Personally I will wait for the reviews and then I will decide if I will replace my MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) laptop. It holds on. pretty well after 6 years. I am sure it will hold on for another year without any hiccups.
if i wasnt editing photos from a 61mp camera i'd wait too.. but its time. Apple does have a good no questions asked return policy for 30 days. we'll see if my gamble pays off.

And do you think 32gb RAM are enough?
which specs did you ordered

Greetings
32 is plenty.

i got 5ghz processor, 32gb ram,upgraded video card, 2tb ssd + applecare
i budget/plan for it to last 4 yrs, if it lasts longer awesome.

Total fan-serve. Yet, there's still something for some people to whine about. Classic Apple product launch.

Yes and nobody better than Phil the LAST of the ol' guard to deliver in a video about it! Makes me remember the 2012 pre-release announcement how wow we all felt then.

Wow, this is amazing. I don't even know what to do with myself right now.

Psst ... pray for a 14" MBP with dedicated video card and same heat-sync and cooling improvements ;)

Yeah I'm VERY shocked! I honestly thought this was to replace the 15" but after mid 2020.

Apple is on a CRAZY-One's mad success run this year:
AppleTV+ for everyone
Mac Mini major update !!
Mac Pro - delivering ultra greatness.
now MBP 16 !! :O 'can't innovate anymore my ass' ;)

By the way, I just saw in iJustine's unboxing that the new 16 inch model is NOT the same size as the previous 15 inch model. That's odd, i thought it was a bigger screen in the same package!

I'm sure Apple is thinking about YOU the users' Longevity of use. I've yet to see a MBP lightly dropped with a dinged screen edge and the screen being cracked (of course) yet NOT working flawlessly.

Borders I love for good reason .... limitations in hardware I don't!

The number of years it took Apple to get rid of the horrendous butterfly keyboard is an indication of how slow the post-Jobs Apple takes to listen to its users.

For me, I would do anything to keep my present MacBook Pro and couple of Airs going, solely to avoid that butterfly keyboard.

Now, this new 16" is probably going to be my next purchase.

When will Apple listen to those minority of people that seriously need an anti-glare screen? i.e. one with zero reflection with in a bright, sunlit environment.

Lol. Is it your theory that Jobs-era Apple listened to its customers?

is there some sort of alt-history timeline where we are rocking flash on iPads, have touchscreen macs with removable ram and disk, FireWire ports, and neat mid-tower macs?

Shut up and take my money. When it comes to other countries (South Korea)? Any information?

You are over-complicating this. Its ALWAYS cheaper in America than everywhere else. There. That's it. I don't think Austrlaia is so bad i think Brazil gets hit really bad something like 40% tax or something crazy
Not really true. Quite often happens that in Japan is a bit cheaper.
16Inch i9 base model is 288,800yen + 10% tax. That is $2,656.96 + 10% USD. But its often possible that it will be even more cheaper if buy using credit card etc. And available to order today as well
US equivalent model price is $2,799.00 + ~10% tax.

Having the very same mid-2012 MacBook Pro Retina, of which they said for many years it is the best laptop ever made.
BTW, mine is 7 years ;-).

(2019 - 2012 = 7).

But how tempting this 16" is!
Everything seems to be in the right place, issues solved & fixed, listened to the wishes, etc.
The only bad thing about Apple's laptops is they are so damn good: my 2012 MBP still works like a charm, so I guess I can wait for the 2nd version.

I just saw that it's got a 96W power supply, dang that's getting quite beefy. I wonder how much extra weight the power supply is going to add. Is Apple ever going to start using GaN tech to get the size and weight of their power supplies down?

A moment of silence for the drop in resale value of all butterfly mechanism Macbooks.
Yep, good luck in selling one of these for any decent price once the keyboard warranty has gone.

Yep, my 2015 15" is still working sweet. When it finally dies, or when I finally need more than 16GB RAM, I suppose I'll see if Apple's RAM/SSD prices have come down to something near sane, or I'll buy a second hand 2019+ 16".

