I am very dissapointed and I´m thinking about returning it but before that, is this amount of ghosting normal? What´s the point of having ProMotion if you cant even read while scrolling? Nice job Apple.

Hi fella. Not the most friendly bunch on here are they? Gutted to hear the new model has poor response times too. It was the first thing I noticed on my last gen 16.

Fwiw, I got my folks an M1 Air and the screen response was much better than my 16 inch. No ghosting at all when scrolling.

Ignore the toxicity. There are already other threads from people reporting similar issues to show it’s not just you.

Fingers crossed they use more than 1 manufacturer for the panels and you get a good one next time.

Let me explain something to you because the laser eyes are obviously making you dull.

Shake your hands in front of your face.

Notice the ghosting effect?

Now look around quickly left and right 10 times.

See how the room was blurry?

Repeating movements produce ghosting effects even in our eyes, not just on screens.

Even your eyes are contributing to that ghosting effect when you move an object around in a circle on a screen.

But repeating movements like this have no real world purpose. Why would you move a window around in a circle? Because you’re bored with life?

Your vision also has natural bloom effects. So now go make blooming videos.

You're insulting him and being aggressive simply because he's pointing out a well known issue with these displays. The ghosting doesn't affect me too much in my workflow but I'm not gonna pretend it's not there or go on some weird tangent about "your eyes already have ghosting bro!"

He's moving a window around to demonstrate the effect. The effect would also be visible in gaming or scrolling through lots of text. Stop trying so hard to attack people that take an issue with something they've purchased.

The slow response rate on these displays is already well documented. It's a good panel for many people but it is clearly not designed for gaming. This fact is disappointing because it is supposed to be a 120 hz monitor, which some will assume to be gaming capable. But sadly it is not. Keep your MSI, Razor, HP or whatever if you want to game on your laptop.

Stop trolling.

It’s there but it’s not exaggerated like that in real life. Please stop with the ghosting nonsense. It’s there but it’s not to this extent (as if you have 244hz vision to see it in slow motion) and if you can’t stand it don’t buy it.
Isn’t it also a dark-mode-only problem that they probably fix in a software-update?

Normal speed video, let´s see how many times do I have to prove you wrong. Im not trolling. I can see it clearly and If u cant see it in this video, go check medical care.

Like this is what you do all day… Does it really bothers using normal usage instead of moving the window for a video on MacRumors Forum? Also, as I said in my previous comment, I thought it is a dark-mode-only problem which Apple 100% sure will fix in a future software-update. Correct me if I am wrong.

Poor response time and refresh rate are different things. A monitor can have an extremely high refresh rate but it’s worthless if the response time of the panel is slow. It can’t be fixed in software. It’s a hardware problem unfortunately.

But do you see it in normal usage? And I believe it still isn’t a problem in light mode, somehow?

It's noticeable from the reviews I've seen. Seems like it's 30+ response time, which is absolutely dreadful for a high refresh rate display. The display is still gorgeous, but the response time is hot garbage. Perhaps they'll fix this in the next iteration of the MacBook Pros.

That’s sad. Don’t want to spend €3849 on a thing I don’t like. Guess we will see when it arrives.

My 3k 16 inch MacBook Pro screen is very distracting with any screen movement . The 1k MacBook Air M1 in the other room looks perfect. Everything is subjective but I think it’s fair to expect a Pro machine to have a good quality display isn’t it? At the very least, it should be as good as a machine a third of its price.

It def has pretty bad motion blue. Scrolling through a terminal screen is noticeably blurry. Not bad enough to return it, the upsides of the display overcome it, but yeah ghosting is def a very weak point.

At least you have a 14 day return period to see if it's something you'll want to keep.
Yeah, that’s absolutely true! I tried it at an Apple Premium Reseller and didn’t notice anything.

Obviously, yes!

The more I use this MacBook it’s making me wanna return it, the intel screen is better in some ways

The talk about trolling is pretty rich, given some of those involved.

It's not likely your screen is defective, so exchanging it probably won't help. The typically slow response time for Mac laptops bothers some people, and others don't even notice it (might bother me if I used my laptop for some kinds of movies or games), but it's measurable and verified to be what it is. Can't tell from the video that it's worse than before. Don't hold your breath for better.

thats why i want actual scientific measurements done on the display, to measure the actual GTG / MPRT of the display. Under the impression that its not that great. I'll be honest, using this display reminds me of early model LCD's that had really high response times. Would like someone such as Vincent Teoh on youtube to really gauge the performance of the display. I'm still on the fence if I should return the MBP. One concern I have is that its possible next year's model will assuredly have improved response times, and I'll be stuck with a display I'm not 100% happy with.

The risk is that you will be waiting for years. But I agree that the display response times appear to be very lackluster. There are many superior displays from competitors -- especially at these price points.

I'm waiting for the Linus Tech Tips review. They bought literally every configuration of the new MacBook Pros for review. I'm sure they will go in very in depth.

made my decision. after using the 16" MBP for some days, I can't get over the high response times. Unfortunately this is enough of an issue for me to return the device. This is actually the first Apple device I've ever returned for not being satisfied with the product. This is also NOT a panel lottery issue, as the same issue is exhibited even on demo models at Apple stores (checked today in-store). Beyond that everything else about this MBP is perfect. I tend to scroll a lot, and moving windows around. Its enough of a distraction to the point that I will never be satisfied with it. I'm going to wait and see if Apple comes out with a software fix (I doubt it however, as the high response times seems to be a hardware issue) within the next two weeks. If no response from Apple or updates, I will be returning it.

Here is to hoping that next year's MBP will have some improvements to the display. In the meantime, I'll continue dailying the M1 13" MBP.

Lol I don’t need to justify jack dookie. You obviously want to start a lame thread complaining when all you have to do is just not buy the thing. End of story.

Folks it doesn’t look anything like this in real life usage. This troll obviously wants to gaslight…
And, thinking about myself, I usually scroll, stop, then read. Scroll, stop, then read. For those that like to read the text in motion, like a non-perspective tilted Star Wars intro, I’d say they should return their MBP
