I feel the same. It’s exactly their strategy, and in my view the strategy of most companies in the last few years: see just how far they can push with larger than normal price rises. And it’s working! We moan but pay. So it will continue. Realistically, 1Password do not care if you or I or anyone else on this thread doesn’t renew their subscription - because most will. To me, the drop in quality of the app is the real sting. Given the state of software nowadays I happily hurl money at high quality apps. But hurling money at apps which are getting more flakey…

Whats flakey in that image?

KeepassXC + SyncThing for self hosted synchronisation is multi OS and free. And also can survive losing your Apple account.
I don't understand people paying for password managers.

Fake fear mongering

It happened to someone on here.

Edit: It was their daughter.

Yup, mine. That was a nightmare.

For passwords I've happily used Clipperz.is since 2008. It's free. The app was created by European computer scientists who created a secure system that "knows nothing about you or your data." You might wonder why you haven't read about it compared with other password products. It's a good question to ask reviewers.

I remember using v1.x of 1pwd, and how they were so adamant about local storage being the safest way to go. I've purchased each new version, but I was not happy with the cloud and subscription requirements. I'm still on v7, with our shared vault on my NAS, so everything is local. I'll probably migrate to Apple Passwords when v7 no longer works, although I'd like to see them require more security (different password or passcode?) to open both the Passwords and Wallet apps.

I just switched to Bitwarden Personal for $19.80 a year.
Giving up a lot of functionality for $1 a month increase. But hey.. if you don't need the extras of 1PW, have at it.

I'm happily in the 1PW camp, but a change would likely move me to Apple Passwords and Uplock

I guess it also remains to be seen how bad it gets.

The private equity beast is never sufficiently fed.

I suspect it won’t stop with just these price hikes.

In the top, say, 25% of it, all the UI items have collided together and (the image of course can’t show this) the search bar cannot be used. To get around it I have to force-quit the app and start again. I have videos of worse bugs, including items repeatedly opening to a blank screen which scares the bejeezus out of me (data loss) - I just couldn’t be bothered to redact and post them.

So Bitwarden is your choice?

Bitwarden, a leading open-source password manager, secured a $100 million growth investment led by
PSG Equity

Ugh ...

I haven't made a choice, as my 1P renewal just processed in Jan so I don't have to think about it for a while.

I'm hopeful the Apple solution continues to improve and that's where I'll likely end up in 2027.

Bummer, is that is going on?

I try to avoid any company that private equity gets their vile mitts into.
Looks like Proton Pass (a feature limited product) is your next option

There are keepass-compatible apps on every platform.

Apple could certainly make some improvements

- 2nd optional lock.. password/pin
- File Attachments
- Custom Fields
- Custom Folders
- Tags (like reminders or notes)

And somehow bake in credit card fill. That would consolidate it into one app.

Yeah, I specifically need the ability to store various bank/CC credentials in Apple PW and have it all detached from my personal Apple Pay/Wallet.

Maybe look at Uplock? You could store them all there and keep a subset in Apple Wallet? They don’t have tags yet (🤞) but you could create a folder and put them there
