Praise the lord. I've brought my 12" MacBook in for repairs more than once. The keys break/die so quickly.

ill never understand crippling their high end machines with garbage components.. a 720p camera? old wifi? how much could this possibly save then and why do much cheaper iOS devices have better? and faceID is the only thing that makes sense in a laptop yet nothing...
They gotta save something for the next release.

Doesn't make sense that the 13-inch retains the wider bezels and now looks older in comparison. Why not launch a 14-inch along with the 16-inch is beyond me.
I'm guessing the Apple engineers took a longer time on this one given all the keyboard issues on the previous model. There simply wasn't enough time to get both the 16" version and the 13"/14" version engineered and released in time for the holiday shopping season.

While this adds quite a few good things, I agree. For the 720p camera, how thick is it compared to an iPhone 11's camera?

As for WiFi 6, I doubt I need the speeds, but wouldn't mind better coverage. Some places at home have bad coverage.

Ah yes the FaceTime camera, I missed that in the specs. I agree it should really be 1080p, I use the FaceTime camera quite a bit for work and having family overseas.

My issue with AX is it's the future standard (you can already buy routers and devices today with it) and people tend to hold onto their MacBooks for longer than their iPhone. AX is a really impressive standard and once we get fully fleshed out and stable routers/firmware it will make a big difference - not so much in terms of speed but in dense WiFi environments.
- Improved beamforming especially with 8 antenna routers
- 1024 OFDMA
- 2.4GHz band finally seeing some love
- Actually working MU-MIMO
- Lots of little improvements with guard intervals, carrier avoidance, timing etc

802.11ax is a really solid update that will make real world WiFi much better. Couldn't care less about the speed increases which are maybe 30% at best (although the 2.4GHz should get a noticeable uplift).

Looks great except missing Wi-Fi 6 puts it behind its competitors. Yes you don’t need it today, but Wi-Fi chip with it costs maybe $5 extra for Apple (no joke, look on amazon). Spending this much, it should last 5 years and Wi-Fi 6 will only get more common in 2020.

Great to have the correct arrows layout back! I blame Jony for all this nonsense with the butterfly keyboard and arrows layout, good riddance!

Cheapskate Apple still does not want to pay for state art wi-fi 802.11ax 2017 standard,LPDDR4 RAM(2013) and face ID. Did not update the 13” MacBook Pro to 14” with slimmer bezel. LOL

LPDDR4 is not supported by current Intel processors (only up to 16GB, IIRC). Using LPDDR4 RAM would mean removing the 32GB/64GB options since it's not feasible to design two different logic board models for DDR4/LPDDR4 variants. In fact, MacBook Pros used to ship with LPDDR3 RAM until they were forced to shift to regular DDR4 to satisfy the demand for more than 16GB. LPDDR4 has been used in Apple devices since the iPhone 6S (2015), so Intel is clearly the one to blame here.

WiFi 802.11ax should have been supported by Intel processors long ago, but won't appear until Comet Lake in summer 2020. It can be done using another external IC, but I guess Apple chose not to since it won't be needed anymore when the MacBook Pro gets upgraded to Comet Lake-H CPUs.

FaceID can't be integrated into the current display since the lid is extremely thin (several times thinner than the FaceID module in iPhones/iPads). It may eventually come in a few years, but definitely impossible to do with current technology. 1080p FaceTime camera would be nice, though.

They need something to sell people on next year is all I get from this.

A physical escape key? A scissor switch keyboard? An inverted T arrow key layout? Apple deserves a lot of praise for these innovations! What's next? A replaceable battery or RAM? 3 years of warranty as standard? The future possibilities are endless!

I remember when Apple's "innovations" were limited to stupid marketing gimmicks like doubling the screen resolution, a multi-touch trackpad, new chassis materials, and the mag-safe connector. That was so boring. But this! A physical escape key! Let me just sell my car and get one of these babies!

No seriously I'm going to have to buy this as I've been waiting for too long for a new Mac due to the cursed previous generation.

A large audience of Mac laptops are developers and sys admins, many of whom are die-hard keyboard junkies, using command-line interfaces to interact with the local system and remote systems (ie. servers, etc.) and the Esc key is absolutely essential! A `Pro` machine needs to properly support the Esc key.

The inverted-T arrow keys is an improvement over their misstep from the last layout.

I agree that losing the MagSafe connector was a step backwards, but we also have significant battery improvements from when it first came out, so I see it as a give-and-take situation.

I’ll buy the next rev of this in 2020. Prefer PCIe 4.0, Wi-fi 6 and LPDDR4. (Yes I’m a tech snob lol)
Nothing wrong with that man. I mean with the amount of money you're investing, you definitely want that longevity to come with this. It's why I'm so hesitant to replace my late 2013 mbp. I maxed it out at the time and that thing is still such a beast. Boot up time is crazy fast, Photoshop and Final Cut still fly. It's still the workhorse I need it to be.

Hopefully the 2020 model comes with the things you mentioned.

first I wanted to order as quick as possible.
The upgrade seems reasonable, but I probably wait for the hopefully coming 14 inch.
I got the 2015 15 inch and the size is not too big, but the limit for me. In iJustines video you can see the difference between the 15 and 16 inch and it's noticeable. Not huge, but still. A bit bigger, a bit heavier. So I'm gonna wait I guess

Who knew a keyboard would be so difficult. Most people were okay with pre-2016 MBP keyboards.

I'm also not so sure Apple will unveil a 14" model. Not because they can't, but because they want to further differentiate the two different sizes.

I'm surprised that the AppleCare+ cost is the same as the 15".

The cost is based such that Apple doesn't lose money (as per insurance) and the cost of the AppleCare+ on the 15" reflected the average number of covered services it required.

By not changing the cost for the 16", I think it shows that Apple really doesn't trust the reliability of the 16" yet.

Tech Crunch's article is also somewhat misleading in that it suggest that the keyboard is more reliable since it's not covered by Apple's keyboard repair program.

The 16" keyboard may or may not be more reliable but, Apple doesn't apply the keyboard repair program until the model year shows significant issues (i.e. some months from now Apple may or may not apply the Apple keyboard repair program to the 16" depending if problems show up).

I'm not assuming that the new design is much better until I see it in use for awhile.

Just as I predicted ;)

Looks like Apple got this one right. It makes perfect sense that this would replace a model that's not even a full inch smaller. $2399 out of the gate isn't bad, and there will be deals from Amazon, B&H and BestBuy over the next year. I love that 512GB is base storage option.
