Comparing icons for latest 13" retina with Touch ID and without (it's called usbc) looks like you're right – touch bar interrupts for power and escape keys! It's kind'a sad there's no update to the look.I don't think these are place holder images. If you go to the link in the article to the source website, there is a side-by-side comparison of the 2. You can clearly see there is a difference between models in their bezels.
Further, if you look at the keyboards... it looks like the 16 inch one doesn't have a Touch Bar. Look at the side by side image on the top row of keys where it is flat and smooth in the 15 inch, and the 16 inch looks like keys. Or at least, it looks like there is an escape key separate from the Touch Bar as well as a separate Power Button.View attachment 870559
If you can't see it, here it is zoomed up. Thanks MS Paint. View attachment 870579
I just checked and those files are on path: /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Library/MacHardwareTypes-2019f.bundle/Contents/Resources/
There you can find 2 images:
com.apple.macbookpro-16-silver.icns
com.apple.macbookpro-16-space-grey.icns
As these are probably placeholder images for the new machine, those images look like the actual 15" MacBook Pro.
I agree, that would be great for larger fans if you have faster processors like a Xeon or a AMD GPU upgradeHere's an animation comparing the new 16" with current 15":

Looks like the whole chassis is larger, may be more thermal headroom

Fits with the 96W charger leak as well, I would imagine probably for new graphics as that's the weakest link in the current machines? Here's an animation comparing the new 16" with current 15":

Yep, looks like a conservative refresh, so hopefully they've just gone through addressing all the issues the current generation has. If that's the case this will be a really solid machine!
I'm not entirely sure, I was pretty set on moving away from Macs as I was convinced this was going to come with a significant price bump, it still might I suppose, but I will certainly keep my powder dry a bit longer and wait to see.

I think if you are a graphics or video professional you are not working on a 15in or 16in screen you are working on a much larger monitor. Hint!!!! like the new Apple Display coming soonTake the 2012 retina MacBook Pro, slap a new chipset, graphics card, 16 inch display and USB C and it would sell like hot cakes. The retina MacBook Pro is probably the peak MacBook in my opinion.

Thank god they didn’t make the trackpad EVEN larger still..
It’s absolutely PLENTY big as it is on the 15” machines right now. (I’d prefer even narrower personally)
You’d be surprised..
Plus - “Pro’s” often have to get a lot of work done on the go
