It’s weird for me, because sure, it’s heavier than my 14 Pro, but the weight distribution makes it feel lighter. It’s a bit of an adjustment because there’s more “unsprung” weight but I’m coping fine.

I’m not huge or incredible strong but this too heavy talk is wild. Especially when we are saying we are okay with a 15PM but the slight increase makes it too heavy. Lol

These comments ‘you need to go to the gym’… it’s not about whether person can lift the phone or carry it… it’s about user experience when it becomes cumbersome to use it comfortably. It doesn’t matter if you ‘weak’ or ‘strong’. Apple has crossed the line with size and weight. I think MKBHD started this by complaining around iPhone 6-8 times that phones are becoming too thin and companies should make them thick for more battery and camera bumps. And the internet parrots followed. Yeah right for his use perhaps. But the normal users have a little different needs. As a person who was fine with iPhone 6 battery life and took random pics here and there I really appreciated how thin and light the device was. Now I have to use these bricks because YouTubers made people think they all need same thing they do and Apple started making smartphones for YouTubers and Hollywood movie makers. At least there’s hope that iPhone 17 Air will lose that ridiculous camera bump and make the phone thin and light again.

I would like to add something here. My observation is that the cases makes more difference than weight difference of the phones. Here is some measurements I took:

1. 11 Pro Max in Apple folio case: weight 300 grams.
2. 15 Pro Max in Torras case: weight 270 grams.
3. 16 Pro Max in Apple silicon case: weight 262 grams.

As you can see it is the cases that are making a difference here and for me the phone in the case of my choice makes the 16 Pro Max the lightest of the three. BTW the 11 Pro Max does feel somewhat heavier.
Finally someone having some critical thinking. This critique is excellent and a great point. Case form design and weight affects the experience greatly. In my case for example I use a case 80% of the time and the other times naked for that excellent material feel.

Whitby, that heavier feel on the 11pm is different weight distribution most probably.

Also, phone weight will not go down from here on. The reason is due to material physics limitation (ti is less dense than stainless and the Pro is not going to aluminum if ever).

Unless they make the phone smaller, weights are not going down, specially when they increase battery (at this point I don’t think apple will increase battery capacity with bigger physical form factor)

They would need to make the internal components such as pcb/cameras physically smaller/lighter material (unlikely in the near future)

I had the 13 PM which is 240 grams and went to the 15 pro max immediately because it is 221 grams..I'm not upgrading to something heavier even if it is only 6 grams....so thanks for proving our point :)
Well I mostly delve in facts so you are right, but don’t go thinking yourself clever. Don’t pretend you will feel the difference between the 15-16, especially if they are not side by side, (and even then most likely not, I can tell you, I have them both side by side)

Good luck in the future I guess, 15PM will serve you well for the next 10 years🫡, (unless you switch to alu or non max pro) btw 15pm is an excellent phone

You are right and I agree with mostly everything you said, most people don’t need to or should upgrade. YouTubers like to promote the fomo movement.

However we need some accountability, if weight is honestly a point of contention then you shouldn’t get the pro max. Now if you really want it, then get it, but don’t come and complain about it.

Imagine if fold phone users complained about the weight of their phones. If weight is such an issue, go and get a Google pixel or an S 24 non-ultra then you will a sub 200g device.

Like you said there are thousands of variations of use cases, so everyone cannot be satisfied. That’s why we get all the dissenting people in here complaining about minute bs.

Now in reply to your iPhone 17 wish, your banking too much on the rumours. You shouldn’t or expect to much or you’ll be disappointed heavily. There is non pro iPhones for smaller and lighter form factors already.

Also to all the weight haters out there there is the iPhone SE still on sale. And before you come here with your pitchforks screaming that it’s an old phone, you get a light iPhone with the latest iOS!! Yay!!

It just sucks that they made both the regular Pro and Pro Max larger and heavier again this year, after celebrating the size and lightness of the 15 Pro last year. It‘s just a few grams and millimeters, but after using the 16 Pro for a few days and then returning to the 15 Pro, you really feel it. I am always going caseless mind you.

