As the problem with the butterfly keyboard is solved in the 2019 versions, based on this image, I bet that this comes with the exact same keyboard. They're not supposed to fix what isn't broken (we've seen how it goes) ...

I could *live* with the butterfly keyboard on this model if need be.

I am using the new butterfly keyboard with this year's 13" MBP and it's far better than the 2018 and 2017 iterations.

Still, I understand there are a small handful of people still having issues with it and I certainly would appreciate more key travel.

I'd buy it. I like the butterfly keyboard (ducking)
If you can get into a rhythm, it can be quite fast and comfortable to type on. However, I find that when I get out of a rhythm, it’s harder to get back into one with this keyboard compared to the old scissors mechanism. If this keyboard is indeed based on the Magic Keyboard mechanism then you may get to keep most of the feel of the butterfly with none of the really annoying caveats (keys stop working). The spacing between keys will be critical and a touch more travel without the wobble of the 2012-2015 make for happier campers. Let’s hope Apple pulls this one out of the fire.

Still rocking that horrid touchbar thing, eh?

To me at least it always reeked of them realizing that they needed to separate the Macbook Pro line from generic Windows laptops with something "innovative" and that was the best they could come up without having to significantly re-work or re-design the line. Only cost them a bunch of internal space they could have used for better cooling, keyboard mechanism or a bigger battery.

I loathe it and the butterfly keyboard so much that last time I replaced my Macbook Pro (back in 2017) I just bought a second hand machine to avoid the touch bar and keyboard even thou I could easily afford a top-of-the-range machine. Bought all of my previous machines, three 15" Macbook Pro's, brand new but Apple has gone so much backwards in usability I just couldn't justify the expenditure.

Removing the SD card reader was absurd 3 years ago, and still completely nonsensical 3 years later -- to the surprise of no-one, cameras still use SD cards. What a waste, considering many equally-thin PC laptops offer a SD card reader. Bringing it back would be admitting a mistake, so my expectations are very low on that one.

But nope, I guess the useless touch bar has to survive.

It still blows my mind that they removed this. Until they bring it back, I'll keep my 2015 15' MacBook Pro.

You could just buy a Magsafe cord. Amazon sells them.

That's good news.

The bad news is that I did a lot of research on them and most all have really bad reviews as far as dependability is concerned.

It's not solved at all.

Better in what way?

The last 3rd gen MBP got a new trackpad that 4th gen have before the announcement. So maybe they might add a scissor-type keyboard for this year I guess?
It would make a whole lot of sense to have the scissor keyboard since this is a new MBP but it not...there will be a long line of criticism to follow.

The touch bar is semi-useful. It's nice when a dialog box comes up, it's nice in messages, and it's great for scrubbing video. But, I wish they would put it above the fn keys though. Look at the Zenbook Pro duo and tell me Apple is making good use of that space. It's ridiculous. We have to wait and wait and wait for Apple to provide even the most basic features!

@Spectrum Agreed - I hate that stupid thing. Really hope it's optional
How many 'Pros' do you think actually cared to have that touchbar? It is only useful in a few scenarios, and I'm sure most would prefer to have real function keys and Escape button over the useless touchbar.

I wouldn't mind seeing it scrapped altogether. Stupid from the start. Hope this MBP still comes this week.

Softer to type on. Definitely. No sticking keys. Not as annoying to use as the other two keyboards which I absolutely hated.

Nobody is going to believe me, but the 2019 keyboard is an improvement. As far as Butterfly keyboards go, Apple got it right this time.

Still, not my first choice. I would want a scissor-type mechanism beneath my fingers. However, it's not going to stop me from buying a 16" MBP if it still has this improved iteration.

Finally, someone realised what "pro" stands for!

I really liked TouchBar on the five 2017 MBPs that I returned within three months due to keyboards breaking – BetterTouchTool + TouchBar = something actually useful. I hated the TouchBar Esc key and, in true Steve Jobs "those shades of white are not identical, the new iPhone is cancelled" fashion, I was extremely irritated by the TouchID seeming to be a part of the TB, but not looking identical. This could be a "take my kidneys, Apple!!!" moment... if a 14" happens as well as 16" – for what I do 16" is a massive overkill, with emphasis on "massive".

I'm typing this from my 2-to-1 touchscreen Hacbook Pro. The only time ever I use the touchscreen is in Affinity Photo (Photoshop has a delay that pretty much allows me to get a coffee before the pen registers). When I had TouchBar in those 2017 MBPs and I adapted it to my needs with BTT, I really enjoyed it. So that would make two people who admit to liking it ;)

I wonder how big the 16" trackpad will be, though. TrackPad 11 Pro Max?

If the right two persons are reading this: the planned speech entries with ”unprecedented” quality keyboard, still keeping the thin keyboard that the users...love, reinvented keyboard technology etc. All that crap, skip it. As you know and have discussed, people will hate the ”new low” key travel.
Just saying.
