I have the 6gps DVD and it shows 1333..I don't know if thats actually the reason...

I think that is probably because you have the 13" which "only" (I use that word lightly haha) sports a dual core i5.

I think that a big key in having your machine support 1600MHz is having the quad core i7's (this isn't proven fact, but its the general theme here)

Nope. 13" owners are getting 1600MHz too.

Anyone observe shorter battery life after upgrade from 1333Mhz? From one of the review on one of the 1600Mhz RAM, a user said that he observe 45 minutes less in battery life.

I am on the fence to decide want to upgrade to 1600 or just stick with 1333. If there are so huge battery time different, i think i will stick with 1333.

Installed and now have 8GB @ 1600 speed :D

Just don't like how the modules seem to touch in the picture :/

1600 vs 1866 on Late 2011 Refresh?

About to order a late 2011 17" i7 2.5 Ghz MBP, and of course will upgrade the ram to 8GB. I was wondering if the refreshed processors handle 1866Mhz better than the previous one? I've been reading this thread and it seems that the Kingston 1600 Mhz one is more stable than the 1866 Mhz one. Anybody with the new 2.4Ghz or 2.5 Ghz MBP care to try/test?

One more thing, IF BY ANY CHANCE the 1866 Mhz one is stable, wouldn't its CL 11 (inferior to the 1600's CL9) mean that even in spite the +Mhz, it would still perform slower than the 1600 Mhz CL 9? Or am i just a newb who doesnt understand CL well?

Please bear with my newbness!

Stay with the 1600 CL9 instead of getting the CL11 higher clocked RAM. The difference is still slightly in favor of the 1600 CL9 (also depending on the other RAM stats, not only CL).

1000/800 * 9 = 11,25
1000/933 * 11 = 11,79

Am I missing something here?

Maybe Im blind but wouldn't an easy solution to the 1333/16000 performance argument be to simply run GeekBench on the 1333 then the 1600 and post both results?!

I'm sure someone has done this but I searched all 12 pages for 15minutes with nothing.

Tell me it ain't so!

I don't know how to do screen shoot or I'd post one. I put 8GB of Patriot 1600 MHz DDR3 SODIMMs in my early 2011 17" MBP. When I open About This Mac, click more info, and click the memory tab at the top is says.

Your Mac contains 2 memory slots, each of which accepts a 1600 MHz DDR3 memory module.

All memory slots are currently in use.

As my MBP is from the last run of 'early 2011', maybe Apple updated what memory it can use without announcing it.

so long as the memory modules work, you're not going to notice any difference between 1066, 1333 and 1600 in everyday use, in spite of anecdotal posts otherwise.

16gb (2x8) 1600mhz in Core i7 (I7-2860QM) possible?
yup? (even 32gb?)

sticks exist? link to purchase? lots of discussion but haven't seen it
purported to exist here

and here ("Considering that the 2.3Ghz with 16GB 1600Mhz RAM got a 11623 on Geekbench...")

seen this 8gb (2x4) 1600mhz

and this 16gb (2x8) 1333mhz

and scores of others, but no 16gb (2x8) 1600mhz

if they're not around, would you go for 16gb or 1600mhz?? i know i know "depends" "what's it for?" but given ideal platform and need for performance which takes the cake? (reading about merits of SSD in this arena as well, as far as where to put your money)

sorry if it's been answered but i've been looking for like 2 hours!! registered just to ask!:D

Hello i a new to MacRumors!

I already read all the post from this thread and after that my doubt subsist!!! :/

I have a MBP 13" 2011 i5 2.3 Vertex 3 MAX IOPS with 4gb ddr3 1333 and i want to update to 8gb of ram...

1) Should i buy 2vs4gb 1333 or 2vs4gb 1600 (besides the price) ???
2) What are the differences in performance??? in this laptop model...
3) The 1600 version actually work at 1600 or work at 1333??
4) What kind hyperx or other ?????

Best regards!

Arent both the 1333 Mhz and the 1600 MHz version running at 1.5V ??

If they are, there shouldnt be any battery drain, right ?

Anyone think these new Corsairs will work?

Click.

$25 cheaper than the Kingstons, and 1600MHz timings of 9,9,9,24 instead of 9,9,9,27. Only thing is that the website for the product does say it's XMP. Do the Intel boards in MacBooks support that?/Is it relevant if we only want to run at default speeds and timings?

I was able to get it to work. I had to purchase a $20 editing tool for windows, but I have found a place that has the 8GX's for $50 cheaper than 8G's. I bought a replacement 8GB for 10 of our 2011 pro's and were all running 1600mhz now.

I'll go grab the software I used when I get back to the office Tuesday.

Hi,

I bought the 8GX version as well without realizing the difference. I don't really want to be bothered by returning as the local computer store doesn't stock the non GX version. Are you able to tell me how you updated the BIOS configuration and the name of the tool you used?

I don't have Windows xp installed on my mac mini so would i need to setup windows xp on it?

Thanks in advance.
