Now that I think of it... does it have something to do with Steve's current thinness? Does he have some kind of all encompassing anorexia that he's forcing on his products?
The thinness obsession started before the "skeleton Steve" era, so if anything, it's the other way around. He saw the products and went "man, I wish I was that thin".

I don't recall thinness ever being a top request or priority among users, so this must be coming from Steve and/or Johnny Ive. The most glaring example of the thinness obsession gone wrong is the MacBook Air, a mediocre performer that was stripped of all connectivity except one measly USB port.

The next iPod Nano will probably be 2 millimeters thick, with a battery life of 8 minutes. It will break easily, so you need a sturdy case about twice the size of the current Nano.

I don''t think its that. I just think I'm getting old and just don't believe the hype anymore.

Its great being a cynic.

It's because you guys expect too much out of Apple as if they are changing the world or something. Can't wait till the event is over because there will be so much complaining as usual before anyone has spent any money. :p

Maybe he was diagnosed with something that generally makes you thinner, so he order all product thinner so no one would notice him when he held them? :p ok it's a stretch.

Yeah I don't what the thinness thing is all about. The only really new thing about the touch is it's even THINNER than before? Wow what a complete let down.

It's funny how people are already here on the boards saying, Oh should I get the new 16gb touch or the 32 gb touch... um... nothing has changed, it's the same decision you were making LAST time the announced the 32gb touch. i'm so sad. :(

The refurb prices have also dropped.

Touch 8GB = $179
Touch 16GB = $229

Hm, so it's either a brand new 8GB or a refurb 16GB for me. Any opinions?

Uh, why do they still insist on placing the standby button on the left side of the iPod Touch, when on the iPhone it's on the right? I alternate between iPhone and the Touch, and this inconsistency bugs me. Yeah, I know the iPhone has the headphone jack on the left so the button has to go on the right, but why not just put it there on the Touch as well?

So they mentioned new headphones available for $80 but what about the ones packaged with the iPods? Guess we still have the throwaway ones.

I like its position on the touch better, but the inconsistency between the iPhone and the iPod touch does get annoying, and it makes me look like a idiot when I push onto the plastic on top of the iPhone coz I am used to the sleep button being there :D

The $79 earphones aren't half bad. They have a nice design and sound quality is similar to those from higher priced name brands.

I just don't get why the earphones remain white while the iPods no longer even come in white.

You bet. It's only a question of time before they remove the USB cable from the iPod box so you'll be forced to buy that extra. They make great products, but they're also greedier than Gene Simmons. Out of all the words I could associate with the Apple brand, "generous" is at the very bottom of the list.

Oh well. I can't say I was let down by this keynote because it featured everything the spoilers said it would. What I don't get is why they told the press to hold out for a "big" announcement, there weren't even any new products, just minor overhauls of existing ones.

$79 for the new headphones? no thanks! That's WAY too much for a set of headphones.

Do you expect them to pack in the nicer sound quality and design earphones though? Audiophiles will have their own designer ones and everyone else just doesn't care.

I don't expect it to ship with audiophile earphones, no. I was talking about their general approach to accessory inclusion.

When I bought my first mp3 player (an iRiver) it came with a case, a lanyard, a USB cable and a charger. When you buy an iPod you get a USB cable and that's it.

My previous 3G phone (a SonyEricsson P1i) came with a case, a charger, a dock, a headset and a USB cable.

The iPhone 3G came with a headset of considerably lower quality, plus a USB cable and a charger without its own cable.

A lot of people make this big deal about the unboxing of an Apple product, well, it's not like they lavish you with luxury. If the unboxing of the Sony Ericsson phone was something like a candle lit dinner at a fancy restaurant, unboxing the iPhone was more like chinese takeaway.

The ironic thing is that you don't even need the case for the Sony Ericsson phone because it won't scratch unless you go at it with a knife or a screwdriver. But everything from Apple is so uniquely scratch-prone, you immediately have to go out and buy some kind of case if you don't want the gadget to look like a torture victim after 2 days.

CRAP!!! NO MORE 160GB Classic? I was hopping for a 240GB not decreasing capacity!!!! BAD BAD BAD BAD:mad:

Yell at the HDD manufacturers for not making a 250GB HDD that will fit in the current iPod Classic form factor.

For that matter, yell at whomever is making the 160GB drive (Toshiba?) for not making it thinner so it would fit in the 80GB case so we would not have to "settle" for 120GB.

Heh. I win :p
Heh... well, I'm not sure their plan worked, news coverage is rather sparse. Out of all the mainstream news sites that normally are crazy about Apple's announcements, only half of them mention anything about these "new" iPods.

Reminds me of a news conference held by the Swedish prime minister back in 2006 in front of a bunch of bewildered journalists. The first question was "Uh... why are we here?"

Honestly, why bother with the iPod Classic anymore, let alone a watered down version? The huge storage capacity is its only sales point, and now they've shrunk it by 40 gigs. Why not just slap the 120 GB HD inside an iPod Touch and lose the old interface? I don't think the Classic fans care how thick a Touch with hard drive would be...
