For the love of Steve stop complaining.

They keep base specs low to keep the entry price down.

They were never going to get rid of Touch Bar.

It has better heat management.

They fixed the keyboard.

They gave you a physical escape key.

Entry price is reasonable.

This is what you asked for.

Now stop not picking on the singular aspect that you disagree with and be happy.
AGREE!
So, everyone, BY IT AND USE IT!
Stop complaining!
Down the road it will get better!
Apple was in the hurry to bring this machine to US to avoid the import duties, after all!!!

It feels like Christmas. I'm writing this on a 13inch 2015 MacBook Pro I picked up used this summer for $650 bucks. I did so because I needed a keyboard I could trust. This new keyboard (I can't wait till Best Buy gets a display model to try out) sounds like exactly what it should be, a tweaked upgrade to the magic keyboard, apples best keyboard they've ever made. I won't get this one because my laptop still will do what I need it to do for another year or two, but if this means that 14 inch's with this keyboard are on the horizon, that's just fantastic. That's the computer I've been waiting for, and by the time I feel like I'm ready to upgrade, chances are they'll be on revision 2 by that point :)

Apple had been charging $1,000/TB for flash upgrades when Flash prices were as low as $150/TB. (Or to be fair, $300/TB for high speed NVME). I've been waiting forever for them to finally pass on some of the savings to customers. Regarding speed, there is nothing I do where I would personally notice the difference. I still get 2GB/second sustained from my 2015 MBP with the slower OWC upgrade. Only people who work with RAW 4K need be concerned here - and I would bet many of them use external RAIDs for the capacity.

BTW, I could be wrong, but I would be utterly dismayed to see Apple use QLC NAND - it doesn't save much money and it has significantly slower transfer rates. If there's one thing Apple has stressed thus far, it's high speed at any price.
The price for 8TB option is way lower than 8TB for Dell Mobile Workstations. Dell charges $1266 for each additional 2TB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD Class 40 (one can install four of those). I wonder why Apple's SSDs are so much cheaper. It would be nice if Apple actually specified what type of SSDs they are selling. Capacity is just one factor but there are quite a few other important specs the buyers need to know.

Where is the 4K option
Who needs 4K with 720p camera?

I know it but for lifetime don’t use an electronic component close to its max spec.

That is true, although it depends how conservative they were with this specification, for all we know it could take 200W but either it's stable, overheats after a few hours or simply a risk. However, it could also only take 110W and then have the aforementioned issues. We won't know unless someone tests it by attempting to bypass the hard limit (if firmware-based).

That’s also correct, I agree.

Great fixes for blunders that Apple never should have made in the first place. Good and all—especially at the price point given the base 512GB SSD—but Apple still missed:
  • Implementing an updated "MagSafe" style USB-C quick release system (at least for the charging cable).
  • Built-in SD Reader
  • At least a 1080p webcam (720p? Seriously?)
  • A lit Apple logo (sometimes it's just the "little things", you know?)
Yes, high standards I realize—standards of which we used to judge Apple by.

Well, probably the biggest initial complaint about MBP 2016 was about PORTS, not keyboard. It took some time to realize how bad the keyboard was. OK, they've kinda reversed keyboard mess (barring Touch Bar, of course), but why does everybody just buy it so easily that there are still NO PORTS?
Market situation haven't changed a bit! There is still no global transition to USB-C, flash drives still USB-A, monitors still HDMI, SD cards still exist.
It's a pity to see such a cheap pandering works to the extent that people are GRATEFUL for fixing just a single the most outrageous issue of MBP 2016.

Why would you need the current resolution then with the 720p camera why not just stick with 768P screens?

I’m sorry but if they keyboards were this problematic they get fixed, period, regardless of 5 year plans or whatever. Gruber says the buck stops with Ive here. Really? Phil Schiller got up on stage in October 2016 to announce the new MBP with butterfly keyboard. Are we to believe Schiller was on stage announcing a product he didn’t believe in or knew to be faulty? If so what does that say about Schiller?

