That's what I'd like to know. If this is just a minor update, why bother with it at all? The main point must be the scissor keyboard.

You are getting a little extra screen real estate without enlarging the screen itself.

That's why I kept saying this is not a major redesign. It seems like they are using the same chassis and screen size, just shrinking the border bezels to provide more real-estate.

And, yes, it should have upgraded components over the 2018 15" MBP. New keyboard? We will have to wait and see.

Rumors suggest the 16-inch MacBook Pro will feature slimmer bezels around the display, a more reliable scissor switch keyboard, a standalone Touch ID sensor, and possibly a much-requested physical Esc key. Pricing is unknown, but would likely be higher than the $2,799 high-end 15-inch MacBook Pro.

If true, I'm curious to see what CPU/GPU they go with. The other stuff is very incremental and more on the line of problem fixes. Will be disappointing if they jack the price up and still go with a mid level GPU and similar CPU.

Apple has their own trade-in program for all their devices (or at least most)

However, you will get more money by selling to sites like SELLYOURMAC and others that you can Google.

Anything is possible, but all Apple is doing is offering a new screen size option in the same chassis. There is no major revision here.
That's not at all clear yet. Yeah, it's probably not triangular, or cylindrical - the icon-ish image pulled out of the betas suggests it'll be a standard laptop form factor, but beyond that we don't really know much of anything - we have rumors. Maybe it'll just be a new screen size, as you suggest. It's also possible that there are substantial changes. We'll likely know more in a few days.

I just think it's a weird time and way to release a new screen size and nothing else. What they need to address is the keyboard. I don't know of any great call for an extra inch of screen space.

It’s good to keep in mind that eGPU options work great with Thunderbolt 3 Macs. I picked up a Razer Core X for $200, then a used Vega 56 for $200. It works incredibly well for Windows gaming and for Mac pro applications, I hook it up to my 27” 4K display. I rarely need full GPU power on the go, and a Vega 20 option would have been more expensive and far less powerful than my eGPU - not to mention non-upgradable.

That is what i am going to do, but maybe the new Macbook Pro will have Navi graphics chips, we will have to see. :)

Don't forget about WIFI 6, and maybe better thermals for the hardware with a new case.

Gosh, what's the point of making 16 inch if it's too similar to 15 inch?

People have been complaining for years about the thickness of the bezels compared to certain PC laptops so Apple seems to finally be taking their criticism to heart. :p

The rumors have been pretty consistent that Apple will return to the scissor-switch mechanisms for the keyboard.

the Navi gpu [5500m most likely] is similar to a 1650 so nothing to get excited about.
OK but still need that egpu for gaming.

People also forget a lot of PC's are made of plastic so they can put the WIFI antennas in more places in the case body. if you want 2x2 or 4x4 you are going to need more spots for antenna locations, like along the edge of the screen because the mac is made of metal not good for radio, that is why it has a bezel and also for a webcam. I care more about better WIFI then a no bezel screen.

What makes you think they're only changing the screen size, and not fixing the keyboard.

I think they are changing the keyboard. I was just responding to some speculation that the keyboard might still be a butterfly keyboard of some sort. I'm arguing that this release makes no sense without a new keyboard design.

If they don't offer a RAM ceiling of at least 32 GB when doing a BTO, then I couldn't care less about this machine. 16 gigs in their biggest and most expensive "Pro" notebook is a bloody joke.

Remember everyone saying that sales for the iPhone 11 is going to be very low a couple of months ago and now Apple had record sales and is increasing production of the iPhone 11 :)

Well of course the sales will be low, after all there's nothing new in the iPhone 11. Or at least that's what I learned from this forum in early September.

Wait for Apple doing a complete redesign in 2020 and the 16" this year being some kind of transitional model.

My serious hope (that might be hinted at by the 10% increase in charging brick wattage) is to see ProMotion. It's already in the iPad PRO, it's rumored to reach the successor of the iPhone 11 PRO, so put it into the most pro of the MacBook PRO's and it could be considered a pro feature, which I'd say it actually is. I've thought about it, and I have no clue where that extra power would be going besides a more robust display controller to handle twice as many frames. (The rumored 5500m GPU pulls the same amount of power as the Vega 20 so it likely isn't that, and the fact that the brick isn't just 100w makes me think it isn't just for generally faster charging.)
