If you download Candy Bar from Apple's OS X downloads page, you'll get some themes and the ability to change all icons. From there you can go to iconfactory.com to get more icons. There are other sites to find icons, too. Right now, the One Ring serves as my Home icon. Good luck!
dae - when it comes to frame rate - im not sure - how do i check? i can tell ya that it doesnt get choppy. the games run better on my PB - i mean without any choppiness then on my brothers 2.4 ghz dell. i run both games at 800 x 600 and max out all the graphic stuff. i dunno..sorry im new at this testing bit. all i know is it screams compared to my brothers setup.

Well, mine has finally shipped from Taiwan. Probably won't get it until next week, because it has to go to the reseller first, but I'll be a happy man next week. I was beginning to think I might be in the same boat as Chuck, because my baby is due June 2. I was just hoping I would get my 17" baby first.

I just read over the messages from the past couple of days and saw that Sincere was looking for blank DVD-Rs. I buy them in bulk, so if anyone wants good, but cheap blank DVDs, I buy from Americal (www.americal.com). They're the lowest price - right now they sell 89 cents a piece for a 50 pack (Generic, silver top). They have every other kind of media also. I bought a couple hundred a few months ago when they were about 60 cents each and they were great. I called about a 50 pack that I tried and didn't like and they offered me a complete refund too. I'm going to try burning one in my 17" PB tomorrow, but so far they read just fine. Just some info. if it helps anyone.

Congratulations Phil! Being a dad is the best thing ever! It just completely changes your whole outlook on life. Needless to say I highly recommend it, sleep deprivation and all.

just ran return to castle wolfenstein at 1024 x 768
i didnt notice any difference at that setting. it ran just as smooth as 800 x 600. no choppiness what so ever
i still couldnt find that option that displays frame rate

the best i can do is a qualitative observation. i think you'll be pleased with it. it is pretty damn decent IMHO. once again - sorry i dont know how to check frame rate
my only problem with this whole RTCW - in multiplayer i keep getting my arse handed to me
do you know where i can download new maps and stuff for the mac version of the game? i cant seem to find it anywhere. and all the pc maps are zipped - so i dunno how to extract them
can stuffit unzip? im such a little nooblet when it comes to macs i know - be patient!! ill learn!!
random question - anyway i can make the dock more transparent?
chuck - does daddyhood make you feel like a grown up? must be kinda scary eh?

I had no idea you were a mac newblet Yes, Stuffit products work fine with zip and most other compression formats. I believe RTCW is based on the Unreal engine, so the PC maps should be compatible with the mac. Let me do a little searching and I'll get you a link.
There are mods out there to make the dock transparent that involve replacing the textures. I would just recommend hiding it, however, as that seems to work just fine for me.

Thanks Chuck, Yeah I'm pretty excited. It's our first and I have absolutely no idea what to expect, but I am looking forward to it. In other news, I'll be receiving my 17" PB tomorrow! The reseller got it today. (Kudos to Apple for shipping overnight from Taiwan) I ordered Feb 24 and had an OOB date of April 8, which never changed. So they beat their deadline. Maybe by the time you get yours Chuck, Chloe will be able to talk, and she could operate the PB using the voice commands. I'd pay money to see that!
I won't be able to get any sleep tonight, which should be good for me. I should be practicing my sleep deprivation for the baby anyway.

was sitting and fooling around with x-bak when this middleaged man came up to me asked "what kind of laptop is that if you dont mind me asking"
and i was like - well its a mac
and then he sat down and we got into this whole thing bout how he's in the market for a enw laptop but doesnt think he can shell out the 4g's my 17" cost. after a tour of osx, idvd and wolfenstein...he said he'll prob get the 12 " model
it was awsome

I know, this is not a big news for you americans since you've been receiving your for a few weeks now, but this is #2 powerbook in Sweden. This means that hopefully all of you in europe will get your in a few days.
Have to say one thing, this is my first macintosh and I dont regret for a single second that I changed from windoze to this work of art. It's just perfect, it is a pure quality product!

I know, this is not a big news for you americans since you've been receiving your for a few weeks now, but this is #2 powerbook in Sweden. This means that hopefully all of you in europe will get your in a few days.
Have to say one thing, this is my first macintosh and I dont regret for a single second that I changed from windoze to this work of art. It's just perfect, it is a pure quality product!

I just had my first trial of the display unit today at my reseller.... Ooooooohhhhhhhh... Wow! I knew the screen was big, but this is just gorgeous.
The trackpad button is 1000x better than the trackpad button on the 12". It feels silky smooth to click on and doesn't catch at all.
Apparently I'm the first customer on the list, I hope that means I get one next week. It would be awesome for a job I've got - 2x2.5m banner, which is about a 500MB Illustrator file...
Well, at least now I've seen one I know it's worth waiting for.

My 17" will be delivered by FedEx in a few minutes! The wait is over. I haven't even seen one yet. I didn't want to drive the 45 min. to the local Apple Store. My extra battery still hasn't shipped though. Did anyone else order an extra battery, and if so, have you received it yet? Seems like an odd piece to be back ordered on, not too many components to have problems manufacturing. But hey, I'm not a certified laptop battery engineer.
