Haven't even got my 17 yet, and here I read about new 970 17's in production already!

  :(

Chuck.

this sucks. it would of served apple right if people just waited for the new processor. taking orders for a product that isnt even available for shipping but with the promise that it will in a month is one thing. but taking orders and making people wait three months is just poor business. i dont think i will ever jump on a product right after its been released. i bet they didnt even offer discounts to the people that waited.

I've been playing with mine for about 5 hours now, and I'm not going to type the exact same thing everyone else has ;)

In other news CompUSA Apple dude said they have had 17" Powerbooks for 3 weeks now. WTF?

I did not get a discount but I got a free Apple "Powerbook G4 " t-shirt:)

its a real shame

well ive waited up to the edge people i have spoken to the head of the holdens computers shop to issue a complaint, i phoned up and told him wheres my powerbook, he said im terribly sorry but we have a long wait on these at the moment

i told him i was 4th in the list, he told me due to all the truble in war n ****, anyways hes said oh dont worry we will hopefully get a plane load over the next week so we should have quite a big order coming next week.well till next week guys......been such a long 13 weeks or so......just sik and tired right now.....
im asking for compensation...and some stuff chucked in...like an i pod...

...still just doesnt ease the pain though....

oh and i hope your right with this order of them coming over to the europe, i need something to play with over easter, but knowing me it may get chocolate on it :( thats if its with me, the shots ive seen of those powerbooks in the usa are sweet

I have not looked at that post above about a new project because that will fry me just incase i get too het up!

The wait continues........

Riko.

again - i just want to let you people who are waiting know - ITS WORTH IT

I just used it to edit an entire movie on a long-arse drive - trust me - the power, the style - its a freaking diva - an icon wherever you take it

believe me it takes a lot to impress me, it better be some super powerful machine and looks incredibly sexy in the flesh to impress me aswell as picture sound and graphic quality have to be impressive.

Riko.

:D

well it impressed me enough to switch over from my wintels and slap down 4'gs on a new machine that im totally unfamiliar with :D

side question - can itunes stream audio over a home network? i can access files on other computers, but i cant seem to play them without downloading them. i know winamp on my dells dont need to download inorder to play

well yeah i see where you ar coming from because im a switcher aswell, i mean im on a really powerful comp i find it okay but all the projects at college are using software for idvd and practicals like that i wanna lern em at home which i cant do, im new on macs and like playing about on new stuff for a while,
also it seems nice to show off i think

at college we have petty g3s and they always seem slow and running on os 9 i think quite pants hopefully my 17 incher will blow them away when i get it

:)

just unsure about the heat thing, i know o much on these windose comps but now it gonna be a whole new ball game with mac, been doing comp work on peecee for 10 years now....may be fading away...although ill need ms office.

Shipped

Mine shipped on 4/4/2003 priority overnight from Rancho Cordova California. I ordered 1Gig ram, air port base, printer through my ADC student discount on 3/13/2003. My OoB date was 4/17/2003. I'm so glad I can show this beast off to all at the University of Florida. I'm the first one with a 17inch laptop here out of 45,000 students.

I just set up my new Airport Extreme picked up at the local Apple store. It's really really great--it screams. For the ultimate mobility. All 17 users should get one.

On a side note, the salesperson didn't seem to know that the DVD burner is 1x speed. She was so surprised. She ran to another employee who said it is "what is listed on the Apple site" (how is that for a safe answer?). I guess he didn't know either. She couldn't find those specs on the Apple site so I had to look it up for her. Aren't these people supposed to know the product? Anyhow, the reason it came up is I was going to get a DVD-R 5-pack. I wanted to find out if the 2x discs are compatible. Can anyone here answer that?

Yes the 2x disc is compatible. In fact, it comes with a 2x disc that is inside your 17 PB box. I just burned one yesterday and it was pretty good. A 10 minute movie burned for about 30 minutes on iDVD. :) I've had mine for about 3 weeks now and I LOVE it!

That kind of happened to me too. I went to the local apple retailer here and I was going in to see if they had the 17" PB so I could look at them. This is sorta what happened:

One sales guy comes up to me and asks me:
him -"You need something?" in a unpleasant way.
me-"Yeah, I was wondering when the 17" PB are gonna be in"
him -"anyday now"
me-"what's the screen brightness, is it anything like the iMac?"
him-"i dont know, should be the same as the 15" PB"
me-"and how bright is that"
then he tries to find the control panel and after about 2min he finds it but cant find the brightness, so he just says "you can adjus it if you find it"
me-"thanks"
and he leaves....then another guy comes up to me and says
"could i help you sir" with respect
me-"sure" so i asked him about the brightness of the screen
and he was very helpful...but since they didnt have em in he tried to sell me a 12"PB with superdrive and 1mb L3cache-!?!?!
so i tell him "they dont have a L3 cache" and i went on to apple.com and showed him...it was pretty funny. No one there knows anything about macs except for one guy who is there Mac expert.

I haven't tried this myself, but I read through it and it should help you do what you want to do with iTunes. If not, it's still an interesting aritcle about the capabilities of OS X.2

i meant working with them as in buying a computer, not actually being a co worker.

oh ok...yeah, just imagine how terrible it would be to be their co-worker...haha!

mine was shipped on the 4th, but it's in alaska right now... and it's due to arrive in Baltimore on the 8th... hope it's worth it :)

How long did everyone's PBs actually take to ship once the credit card had been billed? Mine took a while - I assumed that they only bill you once the shipping process started.

You know, Apple so wants us to buy direct from them and not a reseller, but how can their people sell stuff they don't know about?

(I guess I'm still bitter about getting a 17 with stuck pixels which Apple didn't want to deal with.)

Get a 17" the fastest

I ordered another 17" PB last Wednesday through ADC. It shipped yesterday. I'm not trying to piss off people who have been waiting since January, but ADC really seems to expedite the process.

Wow!!!

Makes me wish I waited, NOT!! I'm completely happy that I went ahead and picked up the TiBook. In all honesty I would have loved to get the latest and greatest machine i.e 17", but that never materialized. In fact it would take about another 6mths with no guarentees, since I was going through the employee plan. That bites..LARGE:eek: . Nonetheless I am just greatful to have a machine and get my work done. For me it's about progress. For those who have recieved their's enjoy them. As for those still awaiting, I guess hang on it will be to you soon.
Peace.
