2016 version was released in October. Which puts it currently at 2 years and 4 months. So it'll be close to 3 years by the time WWDC rolls around, but well short of 4. But given all the problems they've had, maybe they're pushing up the redesign?

Or maybe they're pushing up the redesign as otherwise there's not much they can do this year due to Intel and AMD being heavily delayed on Ice Lake and Navi.

I already changed what I said but yeah, only 3 years so far. I guess they gonna release 16.5 MacBook Pro ONLY for this year. Intel is a problem but AMD is ready because MacOS Mojave indicates that 4 Navi GPU is already included in MacOS.

Thats awesome. Maybe smaller bezels with the footprint of a current 15 inch.

Will Apple still offer the 15 inch? Seems a bit redundant to have both 15 and 16 inch laptops (16.5 is a bit more forgivable!).

I never understood these things. They have their devotees (the old 17” machines anyway) but even in their heyday I’d say the general MBP user went for the 15”, another large contingent went for the 13”, and a tiny number went for the 17”. And most the people I saw getting these were basically older guys already accustomed to lugging around boat anchors.

Don’t get me wrong, if the demographic exists, serve it. I’m never sad to see someone get the product they want but this machine always seemed the El Camino of computers.

Of course I talk about portability like it’s a huge deal and 99% of the travel on my laptop is from home to office and back with workstations set up in both locations. I’m hardly doing the road warrior thing with my 13”, lol.

Carrying a 17 is easier than carrying a smaller one and a separate 17” monitor.

Some of us need the real estate for bigger fonts...

If the all new design is coming out 1 year early it proves that that the criticism about the current design has been heard by the apple design team. In other reason I can think of that would necessitate this rollover this early. Interesting...

It'll be so beautiful and even thinner than ANY previous Macbook Pros.

But watch it start with 8GB and a 128 SSD as the base configuration. It'll also ship without a physical keyboard, because courage!

Features this thing needs:

  • Emoji-bar optional.
  • No condom keyboard.
  • Matte screen option.
  • nVidia GPU.
  • User upgrade-able Ram and SSD.
  • Apple pencil support built in the Trackpad.
  • Mag-safe
  • Cooling solution that doesn't throttle (excessively).
  • Illuminated Apple logo on the back, just because damn it.. it's a Mac!!
Most important of all a reasonable price

But there is no information about 13 and 15 inches so I doubt that.

Picked up the new gold Macbook Air, $200 off over President's Day weekend. I don't see why anyone needs a pro anymore!

Please make it a little thicker - so it can breathe and all the high end components, can leave thermal difficulties behind.
.......A non glossy screen would be ideal for any professional or anybody serious about their photos.
........Also, just use the keyboard from the old 17 inch.

Guaranteed price.

Butterfly keyboard sucks. Who designed it?
Totally doubt about nVidia GPU
Matte screen is better but I have no idea why Apple is still using a glossy panel for?
Mac is not user upgradable. Maybe with Mac Pro but not on MacBook series
Mag safe is great but will they gonna bring it back?
Laptop always throttle no matter how thick it is and how better it is.
Apple pencil... hmmm perhaps they gonna make a touchpad instead of the keyboard?

This is exciting, and 1000% unexpected.

Hopeful for a new keyboard.

Keep in mind though, current version is 15.4" so if this comes out at 16", it will barely be any different.

This is most likely the 15” with a 2:1 aspect ratio screen.

I doubt it will be a replacement for the 17”, which will probably still have vastly more horizontal screen space.

It can start at $4000 for all that matters; it should have MagSafe, SD-card slot, 2 USB type A housing for the USB-C ports, two regular full featured USB-C ports, HDMI and an audio-jack.

And, no bloody Touch Bar!

and don't forget the Firewire 400/800 port, CD/DVD, the Floppy Drive and a 56k modem, I would also like a clear cover that slides off and has some cool custom patterns I can put under it like my PowerBook 1400 has!

Oh wait I can do almost all of that if needed with 4 TB3 ports and whatever additions (dongles or hubs) I choose. I can also drive 4 displays (I currently run 5 with MacPro).
