If you had a 15PM the overall weight and height of the phone feels much bigger. I went and used my 15PM today and it’s noticeably lighter and easier to use
If you have a 15PM, there is no good reason upgrade to a 16PM anyway. Even the case for upgrading from a 14PM is very, very marginal.

The thermal improvements which are showing much less throttling and dimming in different tests, are one reason I'm heavily considering it.

I would like to add something here. My observation is that the cases makes more difference than weight difference of the phones. Here is some measurements I took:

1. 11 Pro Max in Apple folio case: weight 300 grams.
2. 15 Pro Max in Torras case: weight 270 grams.
3. 16 Pro Max in Apple silicon case: weight 262 grams.

As you can see it is the cases that are making a difference here and for me the phone in the case of my choice makes the 16 Pro Max the lightest of the three. BTW the 11 Pro Max does feel somewhat heavier.
Yeah I noticed my 15 pro max felt heavier than my 16 PM, definitely the case.

Well, given this great and important controversy, I decided to get to the bottom of the matter and report my results. Here they are, with both phones wearing a UAG Monarch Pro Kevlar case:

iPhone 14 Pro Max, 512MB, Gold (w/case): 11.0 oz (312g)
iPhone 16 Pro Max, 1TB, Desert (w/case): 10.8 oz (306g)

So, there you have it!! Despite having TWICE the storage space, the 16 is slightly less massive than the 14. What amazing advance in technology! How does Apple do it?!?!

Neither phone is so heavy that I can't lift it off my desk with relatively little effort. It might be because I get quite a workout wearing my Seiko Kinetic Big Boss watch, which is almost 8 oz, on my wrist.

The dilemma is real in my view if you look for all the threads on this topic on various message boards. I come from a 15PM and went to 16PM. 16PM immediately felt heavier (as it is) and uncomfortably large. As with everything, there is a tipping point. Once can overeat on pancakes and feel stuffed and then eat another piece and it's too much. Sorry for the visual.

For me it is so frustrating that I ordered a 16P and took both to work today, set up so I can jump back and forth and do the same tasks on both and compare my routine.
Also, noticed when reading email and in various apps, for the most part the 16PM adds white space but most of the content is displayed the same way sideways, with the exception of the screen being shorter 10mm so there is more scrolling.
Still, each time I use the 16P I look at the real estate of the 16PM screen and envy it, then pick it up and regret the size and weight. Back at home test the 15PM and it's manageable.
Maybe the solution is to go 16Plus while losing the ProScreen.
Solution was to stay with the 15 pro max for me

I fully agree. I upgraded from the 14 PM (mainly because of the battery, which was at 82% and need a replacement soon), but with Apple you have to upgrade AT LEAST every other generation, to see an improvement. And not only with Apple…
I am on the upgrade program so yes I upgrade every year.
An upgrade program that makes you upgrade every year is not so smart… not for you at least.

As I said above, no reason at all to switch from a 15 PM to a 16 PM anyway

They dont “make” me upgrade I could have kept the 15 PM but I want the latest phone every year.

Had a change of heart. After using both 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max simultaneously for a week, the 16 Pro Max feels lighter ironically due to better weight distribution across the larger surface. The 16 Pro feels denser and top-heavy so not as pleasant to hold, go figure.

That makes perfect sense to me. I have a 15 Plus and my wife has a 15 Pro. Even though my Plus is heavier in weight it feels lighter due to the weight distribution spread out over the bigger phone.

if thats how you feel with 15 pro, its even more pronounced with 16 pro since thats a beefier device.

I agree though, my 16 plus felt lighter than 16 pro even though they were both 199g, I think the in hand feel is a big advantage with the non pro's

I totally agree, that's the single reason why I have been buying non Pro phones, I want the lighter weight. I really want the more powerful Pro and the cost is irrelevant to me, I just refuse to deal with the weight of the Pro phones personally and I bet I am not the only one.

For me i think the weight is at its limit. I feel the additional weight everywhere. In the pocket, one handed, laying on the couch, etc. Love the phone but it needs to do some cardio.
Lol, is it your first Pro Max? Or you came from the likes of 11 Pro Max?
The 16 Pro Max is one of the lighter Max iPhones since Apple began making them, they peaked at 240g in the 13 Pro Max and 14 Pro Max.

do you feel you are missing out having a plus over max?

I would say no. While I wish I had the telephoto camera for the occasional times I need it, I am much happier with the lighter weight Plus since I carry that around all day and benefit from it daily.

Exactly. Coming from a 14 PM, the 16 PM is even better.

It is literally 28 grams of difference ! benefit from a spoon of sugar less ???
Dont get me wrong, the 16 Plus has terrific hardware and nice colors, and the price makes better sense than the Pro Max, but the lack of hardware features (like the telephoto but specifically a 60 Hz display and a worse quality material used for the frame) makes the weight difference negligible to me.

To me 28 grams makes a huge difference when it comes to a phone you carry around all day. To each their own.
