Given that 802.11ax will probably show up in the next release, and hopefully all the first gen issues will be ironed out, the next release of this should be a solid machine.

Missing Wi-Fi 6 (which would have been available from Intel) and still using a 720p Facetime camera is disappointing.
Also my longstanding criticism of lack of 120Hz and VRR.

While this adds quite a few good things, I agree. For the 720p camera, how thick is it compared to an iPhone 11's camera?

As for WiFi 6, I doubt I need the speeds, but wouldn't mind better coverage. Some places at home have bad coverage.

Cheapskate Apple still does not want to pay for state art wi-fi 802.11ax 2017 standard aka wi-fi 6, LPDDR4 RAM(2013) and face ID. Did not update the 13” MacBook Pro to 14” with slimmer bezel. LOL

I am stunned by how much Apple has nailed my wishlist for this new 16" MBP:
  1. Fast Navi-based GPU in the standard configuration - check.
  2. 512GB SSD in base configuration - check.
  3. Better thermals and bigger battery - check.
  4. Same price as previous base configuration (with benefit of larger, slightly higher res screen, better speakers, double the storage, faster RAM, much faster GPU) - check, check check!
The icing on the cake for me is they have more flexible and reasonable BTO options that were unavailable on the 15", such as being able to keep the base processor while upgrading the GPU for a reasonable $100, or $200 to upgrade the GPU and get to 8GB of GDDR6.

I was previously looking at a configuration of $3,050 (or maybe it was $3,150, I don't recall) to get the fastest GPU. I can now get an even faster GPU for $2500 (or $2600 if I splurge for 8GB RAM), which is a huge increase in value.

The webcam was high on my list of hoped-for improvements, and it is disappointing to see no improvements their, but the other improvements and the effective price decrease more than make up for it in my book.

Edit: And how could I forget a physical Esc key! Another "check" in my book.

Pretty decent update considering previous ones. Would have liked:

-120hz+ refresh rate
-More powerful GPU
-Better thermals (although re-designed they look insignficant, we'll see)
-Even thinner bezels
-No touch bar
-Better webcam
-Wifi 6
-FaceID

720p in 2019 is disgusting and totally unacceptable.

I don't know any laptop that has a fantastic webcam right now. Webcams just are crappy and are far behind selfie cameras in phones. Even the $4000 Razer Pro with 4K OLED touchscreen still has a 1 MP 720p webcam.

Webcam technology has not improved. The lid would need to be much thicker to accomodate a better webcam or a FaceID module. So keep dreaming. Webcam will likely not change for a long time to come.

Is the entire screen size increase coming from the smaller bezels or did they make the laptop slightly larger physically? I'm hoping they kept it the same size, because the 15" Macbook Pro is the perfect size already for me!

The arrow keys look horrible.
Yes!
I want full-size arrow keys, please. While I understand that it would affect the look of the keyboard on the MacBook Pro I think it is inconsistent that the size of the arrow keys are so different compared to even the arrow keys on Apple's own stand alone keyboards – which in turn aren't consistent between each other either when I think about it (full-size left and right arrows and small up and down arrows on the compact keyboard for example).

I don't personally care about the webcam, the only small 'miss' for me is not bringing back SD card slot, and that was always a very long shot... mind you, so was increasing the value of this machine compared to the one it replaces so drastically!

Pretty disappointing that this still has Touch ID. Touch ID is so unbelievably bad on the Mac. I've even tried turning it off and just using Apple Watch for what little that adds, and even when its off it still insists on Touch ID for Autofill. Unbelievable.
