Switched 99% of my usage to Apple Passwords, but I still use 1Password for:
1. Storing credit card info securely, in a way that I can easily access for reference. What's the best way to do this without 1Password, encrypted/locked Notes?
2. Sharing passwords as a one-off, rather than creating a "Shared Group" in Passwords. Any good alternative here?
THIS is what 1Password is great for, and I'm 100% with you on using these types of features.

BUT...
The things Apple Passwords lacks, would be SO easy to implement into the app, but it's either just Apple-laziness, like most things they do these days.

Or, they don't want to compete directly with the app makers in the space (not that Apple typically cases about stealing entire segments - unless 1Password is a worthy-enough opponent and/or has enough Mac users that Apple doesn't want to lose them). That's the only other reason I see Apple not improving Passwords, however it'll probably stay exactly as-is for another 5-10+ years at Apple's current development pace for most of their apps.

But if Apple just added a few features to their Passwords app, mainly if it had just added another type for "Secure Notes" (heck, even Keychain has this - why not Passwords?), it would be about 50% more useful than it is right now.

Other types as well, but just a place to park Secure Notes = Apple Password's biggest weakness in my opinion (But totally use the features from rweiser that were quoted and wish Passwords had it all).

I unsubscribed a while back. I’m just using Apple Passwords right now. Works good enough for me. Also there are free open source password managers out there if I really wanted to get something that’s cross platform

I ditched 1Password years ago after they went to a subscription model.
Then I paid for a Bitwarden sub and find myself using it less and less and the Apple passwords app more.

I have been with them since day one and have not found anything better, especially since I use multiple operating systems, so I am staying on board despite the price change. For me, 1Password is like the Dropbox of password managers and handles everything I store there quite well. 🤷‍♂️
Try Bitwarden, been using it for years across multiple devices and operating systems, it’s free (although it has paid extras), never let me down and afaik it hasn’t had any leak/hack either. Another good option is Proton’s one, which is a non profit org

Its now $56.50 in India !

I'm still using v6 on macOS and v7 on iOS. If they offer a lifetime license I may update, but I may move to Strongbox when Rosetta gets deprecated since they offer lifetime license.

Bitwarden is also raising their prices.

If the Passwords app would acquire the ability to keep items besides passwords, such as credit card information, scans of documents (passports, etc.), notes, I would abandon Bitwarden and go with the Passwords app.

Here we go again with the discussion about 1P and Apple Passwords and pros and cons. People need to understand everyone's use case is different. Apple passwords doesn't work cross platform. 1P is a subscription. Bitwarden also raised their prices to $50.
Your statements are similar to saying iCloud's pricing has increased to $59.99 per month.

Apple Passwords syncs across all Apple OSs and it's updated consistently. I do wish it was better implemented but as long as they are updating it, hopefully they'll continue to make it better.
Since it was released with iOS 18.. what has changed? (other than keeping passwords history)

You can use Standard Notes app which is encrypted or Apple Notes. I use Standard Notes.

They're raising the price because they have fewer and fewer users. I transferred my over 700 passwords to the Apple app. There are limitations, but it's free.

They’re raising prices because they are focusing on business customers and need to keep adding features and securing their stack for those customers.

I can’t imagine paying $4/month for something Apple offers for free. I get wanting a solution for people who use Windows computers, but for that price, just look up the password on your phone and type it on your PC.
Good news! I’m using the Apple Passwords application on my Windows 11 PC, as well. It’s working great.

Strongbox has worked well for me and I don't have to worry about a subscription. I said goodbye to 1Password when they went sub. I saw that they were focusing more and more on businesses and decided I didn't want to help fund that aspect.

Point 1 is my main reason to stick with 1Password. And the ability to add fields for related information. Also storing other registration information like frequent flyer numbers, insurance cards, software registration, lists of computer passwords, lock boxes—I probably could move those somewhere else, but it seems like a logical place. One can hope that Apple will add these features. Doesn't seem like a big lift.

I do share passwords with my wife. We're only in the Apple walled garden. Yes 1Password had gotten more irritating over the years.

Nobody likes price hikes! Yikes!

I recall I made the comparison between 1Password subs/year cost like 1 kg quality Espresso beans, when they went subscription. So mow they cost like 300-400 gram more, ok.

When Apple’s Password have evolved a bit more and can import, I may ditch 1P.
But for now I stay, out of convenience - it’s worth it to me.
1Password is so much more than passwords on all devises - all secure notes too.

This has prompted me to think of ditching 1P and moving to Apple’s Passwords.

Is there an export function in 1P, or import function in Passwords….?
or is it a case of going through every password stored individually and copying/pasting into Apple’s app?!

I have hundreds..,,,,,!!!
Yes. Google it. I did a few months ago. I think you export a CSV from 1P and import it into Passwords
