Interesting......

At least on my test Mac running 10.15.1 beta 2 (build 19B77a), these new MacBook Pro icons are in a bundle all by themselves.

The rest are in the CoreTypes.bundle

It does look as though there is a different type of "Touch Bar" in this model. I zoomed in on the icon as much as possible before substantial pixelation. Maybe there is a separate escape key now? I don't know, what do you guys think?

I don't think these are place holder images. If you go to the link in the article to the source website, there is a side-by-side comparison of the 2. You can clearly see there is a difference between models in their bezels.

Further, if you look at the keyboards... it looks like the 16 inch one doesn't have a Touch Bar. Look at the side by side image on the top row of keys where it is flat and smooth in the 15 inch, and the 16 inch looks like keys. Or at least, it looks like there is an escape key separate from the Touch Bar as well as a separate Power Button.View attachment 870559

If you can't see it, here it is zoomed up. Thanks MS Paint. View attachment 870579
Comparing icons for latest 13" retina with Touch ID and without (it's called usbc) looks like you're right – touch bar interrupts for power and escape keys! It's kind'a sad there's no update to the look.

If the display has some XDR capability, I couldn’t care less how big the bezels are.

Ok this is my guess, Apple wants the Macbook Pro to be a real Macbook Pro to set along the side of the Mac Pro tower. They can finally create a truly Mac Pro mobile device with Xeon workstaton mobile processors. ECC memory, 12 and above cores and all the other things that would make it a real mobile professional workstation. And yes if it is $4000 it would be worth it. And i can hear it now $4000 for a Macbook Pro outrages!!!!!!! Not!!!! a true mobile Xeon workstation would be worth every penny like the new Mac Pro.

Xeon® E-2176M 12 cores and it only needs 80 watts of power and with all the technology of power saving and the new 95 watt power supply you could have a true Mobile workstation on your hands and it will be a lower cost than the iMac Pro, Mac Pro. And if the make the case wider and more powerful fans like the iMac Pro i think this would be a true killer mobile computer.

I just checked and those files are on path: /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Library/MacHardwareTypes-2019f.bundle/Contents/Resources/

There you can find 2 images:

com.apple.macbookpro-16-silver.icns
com.apple.macbookpro-16-space-grey.icns

As these are probably placeholder images for the new machine, those images look like the actual 15" MacBook Pro.

Actually in 2 places, see screenshot...

Would someone be able to post this image next to the existing 15” image... so we can have some context and get a better appreciation of how they might be different?

sigh..... I have been so disappointed with apple lately...design innovation, OS stability and also human rights stance... I am planning on an upgrade to my laptop next year.....
Apple, please make me want to stay as a Mac user.

Yep, looks like a conservative refresh, so hopefully they've just gone through addressing all the issues the current generation has. If that's the case this will be a really solid machine!

I'm not entirely sure, I was pretty set on moving away from Macs as I was convinced this was going to come with a significant price bump, it still might I suppose, but I will certainly keep my powder dry a bit longer and wait to see.

“Starting at $2999 with a 256 SSD - soldered on and non-user upgradeable”. :p

Take the 2012 retina MacBook Pro, slap a new chipset, graphics card, 16 inch display and USB C and it would sell like hot cakes. The retina MacBook Pro is probably the peak MacBook in my opinion.
I think if you are a graphics or video professional you are not working on a 15in or 16in screen you are working on a much larger monitor. Hint!!!! like the new Apple Display coming soon :)

Thank god they didn’t make the trackpad EVEN larger still..
It’s absolutely PLENTY big as it is on the 15” machines right now. (I’d prefer even narrower personally)

Same. I'd prefer it a little narrower. I still accidentally hit it sometimes when I have "tap to click" enabled (consequently I've kept it disabled for the majority of the time I've had my 2016 MBP).

You’d be surprised..
Plus - “Pro’s” often have to get a lot of work done on the go

I would agree, but most eyes get old over time and how much resolution do you need on a 16in display and when you get back to a office or home you connect your XDR display for finish processing the data. And if Apple created a stand along Xeon CPU box that could communicate over a faster Thunderbolt 3 or 4 the project could be completed in record time and be error free processing and memory. :)