Is that with VAT included? Where I am in the US the $2799 model plus local taxes is $3043. $3900 is quite the markup for Sweden. Is it often like that?
First of all, the $2799 model is not $3900 in Sweden.

It’s 35000 SEK which is about $3600.

Secondly, that includes 25% (!) of value added tax.

The tax free price is $2880.

The markup is less than $100.

Wut?

MacBook Pro's (or is that MacBook's Pro? Gruber would know) have been one of Apple's most popular if not the most popular Mac lines for many years.
[automerge]1573664734[/automerge]

Macbook Pro 15 inch starting at $2400+ has never been the most popular Mac. The vast majority of macs in the wild are Airs, 13 inch Pros and Minis, that is, the cheapest mac models Apple has in its line. In fact, it is the Air that really pushed Mac expansion when it was revealed more than 10 years ago. Apple should focus more on high quality affordable notebooks, rather than on high end machines such as the Mac Pro, iMac Pro and the these new 16 inch Macbook Pro. The vast majority of the users wont pay more than 1500$ for a notebook, so any new mac above this price point is a nitch product, especially outside the US.

The most Expensive model is €7139 ($7856). For a notebook.

And you know there will be people who buy this max-spec Macbook Pro.

And you know there will be somebody on this planet who will one day accidentally drop it 😩

If you go back to the 1990s, then $7000 was not that unusual for top spec laptops. Apple did it, IBM surpassed it and niche non-Intel producers like Tadpole charged a small fortune for theirs. People coughed up because that is what technology cost then and $7k 20+ years ago was a worth a lot more than it is now. Apple's prices look immense now only because the cost of consumer laptops has plummeted since but none of those is offering 8TB of NVMe storage or 64GB of RAM.

Too expensive relative to what? I've only got an iPhone and a gaming desktop, while I'm here sitting and thinking about if I should buy the 16 inch to replace my desktop.
Relative to virtually any other notebook brand. With a budget of $2600+ you can literally buy a top of the line Dell XPS (the top choice in the recent years). Actually, you can buy two of these.

90% of the notebook market globally is focused in the 600-800$ price range. So, yes this new MacBook Pro 16 inch is an expensive nitch product within the budget of the 0,1% of the people that are currently looking for a new notebook. Apple would hardly earn any meaningful profit or gain any additional market share.

The vast majority of macs in the wild are Airs, 13 inch Pros and Minis,

2 1/2 years ago, the laptop/desktop split for Apple was 80/20, and their customer status showed "pros" (by use of "pro" apps) overwhelmingly used laptops (or notebooks, in their terms).

There is no breakdown available that I can find of what models specifically are most popular, but I'm going to call ******** right away on the mini being in the "vast majority" category. It's a great machine but it's not beating out MBPs or MBAs for popularity.

Apple should focus more on high quality affordable notebooks, rather than on high end machines such as the Mac Pro, iMac Pro and the these new 16 inch Macbook Pro.
They've arguably been doing that for the last.. 5 years?

The response from actual professional users, who are not fickle about which laptop is $10 cheaper, was deafening.

So, no. Apple have focussed plenty on what the armchair facebook browsers all want to 'look trendy'. It's past time for actual pro-level hardware options.

Disappointed....Not good enough to get me to come back. WHERE IS AN OLED TOUCHSCREEN OPTION?!!! I use this every day with my WIN 10 laptop.

Never have I understood the need for a touchscreen on a laptop. Ergonomically it sounds like such a bad idea and I don't want to have to clean my screen all the time.

CPU upgrade not worth it, 32GB is enough, 8GB GPU... big question is 1TB or 2TB... hmm... decisions, decisions.

