I think the contacts are snappier. There is still a bit of a delay when typing, but not nearly as long as it used to be. I hope they continue to improve this.

One thing that would be hot is if you could hold down the home button for 4 seconds to bring up favorites (or ipod control whatever you have it set for) so you can easilly dial. I mean I understand they want you to unlock the phone before calling someone, BUT I highly doubt you're going to hold the home button down for 4 seconds if it's wedged in your pocket since the button is so recessed... but who knows. LOL

Just double click the home button. Magic.

Huge difference for me. When I launch contacts it's instantly scrollable, opposed to a 15 second delay in the past. Backup also seems much faster. :D

The one thing I want from this update

SUMMARY:

So, it appears there is a concensus that the overall phone seems "SNAPPIER!!!" and Safari seems "SNAPPIER!!!"

-HOWEVER, it appears that some people are finding improved 3G reception, and some people are finding decreased 3G reception. What could possibly account for this ????????????????????????????????

Has anyone considered that maybe Apple changed the algorithm that it uses to select whether to use 3G or EDGE? If the 3G signal is too low it will switch to EDGE because EDGE will be faster than 3G when you don't have quite as much signal.

Dang I had no problems with the update BUT my sms still lags :( everything else does seem much faster.

i updated and it was smooth. update took less than 5min for me. backup was short and didn't have to do a restore. all my stuff was in the phone as well.

so far contacts are very smooth.
sms keyboard definitely has less lag (if at all).
no clue about 3G service since none is available where i live.
Edge getting full bars now vs before having only 3-4.
Safari seems the same to me (never lagged or anything for me so it's always been good)
left my bluetooth in the car so will test out listening to voicemail via bluetooth tomorrow.

MLB Video Quality

I'm not sure if this was fixed before but video download quality on 3G matches that of Wifi!! Finally! Haven't checked You Tube yet but this is definitely good.

Exactly

Lagging is not solved completely but improved dramatically

I am not waiting minutes to type 2-3 words anymore

great. I tried to update and an error occured. Then it said to restore and an error occured. Now all i have is a usb pointing to itunes. Nothing is working and i have no access to my phone.

It was the worse update for my iphone 3G..
3G doesn't work anymore in my home though i can see the 3G sign with five bars..

downloading mine now. wish me luck..:)

see you on the other side my iphone friends... 2.0.1 to go

Well I updated my pwned 2.0 3G with no problems, no need for restore or anything and here are my results:
Sms: still lags
Safari: still lags
Contacts: no lag :correction about 5 second lag:
Backing up: 45 minutes
3G reception: seems about the same

On top of that my battery life seems to be worse now, like when I first bought it before "breaking it in." I gave up my jailbroken iPhone for this? Not pleased

We have similar problems here in Switzerland. Several guys with Orange have the exact same problem.

Can anyone check YouTube to see if they changed the stream to Wifi for 3G, EDGE quality videos suck really bad? Wifi quality YouTube videos load flawlessly over 3G with the app for jailbroken iPhones, MxTube, which lets you choose the quality of the stream direct from YouTube's servers (its' the same video). They load as quickly as EDGE quality videos, look much better, and it never has to take time to buffer the video. The only reason Apple would choose to stream EDGE quality videos over 3G is because it takes up less bandwidth for ATT.

I'm having the exact same carrier update error after updating to 2.0.1.
By the way, I'm using Softbank (Japan).

2.0.1 Audiobooks (converted from MP3) over 9+ hours work properly. This was not working with many of my books in 2.0.

Please note that 2 (Major) . 0 (Minor) . 1 (Bugfix)

New features will come in minor updates. Major changes, HUGE changes (See app Store) will see a Major version notice.

Cut and Paste will be minor change imo. Please note what we all really want is stereo bluetooth!

Please learn what to expect.

I must have unplugged my iPhone seconds before this got released! Looking forward to checking it out when I get home today.

Service code reports less data.

Note: I did not check via 2.0 to see if ONLY GSM data was reported.

Anyone know way to check model/serial # of display in 2.0/2.1?

it bricked my phone !
i have not unlocked or jailbroken my phone.
just apple specs and some app store dowloads.

now i just have a black screen with the apple logo.
the screen won't even turn off and is hot !

god damn apple !

nice, downloading it now..

UPDATE
Well, unfortunately for iPod Touch users (or at least me) the 'ages-to-back-up' saga, still exists. I backed mine up earlier (Took 1hr 30 mins) and it's now backing up, I estimate it to take about 30 mins at the rate it's going.

Damn!

Takes about 20 seconds on my Touch. From startup, backup, and syncing (with no changes, of course). Tha actual Backing up bit takes about 8 seconds.

My touch is about half full nearly 9 Gigs out of 16, with a load of photos synced from Aperture, loads of podcasts , and about 30 albums of music, plus a few free itunes songs.
