I also orderd by 17"er from the ADC Store and also received notice that it has been shipped and should be here Wednesday.
Only I ordered mine Jan. 26.

I think that in this case the obvious answer will be six months from shipping. Six months from announcement is almost two months from now. Updates happen because the old model is getting long in the tooth causing the sales to slow. That won't be the case two months from now.

that only seems logical. I'm thinking all the laptops will be upgraded simutanesaouly. Most ofthe processors cannto be bumped without interferring with another processors sales. Since this is the year of the laptop I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a new or bumped delayed until summer when maybe we will see bumps in both albooks and the new 15 albook with some the 17in features. Just my thoughts. We all know that the iBook cannot be upgraded to a faster speeed than the 12in albook.
hey i hope that this powerbook g4 17"er wont bee out of date because when i get it hopfully in the next shipping in the first week of april it wont be out of date? like in a couple of months, that would be very annoying sepnding thta amount of money then realising summing else just...some up shall we say?

Someone bought the 15 Ti SuperDrive 1GB Powerbook in December thinking that he will enjoy the latest, greatest laptop on earth. Then on January 6 ( MWSF) Apple introduced the Alu 12 and 17 Powerbook. He almost hit his head on the wall!! For now, the 17 AluPB is the latest, greatest, meanest laptop on earth. I'm enjoying mine while it last!!

I am awaiting mine...just ordered on 3/24/03 and got a ship date of on or before 4/28/03. They upgraded me for free from ground to 2nd day delivery, then they upgraded me again for free to priority overnight. I am so happy...this will be my first mac. I already got my awesome Timbuk2 sleeve for it in a five-o-blue, and my blue creature speakers have been shipped out. I am just waiting for my 17" Powerbook. Yehaw!

So I actually got it a few days ago, Apple shipped it overnight Sat delivery to mkae up for their prior abuse, heh. It's quite beautiful and amazing... I can't tell you about games or anything too technical, but I've reached 14x ripping cds (i'm backing up a collection of over 10000 albums).
I have some issues, please don't flame me... This is also my first laptop, though. When typing, the keyboard is a bit far away, and my wrists lay on the cornered (not rounded) edge. Over time this gets painful. I'm tryin to float my hands above the keyboard now, i think it will make me buff too, heh. The battery life is nothing like 5 hours... 2:40 is the highest i've got. I am ripping cds constantly though. Also, copying a 700M mp3 cd takes about 7 minutes, the same time as my G3 yosemite. That's depressing, though i suppose it's more based on HD speed, right? If this is a processor-based function, we've got problems. the keyboard illumination looks entirely hip... When my screen is asleep. Otherwise, the screen generates enough light almost always to keep the illumination from going on.
Enough complaining. Things are fast. It's impressive. time will tell if it's 3500$ of impressive, I suppose. I miss my turbo mouse, but if it's half the size of this whole machine. Portability is great, it's not as massive as I feared. Speakers are quite impressive for laptop, overall look is sexy. My hands sweat like hell on the thing though, when I can't keep them elevated. Any tips on what to clean with? i've been using a slightly damp paper towel (only on the metal surface). It's very quiet, minus the superdrive.
Oh I was also sad to see that a dvd takes 55 minutes... This is going to make backing up harder. Also, anyone have a recommendation for bulk blank dvds? All I can find are generic brands, and I fear trusting my back up to them without hearing any reviews.

So how are you going to get 10,000 albums on the HD? Do you have an external drive or are you going audio Cd->hd->data CD? I just finished putting about 700 audio CDs on my new PowerMac and the repetitive crapulence of the whole exercize was awful. My prayers are with you, Sincere.

cd to hard drive(s) to dvd-rs. that's why i asked about info on bulk dvd-rs. i've already ripped 200 mp3 cds which is somewhere around 2000 albums, perhaps more. Many are already on HDs, and I'm in the middle of the cds now. I guess it's more like 8000, I'm not even considering ripping my casettes and vinyl, which add up to somewhere near 10k.
Thanks for the wishes though, it's become mechanical for me to do, just pause every 5 or so minutes while reading, doing something on the machine or whatnot... But then again, I've only done a few hundred out of over 1000. Ah, the pains of a music piracy addict...

Sure mp4 is better, but i've got so many mp3s, i'm not changing it all now... changing the format of the existing ones is pointless, ripping into mp4 doesn't make sense as i won't be able to listen in my mp3 player...
Why? I love music, it's my life. I'm about to graduate with a music production degree. I may head to grad school for musicology. I'm also a songwriter and hope to be performing in the years to come.
The collection is an out of control hobby that i've put on hold. Unlike most collections, with the help of this new machine, this one won't take up too much space... The LPs still do. My baseball cards and comics still require a good deal of storage space... I learned my lesson. All I really have now is this machine, audio gear, instruments, and a camera... oh, and of course, my piles of music.

Swedish AppleStore now says shipping in 5 to 7 days, after many weeks of "3-5 weeks"
I have waited for so long that i'm not sure if this powerbook is real or just a myth.
Anyways, hope they start shipping powerbooks in the europe soon.
P.S. Quite funny actually, I keep calling my store where I ordered the powerbook but not to ask if they got any, but rather to ask what next delivery date they've gotten. damn this sucks

airport? freaking fast. i connected to my home network which is a bunch of M$ basestations and recievers. i play my games online using airport

i cant tell you how crazy this machine is
to give ya a quick idea. im ran konfab with 12 widgets....ical...stickies and wolfenstein without the game lagging or getting choppy one bit
my only concern is the screen - im scared i might get a finger print on it.
oh....bout the xbak thing....it wont let me run the aqua screen saver without it acting kinda funny
not sure how to explain...maybe thats just the screen saver
question - i want to change my icons to the apple aqua icons provided on the apple site. is there anyway to change my disk drive imaage? its soo not appealing
any one know where i can get some themes?
