See how the headline even goes for a negative angle. Doesn't mention anything in the notice all the increased utility it provides or that cost of labor and running a business in general have greatly increased in the past couple years. MacRumors always wants to go with the most negative and click-bait headlines.

Which s irrelevant to teh customer unless the added value equals or exceeds teh price increase. What it costs to make something has no bearing on what people will pay.

Tried it and it is ok. Not even close feature wise. Also Proton will raise their prices no doubt. Their other products are not cheap.

Proton basic is free; but of course it depends on your use case. I've used 1PW for years but dumped it becasue they kept adding features I didn't need. The attachments storing is nice, and I keep an old non-sub version with my attachments just in case I need one for a receipt; but for me the free Proton Pass works fine.

I can’t imagine paying $4/month for something Apple offers for free. I get wanting a solution for people who use Windows computers, but for that price, just look up the password on your phone and type it on your PC.
Fun fact, Apple Passwords supports Windows.

It's just Android that it doesn't support.

Which is what a subscription is supposed to do 🙄

Meanwhile the 1PW Safari plugin barely works half the time with huge lag after unlock. I’ll be looking for an alternative.

Have you tried the KeePass compatible apps?

For something like 1Password I suggest Keeper or BitWarden.

But if you’re technically inclined nothing beats KeePass and self hosting. Just too bad main branch is Windows only. Strongbox is good on Mac.
Keeper sued some journalist years ago for exposing security issues. Nope to them.

While I like Stongbox, other apps are not as user friendly in the Keepass family. If it was just me, I would use it. My whole family uses 1Password and it’s very easy for them, including my elderly parents.

I live and die by 1Password (and now get it free for a family at work) but my parents are Apple Passwords users. And although I can't ever see myself leaving the 1Password ecosystem, but I think this is going to push a lot of folks to Apple Passwords and Bit Warden.
Agreed and exactly.

We've been using 1password for the better part of a decade. It's time to go. Apple Passwords is free and while it's not TOO expensive at $72 a year, it's an added expense that I don't really need and can't justify.

Seems like every price increase I try to find something else and I'm never successful. Just checked keepass, Bitwarden, keeper. Bitwarden seems the most comparable and similar UI. Getting a lot closer to move to Bitwarden but not quite there for two reasons. No way to import attachments from 1password and really need an in app viewer for the attachments. I don't want to download the attachment to my device I just need to preview it. So close but not quite there. I'd also just stick with apple passwords and notes (does in app preview of attachments) but you cannot lock notes if a pdf is attached in notes. Bitwarden is also $10 if you need attachments but I'm ok with that. I can always host it locally and not pay that fee and if I need to migrate in the future Bitwarden is certainly better than trying to migrate from apple passwords and notes combination. So I am stuck for now unless anyone has any experience of another option that handles attachments well.
I don't know the others but I was able to import all my attachments to strongbox without any issues (that I can remember). Some quirky behavior with fields. It imported them correctly (passport info) then when I wanted to add a new one it didn't have the fields. I copied an original passport and it gave me all the fields.

Not saying strongbox is as polished or good as 1password but they have free, subscription or lifetime options. You can also do local syncing only which I know for the most security conscious is a big deal.

As you, I needed attachment options and that integrated well.

If you install iCloud for Windows, you can view and manage your iCloud passwords on your PC. You can also have passwords autofilled in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox.

This is what my mom does. I've configured her Edge browser to only use iCloud as the password manager.
Only thing I hate about how it's implemented is when you open your browser, you have to enter the 6 digit code to authenticate it every single time. Its so annoying.

I may be switching back to Enpass since I need cross platform compatibility, although at the time I switched I was having trouble getting passkeys to work. Maybe things have changed by now.

Edit: I’m grandfathered in with Enpass and the move would be free for me.
I used to use Enpass back in the day, they ran a promo for lifetime pro access, which I bought. Then they came out with a "Premium" access and put everything new behind that and I was like no eff that. And left them. That rubbed me the wrong way.

I am on the launch special price and I received no such notice, but if my price is affected the unlock lifetime deal plus Apple password combo may be my next step. 1passwrd has become much worse since they abandoned the native apps.
I'm also on the launch special price (family plan) and got the email about the price increase. The email does not acknowledge that I have the launch special pricing. My plan renews before the price increase goes in to effect, so I guess I have a year to figure out if I want to migrate off 1Password or pay the higher price.

UPDATE: They sent another email saying my price is not changing:

"We're following up about the pricing update email you received yesterday regarding changes scheduled for March 27, 2026.

That message was sent to you in error.

You're currently on the Families Launch Special Plan, a legacy pricing tier, and your subscription price will not change. Your subscription cost remains the same."

Risky considering Apple’s really poor account recovery should you get locked out.
Safari has a fairly new feature that allows you to export your data, including all your passwords.

It exports it all into a ZIP file (see screenshot). Inside the ZIP file is a Passwords.csv file with your passwords.

I save that ZIP file inside an encrypted DMG file locally, then back it up in multiple places.

I’m sorry but a 33% increase on an already over priced subscription scheme feels, to me anyway, like daylight robbery.
Spent the better part of my morning setting up a self hosted Bitwarden instance. Have migrated all my 1Password items (1000+ items) and will be cancelling my subscription as soon as I’m comfortable using the new interface.
I have a few customers who share their vaults with me. I will be moving them to this self hosted platform too. They don’t care so long as it’s stored somewhere. 33% in South Africa is a big jump, considering how much of a pain purchase it already was for us here !

Wait, why is data from Apple Passwords exporting with a Safari browser data export?

(this is the sort of mess that turns off folks, like me, who use 1P and value the all in one bucket nature of the data/product/App)

I guess they are assuming most of the passwords would be from browser usage.

I agree it would have made more sense to be able to export from the Passwords app.

I use eWallet. It’s cross platform and is pay-once and use forever. No subs. €10 for the iOS app and €23 for the Mac app.

Syncs great. Over cloud or local WiFi if you prefer. Works on Windows and Android as well if you need that.
The devs have been making software for almost 30 years. I first used it on Windows Mobile back in 2006.

I can’t recommend it highly enough.

I also use Apple Passwords/keychain but there are many other things like Passport info, ID cards, bank account details, software licences, drivers. Licence etc that Apple Passwords cannot store.

That’s where eWallet comes in.

I used ewallet probably 15 years ago. Worked well back then, tbh doesn't appear to have evolved much

Wow. The most expensive password manager is now even more expensive. Maybe they shouldn’t subsidize their kolide and trelica purchases with 1Password subscriptions.

I love 1P, but convincing my clients to sign on is getting harder and harder.

Same.. just this weekend I bought a month of Proton. Just wanted to see how far they have come. Not nearly far enough to get me away from 1PW

I am using Proton Pass too in addition. But it doesn't take all the Software Licenses stored in 1Password 6. So it's no real alternative also I don't want to rely on a subscription.

It will be KeypassXC I think.

Might as well thrown them all in a bucket.. minimal organization. Same for Proton pass, they have favorites (pinned) button folders or tags. Can't use vaults since it doesn't do cross vault search
