I hope I'm TOTALLY wrong about that...
Just scares me a little when I see exactly the same keycaps..

(no real logic there other than I could have seen a slightly tweaked keycap while doing a new switch also)
To be fair, the Magic Keyboard keycaps look nearly identical, which is the best anyone can hope for at this point. I find the Magic Keyboard to be the best feel for me; crisp, yet slightly yielding and better travel, but not too much and not wobbly like the 2012-2015 keyboard was and not so “brutal” and unforgiving as the 2016-2019 butterfly mechanism when you fail to strike them perfectly. The picture also looks as though they are spaced further apart closer to the Magic Keyboard and the 2012-2015 spacing which is 70% of why I don’t care for the butterfly keyboard. Have to compare overhead pictures to be absolutely certain, though.

Talk about teasing the details out painfully slowly!!!

So that image hopefully confirms a hardware escape key with a shorter Touch Bar in between that and the power/TouchID button.

We just can't tell about the keyboard from that image; I mean, it looks identical to the current MBP keyboard, but surely it will have the new scissor mechanism?

And it doesn't appear to be a "new" design - looks like the current design with some tweaks. Although the devil's in the details - i.e. ports...

Just maybe tomorrow.... Apple will dress up as a computer company for Halloween and release the 16" MacBook Pro with a keyboard (real), escape key, touch ID and 120 Mhz display AND the MAC PRO!!!!! 🎃

I'm mixed my touch bar, but i really do like the Touch ID. FaceID would be a plus here as well

The TouchBar is weird. I like it better than function keys—but that's a pretty low bar considering I found the function keys to be almost useless, except as media keys. I haven't used them much since DOS days. Things like sliders for brightness and volume are definitely superior to buttons. Replacing Siri with a lock screen button is something I use constantly at the office.

These are all "nice." The amount of tech necessary for the Touch Bar and what I get out of it seems like overkill. The other issue is that I tend to have my laptop docked. Until the Touch Bar becomes more widely integrated, I think it's going to continue to occupy this weird zone. Sidecar might help with that, since the TouchBar controls are available on the iPad but still, I think they need a standalone keyboard with TouchID and a TouchBar that comes standard with some of the desktop units. (I have no idea how much tech or cost is involved though. Just spitballing.)

TouchID is super nice too—but my wife's Air has it without the TouchBar.

Has anyone tried overlaying this new image over the 15 inch? I've tried but I can't seem to get it right and I can't tell if that's because I haven't got the skills or if the keyboard keys are a slightly different size.

One thing is for sure, it's just a tad wider than the 15".

I'd buy it. I like the butterfly keyboard (ducking)

Here we come!!
:p

Howwwww are they gonna release this and not include FaceID? Putting TouchID on a new laptop now is just archaic

The keys appear to be spaced further apart, closer to the 2012-2015 MacBook Pro. I have always maintained that was one of the biggest reasons the keyboard hurt to type on after long sessions. It’s only a millimeter closer, but damn does it make a difference.

Read the article.
You sound ridiculous with that take right now given this new information

I already did. The image shows that keyboard itself is a butterfly keyboard which is not a reliable source. Why would they keep using that for? It is well known that the butterfly keyboard is very unreliable and fragile that Apple has to pay for repairs.

With displeasure and controversy over the butterfly keyboards it would make sense to release this next year since the rest of the MBP would be getting the new scissor keyboard. However, if the scissor keyboard is already in production now and can be implemented, then maybe we will see it in November ready for the holidays and Apple looking to boost its revenue.

The last 3rd gen MBP got a new trackpad that 4th gen have before the announcement. So maybe they might add a scissor-type keyboard for this year I guess?