I was not ready to pay a lot of money for a new phone that feels worse in the hand than the previous one, especially as all other upgrades are so minimal. Holding this thing in the hand is like 50 % of the experience lol.
Would most of those few grams be accounted for by the increased battery size?

Personally, not noticing the weight difference.

The extra weight is pretty small and almost entirely the larger battery. When Apple makes things thin and light, people complain about battery. When they increase battery capacity? People complain about thin and light. Thank god they don’t do focus groups for hardware design.
i mean they should just do nucular fission so it would create energy or some such without a battery. boom, problem solved. i’d happily pay another $100 for an iPhone Pro Max w Science edition

I saw Flossy Carter weighed his 15 Pro Max @ 233 grams and his 16 Pro Max @ 227 grams and repeated it several times. Has anyone else weighed these phones back to back?

10:29 into the video:
That was my first thought when I read this topic. I watched this video and remember him specifically saying that the new phones weighed less than the old.

I don’t mind if Apple has current thick and camera bumpy models available, I just wish they could have like one smaller and lighter device with modern screen to body ratio and Face ID. Like current SE body but with all screen front and notch/pill and square edges. Unfortunately they are going to make SE4 also big like 6,1 inch.

This will make the iPhone 17 Air feel that much lighter.

Apple loves to play these mind games, like making the Intel i9 throttle so much that a potato could keep up with it, making the M1 all the more impressive.

Yeah I guess they had to make 16 lineup a little bit heavier again so that 17 Air would look really light in comparison. Now when I think about it Apple probably recognised that people really did appreciate that the 15 lineup was lighter and saw an opportunity there. But instead of making the phones lighter they will leave the thick, heavy and camera bumpy modes for YouTubers and their followers to buy and for the other group of people who want thin and light device they will offer iPhone 17 Air for a premium price. Remember how very first MacBook Air was crazy expensive. It cost more than Pro lineup. Then they changed positioning and pricing eventually.

Apple sells multiple iPhone models, if Pro Max is heavy, no one is forced to buy. Pro, regular iPhone, SE are all options. It’s all about priorities.

I tried both the 15 PM and 16 PM side by side in the Apple store. One is heavier...not by much, but it is. Also, I didn't find the camera button gimmick worth upgrading.

If they keep getting heavier I'll just go to a smaller phone. NBD.

How would you notice a difference in weight? There’s only 1 gram difference between the devices.

It might be the case, I hadn't thought about that until someone else pointed it out, could also be the glass screen protector, I noticed the screen protector is a full slab this time with no cut out for face id or anything else, the extra material probably added weight plus extra material for the slightly larger screen compared to iPhone 12.

I had the max and it would pull my shorts down while running with it. Wish they released the mini again..

I agree, apple is super late with the SE update, I don’t like all decisions they make and the SE is one of the more serious ones, along with clarifying (at the minimun) if an imac 27 will ever come again even if I wouldnt buy it.

Even if some things could be better or different, I am damn happy the iPhone is such a reliable device overall that I can count to upgrade every year if I needed to (for whatever reason).

MacRumors: the iPhone 16 Pro Max is too heavy. It's unusable. Returning!

iPhone 13 & 14 Pro Max: Really b*tch?!

I weighed them on a scale so weight distribution would not make any difference, however the way that weight feels in the hand is definitely how it is distributed. The 11 Pro Max feels like a concentrated lead weight because it is smaller, but it is definitely heavier as the scales indicate. Appreciate your comments, thank you.

For me i think the weight is at its limit. I feel the additional weight everywhere. In the pocket, one handed, laying on the couch, etc. Love the phone but it needs to do some cardio.
perhap you need to do some weight training? its 227grams ffs - lighter than 14PM

Now you're getting to the point where the phone feels heavy. Doesn't the wind blow you away? Eat more porridge, you will have the strength to hold the phone in your hand on the couch )))) At the very least, attach wheels to the phone, like in Mac Pro and roll it behind you.
But the wheels cost $999!!
