Ha! Y'all said this'd be so expensive! Yet for the same specs, it's MUCH cheaper than the last model. :) Yeah - you can talk about what it DIDN'T add, but I'm freakin' thrilled they fixed the keyboard, improved the screen and GPU, and lowered the price. Heck - with a bit of a sale, this'll actually be as cheap of the Macbook Pros prior to 2016 - I could always pick up one of them for around $3K or a little more. This time I don't have to debate getting 32GB, and I might even be able to afford a 4TB hard drive for future proofing. The MBP is back!!!!!

And to think my wife just bought a 15" only 5 days ago from Best Buy. HA!

I'll wait to see how the reviews are. Apple

EDIT: Rep was confused about my return eligibility. I actually missed the window haha. Oh well, I'll hang on to this one for a few years and then upgrade.

Today's my last day to return the 15" I bought. I didn't want to wait for the 16" since the price was expected to be significantly higher. Is it worth the exchange or should I just hang on to the 15"?

Missing Wi-Fi 6 (which would have been available from Intel) and still using a 720p Facetime camera is disappointing.

That and still no 10th generation Intel processor with integrated support for TB-3 and WiFi-6 and still no Iris Plus. I realize that problem is more about Intel but also absent are Apple controlled technology like multi-face FaceID, a 1080p video camera and internal power that can actually last the 10 hours promised by Apple marketing material but that they have, in my experience, ever achieved.

I'll pass until what they have included demonstrates that Apple has solved their slipping reliability and build quality problems they include a 10th generation Intel processor, if the 11th generation processor doesn't manage to get released first.

Ah yes the FaceTime camera, I missed that in the specs. I agree it should really be 1080p, I use the FaceTime camera quite a bit for work and having family overseas.

My issue with AX is it's the future standard (you can already buy routers and devices today with it) and people tend to hold onto their MacBooks for longer than their iPhone. AX is a really impressive standard and once we get fully fleshed out and stable routers/firmware it will make a big difference - not so much in terms of speed but in dense WiFi environments.
- Improved beamforming especially with 8 antenna routers
- 1024 OFDMA
- 2.4GHz band finally seeing some love
- Actually working MU-MIMO
- Lots of little improvements with guard intervals, carrier avoidance, timing etc

802.11ax is a really solid update that will make real world WiFi much better. Couldn't care less about the speed increases which are maybe 30% at best (although the 2.4GHz should get a noticeable uplift).
Wifi6 is more than 30 percent improvement. I got over 100 percent increase in throughput when I switched to a Wifi6 router and installed the Intel Ax200. Even a Wifi6 router to a Wifi5 Client saw increased speeds (50%). It's strange that Apple put Wifi6 in the iPhone but not in the more expensive macintosh.

I wonder if RAM is soldered. I guess no, because the product pages reads:
Note: MacBook Pro memory is not user accessible. If you think you may need more memory in the future, consider upgrading at the time of purchase.
While the 13'' models has a different note:
Please note that the memory is built into the computer. If you think you’ll need additional memory, it’s important to upgrade at the time of purchase.

Let's wait for iFixit, maybe it will be possible to upgrade the RAM by opening the laptop, not easy but at least possible. Would be really nice, even for the SSD

Who knew a keyboard would be so difficult. Most people were okay with pre-2016 MBP keyboards.

I'm also not so sure Apple will unveil a 14" model. Not because they can't, but because they want to further differentiate the two different sizes.
There was already plenty to differentiate the two. Screen size, core count, graphics. The superseded Butterfly keyboard and larger bezels are only going to cause apprehension among 13" MacBook Pro buyers who may not be in the market for a 16" anyway (due to cost or preference for the smaller screen size).

The price was the most surprising part for me. I guess, Apple keeping the price down on the 16 is sort of admitting the last generation was priced a bit too high for the market to swallow.

You can see inside on Apple's website, everything is still soldered down I'm afraid.

Fun fact (source MKBHD) the battery is 100 watts, the max you can carry on a plane through TSA
I don't know how that fact is "fun."

Stupid saying.

Anyone worried about the inclusion of the T2 Security Chip?
Why? Are you worried it might cause problems if you remove the SSD?

From the "Tech Specs" page:
16GB of 2666MHz DDR4 onboard memory

Configurable to 32GB or 64GB of memory
Yes, it's soldered.

Shocked they kept the headphone jack!

...maybe even Apple understands that wireless headphones, with massive lag times, are totally useless for anything other than passive listening.

but I'm going to wait and see how the keyboard is. Quite a lot of people will jump on this, but I imagine a fair few, having been bitten by Apple's keyboards before, will give it a wide berth until the second revision.

Sounds like its very similar to the external "Magic Keyboard" which is OK (although I still prefer the original aluminium/original 2015 MBP keyboard which had even more travel, wasn't broken and should never have been "fixed").

720p in 2019 is disgusting and totally unacceptable.

So what? Its a webcam fixed in a laptop lid. Ergonomically, it is useless for anything other than video conferencing, and I don't want, or need, to see other people's nose hairs in 4k resolution. The main thing it is missing is a tiny version of those white Apple logo stickers to stick over it so Facebook can't spy on you (masking tape looks so messy).

It's the same cost and more value (i.e., the size of the SSD, new keyboard, larger screen).

I'd think returning your 15 inch would be a no-brainer.

I don't need the super specs on the laptop but I am at the end of the value for my 2016 macbook pro. I am getting $940 for it from Apple - that is crazy after all that time.

Anybody out there still defending the butterfly keyboard: you were wrong. Apology accepted.

(Been waiting a long time to type that, and it feels great.)
So people who have used the butterfly keyboards for months/years with 0 issues are supposed to apologize...to you? I think I'll pass on that.

My only experience with stuck keys was ironically with the magic keyboard w/ numeric pad.

Here are some other things to know about the new 16-inch MacBook Pro:In addition to a scissor mechanism keyboard with a physical Esc key, another much-requested feature that Apple has reintroduced is an inverse-T arrow key layout, last used on the 15-inch MacBook Pro in 2015.

I'm actually not a fan of the inverse T arrow key layout with half height left and right. Them being the four keys in the bottom right has always been enough for me to find them via touch, and I hit the left and right arrow much more frequently than up and down. I use both on a regular basis (a Magic Keyboard on a Mac mini and the built-in keyboard on an older MacBook), and prefer the full-height keys. I look for the split key using my middle finger, then use the left and right arrow keys with my index and ring respectively. Having my hand in this position once I start on the arrows often pays off.

It's not something I'm super excited over, though. I'll adapt.
