Missing Wi-Fi 6 (which would have been available from Intel) and still using a 720p Facetime camera is disappointing.

720p is disappointing, but they figured increasing the res to 1080p wouldn't automagically improve its image quality. You cannot have near zero bezel AND a big camera bump like the iPhone 11 at the same time, and they don't want a chin cam or a notch either. We can always buy an external camera for those few times when we talk to friends and family. I don't think those big laptops will ever have cameras nearly comparable to smart phones. Yes, they could do a bit better, but not without compromises.

Wi-Fi is a bit disappointing, but it's common for companies to not fix everything in a single iteration. They're also innovating more quickly on the iPhone. You have to balance so many things, heat, performance, battery, deadline, cost. You could mention any arbitrary feature. Why no 120Hz display? Why no OLED? Why no FaceID? Why so expensive? Why so much heat? You could go on and on. There's usually a compromise when you include bleeding edge features, something always has to give. They went for the best balance they could reasonably achieve. Regardless of what they did, someone would always complain.

They had to fix the keyboard, that was absolutely top focus, and they wanted to reduce the bezels as well, to get rid of the old tired design, and that's what they could fit in to this iteration. Maybe next year there'll be FaceID, Wi-Fi 6, 2 years from now OLED, and so on. Someone will always be unhappy, too expensive, too little too late. If you want a Mac, you'll never have as big of a selection as from Windows machines.

From a 2012 13" to a 2019 16" and the keyboard is all you think is better for your $2K?

Correct. If the keyboard is defective, it's cripples the functionality for a Macbook because it doesn't support a touchscreen. I'm holding off on the latest 13 version because of the known problems with the Butterfly keyboard. Bottom line...It's my $2k, not yours.

Anybody out there still defending the butterfly keyboard: you were wrong. Apology accepted.

(Been waiting a long time to type that, and it feels great.)

Wrong about what exactly?
There is no right or wrong in terms of the keyboard. I was unsure about it initially but now like the butterfly keyboard a lot. I've likely been lucky but never had any keys stick or be unresponsive.

I had the 2015 MBP before upgrading in 2017. I used to love that machine and wasn't expecting to upgrade but it was a work thing that forced the upgrade. Now when I use my wife's 2015 MBP, the key travel seems ridiculous to me, having said that the 2015 is still an awesome machine.

So in summary, I believe this is not about right or wrong but user preference.

I'm overall a pretty big fan of this upgrade but why no 802.11ax? Intel has the AX200 module, it's on the iPhone 11? A little surprised at that when I checked out the tech specs.

Also my longstanding criticism of lack of 120Hz and VRR.
I'm surprised by this as well. Considering that I recently I got a new router that supports 802.11ax and is equipped with an Intel chip (Nighthawk AX4). Once again, sounds like another way for Apple to save some money by cutting corners.

Hardly suprising as Apple has been strictly using WLAN NIC's from Broadcom for the past 10 years or so. As far as I know it's only Intel that is currently offering 802.11ax m.2 NIC's at this point in time.

The entire WiFi-6/802.11ax is a rather messy release. A lot of suppliers have added 99% of the features of 802.11ax into existing 802.11ac NIC's already they just need certifications and drivers in order to enable them all. The question is if they will ever bother with getting the certification and activating the features, or just try to push new and almost identical NIC's that is branded as WiFi-6/802.11ax.

Well crud! I just bought a new 15" Macbook pro on 10/27. My 14 day return window closed three days ago! That is not to say my new MacBook is bad but I paid full price only to have this new version, at the same price, get released almost immediately following.

I had to replace my old trusty Mid-2011 Pro which began having CPU panics due to the GPU beginning to fail.

Talk to the store manager and explain the situation. Be nice and I'm pretty sure they will let you return or exchange it. Sometimes when it's just days outside your exchange window, they make exceptions.

No it’s not. Stop spreading fake news. 45w 9th gen chips don’t have WiFi 6 (AX). Apple would have had to implement a 3rd party controller.

You’ll have to wait another year for 10th gen chips.

Thicker, heavier, more functional. The jony era is truly over!
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Apple should really consolidate its product lines. Let the MacBook Air be the super-skinny, super-light laptop. Make the MacBook Pro thicker, heavier and have the faster CPU & GPU, more RAM, etc.

Same with iPads. Have a regular iPad for those who want the super-skinny iPad, and a thicker iPad Pro for those people who want more powerful CPU/GPU.

I'm on the same boat. I didn't want to wait for the 16" thinking that it would be a lot more expensive, but here we are. Missed the return window by 3 days too!

They had me at scissor switches. I will now consider this new 16 inch machine. My 2012 MBP is far behind; it is showing RAM/processor limitations in some of my uses.

The MacBook has already been discontinued.

I'm sold! Enough waiting, this is what many of us have been waiting for.

I would prefer function keys instead of Touch Bar, upgradeable RAM and storage but I am not gonna be too picky. This is more than alright.

Relax dude. WiFi 6 is definitely available on systems with 9th gen chips (so it's not out of the realm of possibilites) using an Intel AX200 m.2 PCI-e card that is widely available and cheap. Could Apple have implemented the same parts on the system board and have WiFi 6 available now? Probably. Would Apple even use Intel WiFi chips since they haven't used them in recent history? Probably not. Which one then has to wonder if they'd use the 10th gen WIFI chip support or wait for Broadcom?

You were talking about the 2019 16", NOT a butterfly keyboard. Yep, it's your $2K, but there are further improvements in the new 16", which you referred to, over your current machine that warrants the $2K.

The MacBook is gone, it's now 13" Air; 15W 13" Pro; 28W 13"Pro; 16" Pro. The obvious overlap is between the two 13" Pro models, but assuming the 28W model is soon changed into a 14" model that will put a bit more space between them, particularly if it gets dedicated graphics. They could probably drop 'Pro' from the 15W model's name though, and have:

13" MacBook Air (dual core, HD graphics)
13" MacBook (quad core, iris graphics)
14" and 16" MacBook Pros (4,6,8 core, dedicated graphics).