Wish for 2020 16" MBP refresh:

Wifi 6
Thinner bezels
Optional TouchBar
Return of MagSafe
Nvidia 1660
Return of the glowing Apple logo
Smaller powerbrick

Well you can buy 5TB of external thunderbolt storage easily for that money you save when you choose 1TB. Probably for the best anyway.

My bad, the XPS 13 have 10th-gen, but I am guessing they are low-powered. The XPS 15 still go with 9th gen

I wishInt
I wish apple would do away the bezel instead. I don't understand the reason for sticking with wireless AC and not the AX like the iPhone 11 pro?
i think it’s because Intel doesn’t offer a chipset for this class of course which supports it yet. This class if cpu is still their 9th Generation

Why? Do you require more than 40Gbps for ethernet?

Because high-end camera's often don't use any form of SD, or when they do it's in addition to a faster alternative format.

Because Thunderbolt is a point-to-point single computer connection, i.e. you can only connect a single computer to the storage in most cases. 10GigE enables multiple users to be connected to the same storage.

Define high-end camera. If you are talking large or medium format digital cameras, these are really, really in the minority. Most photographers don't use kit right at the high-end, simply because they don't need it but also because the price is out of reach for many. Anyone shooting on a low-end DSLR or any of the Sony mirrorless systems will be using SD, and there are a LOT of these photographers, especially with low-end DSLRs. Mid to high-end Canon/Nikon use CF or CF/SD combo. However the majority is SD because most photographers use what they can afford to get the job done and bodies using SD are often cheaper but yet good enough. I'd say it's also shifting in favour of SD over other formats with the rise of mirrorless cameras and their smaller bodies.

It’s been SEVEN YEARS...onboard GbE is not coming back to the MacBook Pro, ever. Buy the adapter and move on. Apple made concessions on the 16” MBP and they are done making concessions.

I did, I bought a thinkpad! There should be no concessions on a 16" laptop as it is built as a work tool and is in direct competition with other mobile workstations which do have plenty of ports. Even when comparing with thin laptops like the XPS 15, even that has more than TB3 ports. Okay it has no ethernet, but it has USB A and an SD card slot along with USB-C/TB. Basically it has more than 1 type of port and little need for dongles.

Spending £3k+ on a laptop and then having to buy adaptors is not acceptable. Adaptors are NOT the answer we must stop allowing manufacturers to get away with this nonsense!

"Creativity is intense, but casual....." and "For me, creativity is 'how far did you go to stretch yourself.'"

What the Hell are these people even talking about?

How ***** pretentious can you be?

Can you take yourselves a little more seriously?

Wow.

So, does anyone still want to argue with me that the butterfly keyboard was flawed? Because you had no problems doing so the other 4(?) times Apple tweaked it. Apple seems to agree with me now that they ditched the thing completely.
I mean if you can't see the logic behind apple NEEDING to change the keyboard EVEN if the 2018/2019 completely fixed them than its beyond me.
Even if the 2019's are 100% fixed the name butterfly scares people. Apple really had no choice here...
They couldn't just sell the butterfly even fixed and say it was because of the tainted name of it.
It also gets more sales for apple so its win win(minus the repair program of course).
Also, Nobody knows this new keyboard or machine will be better than a 2019 machine and are risking that based on what? Its better to not even buy this year to see how well it does but hey people like to jump on sorta new products...

They ditched it completely?? lol Yeah, I'll believe that once it migrates down range to the MBA and other, cheaper machines. Until then, I'd save the gloating.

(From Phil Schiller's interview with CNET)

"Can we expect to see the new Magic Keyboard in the rest of the MacBook lineup? Rumors suggest yes, but Schiller isn’t ready to make that announcement. “I can’t say today. We are continuing both keyboard designs,” he said in the interview."

I was HOPING the display was being upgraded to HDR or faster response speed as the reason for moving to a 16" screen.
I have to wonder if that's something which is being saved for what would've been a 2020 redesign (now probably pushed back to 2021/2 at least) - different design language, XDR, ProMotion mini LED display, custom ARM CPU etc?
