't understand how people think it is necessary to replace their iPhone every year.

Bummer... this increase in the MBP size (which will be at least 16.5, because the current "15" is actually 15.6, so it's 16 already) seems to suggest a Macbook with a 15'' display is coming, which is just what I wanted to buy... finally bought a 15'' MBP because there was no light MB of that size. Now, if Apple releases a 15''MB, I'll consider selling my MBP, because weight is very important to me.

Pure curiosity here, but why long for a small phone?

These questions always come off like asking 'why does anyone like brunettes?' Because people like different things than you. Your experience with the world is not the default one for all humans. You might as well be asking why do people like "blue".

Why do I want a smaller phone? Because I don't wanna carry around a dinner plate in my pocket. I wear jeans, I don't want to also have a fanny pack just to hold a phone while I'm on my motorcycle. I don't like having some giant 'tech bling' smacking against me and dragging down my shorts while I'm riding my bicycle. When I go to a bistro for lunch I don't want my phone to take up half the table if I sit it down. I do things where a large phone is annoying. I don't need or want a large phone since 'the phone' is not a lifestyle for me. I just want the tech to 'do it's thing' and then disappear into the background of my life.

The 17" was a powerhouse and stable workhorse in it's day and when it got cut and we saw the top size go down to 15", that was a bad day. Ming speculates and everyone falls over themselves to the positive or whatever. But, if a 16" did eventuate, that would be a great thing.
In the UK, 17" MacBook Pro was for sale as "refurbished" for over a year until all the unsold inventory had gone. So it seems it was the machine that everyone wanted, but nobody bought. The 16.5 inch as pictured seems to just have less bezels than the current 15", so if we get 16" screen with no additional size, that's fine.

These phones sound great, but I've gotta admit, when I hear "frosted glass," I get flashbacks of Vista's Aero theme.

I'm—I'm sure Apple can pull it off though… :oops:

Fwiw, Vista had a lot of problems, but that aero theme was not one of them. I thought it looks pretty nice for the time.

14 Inch Macbook with 2 USB C Ports that connect to a USB C iPhone and I'm sold.
Yes! Retina Macbook form factor, 14" retina screen, 2x TB3 USB-C ports, 7W CPU, TouchID, under 2.5lbs. I would pay full price Apple tax for that.

I beg to differ. The minimum requirements to get Vista to run were raised significantly compared to XP's. When Vista was still in development as Longhorn, the goal was to produce a successor to XP that could run on the same hardware, and that goal was given up in part due to the requirements of Vista's GUI.

It's also worth noting that the default theme used by most consumer-level Vista machines was a less-graphics-instensive variation similar to Aero but with a different name. Though, neither were particularly manageable by computers of the time.

Yeah… me too, actually. :oops: I was more joking about having flashbacks to the combined memory of Aero/Vista.

Like Mac Pro. People gag Apple for all fancy new stuff but knowing Apple that's going to cost a fortune, most of them would back-off!! Apple investing it's time, money and focus would stand to lose on such exorbitantly priced consumer products, even for Pros. Actually, Pros are the most prudent and well informed buyers knowing exactly what is needed and with efficiently they can get the job done instead of just showing off like hobbyists.....any out of the world pricing might put off the most

I love my 15 inch, but hated my 12 inch. 14 is the middle!

I'm thinking the new 17 in. MBP and Mac Pro are going to be geared toward gamers.

That's right. I said "gamers"

WWDC 2019 here we come.

You kinda need games for that. Of all my steam library, only 4 titles are available on Mac. And Metal is notoriously non-optimised for gaming use.
[doublepost=1550603735][/doublepost]For this MacBook Pro update it would have made sense to go all-in with USB-C/TB3 ports. I feel the Touch Bar MBP was a lost generation that was nothing but a long, painful, expensive beta test into a new standard that's yet to fully mature. It didn't improve anything, and we had to spend a lot of money and effort to simply make them connect to things they should be able to support natively.

I truly hope Jony Ive is kept out of this. We don't need another MacBook "Pro" with nerfed I/O, thermals, emoji bar gimmicks and gutter-fly keyboards just so they look nice on photoshoots.

I'm going to hazard a guess the 16" will be in the same form factor as the current 15.4" model, just with slimmer bezels to allow more display area (ala the iPad Pro 10.5 to 11).

That would be a smart move if they can squeeze it in. Hopefully they can do the same with the 13" > 14". I want to go to a smaller form factor without the Touch Bar (it was ruined for me when they changed it to two buttons to send email).

My 17" is getting a bit too old (read: Apple killed it by not allowing users upgrading to Mojave.)

I'll bet this 16" is going to cost 5000,- plus 3/400,- on adapters, hubs etc) while I payed 2500,- for my 17" in 2011.

My main concern is reliability and longevity. If Apple can deliver in those 2 areas I am interested in a new MBP. If not I might have to go back using Windows machines. Also if the pricing is just to far away from a great Windows machine like a Lenovo P52.

How can you determine longevity now other than a comparison of past and current products? Until of proof several years down the road I would say Apple computers have great longevity.