View attachment 876844

the quality issues came out over time. Not everyone’s keyboard failed. But an unacceptable percentage did. This for an issue that rarely occurs. The Issue of quality keyboards was solved in the 80s! I can buy the fact that upper management wouldn’t be set up or used to having this type of problem and just didn’t know how to deal with it properly.

remember that Apple is probably buying parts way into the future to keep costs down.

Schiller is their marketing guy. That is his job.

That he is doing is job as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing.
His job is to try and sell you on buying products, regardless of how good or bad they are.

I'd frankly be concerned for anyone that thinks he wasn't going to do that.
He’s way more than just a marketing guy (even Gruber would confirm that). I guarantee you his team has more say on product features, configuration/storage options and pricing than any other team in the company. Even still the fact that he’s on stage announcing these products...if he’s on stage announcing something he doesn’t believe in or knows to be not reliable that doesn’t say much about his integrity does it? Remember he was the guy on stage who said “can’t innovate my a**” when announcing the trash can Mac Pro.

Looking at eBay right now and almost all 15-in 2019 MBP's have had their prices reduced.

Some of the Buy It Now prices for the i9 512GB at $2000 still haven't been sold. A month ago when I was looking at these same machines I didn't see any that actually sold below $2300.

It's a good buyer's marked for slightly used 2019 MBPs.

Had an order on a 15" from 6th of November 2019 (i9 2.4 GHZ, 32 GB, 2TB) and just cancelled it to place an order on a 16" i9 2.3GHz with 32GB RAM and a 2TB SSD hard drive. I'm so happy and believe this MacbookPro will be a f.....g weapon and by the way way more cheaper. I'm not into video editing or photo stuff I'm only interested in audio applications. Thank you Apple for releasing the new MBP in just the right time. Merry X Mas :)

bummer to still see the touch bar, also sad a sd slot and magsafe haven't made a reappearance. Not sure what to do since I told myself I wouldn't buy another laptop with the touch bar still there... :/

I love everything about today’s announcement. But the more fair pricing in upgrades is the high point. I think the increase to 16” from 15.4” is a minor spec bum. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining. It’s that everything else announced is more exciting than 0.6” inch increase in screen. Better sound, better microphones, BETTER KEYBOARD (!!!), better thermals, better battery!

I hope the reviewed pricing happens for the whole Mac line at some point.

What A Surprise!

I can't believe it really replaces the 15" for the same price. T-H-A-N-K Y-O-U Apple!

Amazing! I will probably wait for updated 13" ( 14" ) and then decide which to buy.

Regarding the rumor that the Macbook Pro 13" will be upgraded to 14", is that from a reliable source? I've been buying the Pro 15" since 2007 but I don't need all of the bells and whistles with this $2399 machine, when my mid-2015 dies it would be nice to have a cheaper option at 14.

I have two USB-C to USB-A dongles just in case I need to connect to a captive cable device like an older keyboard. I purchased a smattering of cables to take care of the rest, no big deal. I have a flash drive that is both USB-A and USB-C (Sandisk) and I use USB-C to DisplayPort, but USB-C to HDMI is just as easily obtained. I bought a card reader (Transcend RDC-8) that works great for what little I use it.

In late 2016, ports were an issue. In late 2019, the market has caught up and is moving past USB-A. You can too or you can just stand there and get run over, but USB-A's reign is done and we're not going back. Join in or get the hell out of the way.

And you are certainly free to reside in 2015 for as long as you want, the rest of us are moving on. The Touch Bar is helpful to me and infinitely customizable with Better Touch Tool.

No rumors yet, but I think it's a logical step: thinner bezels, size between the first gen 13" retina and the current 13". Non-touchbar version would be nice, but it won't happen in 2020 IMO.

If they bring back the 12" MB, it would make a nice product line with 14" and 16".

So no 10th gen intel cpu? Seriously?

At least they did 16GB and 512GB SSD from the start. Props there!

The 1TB upgrade and 32GB upgrade should each be $100 though, not $200. What an Apple Tax!!!

Decent graphics and upgrade path there. Nice!

No 0% with Apple Card for 24 months is a joke. C’mon!!!!
