And they appear to have solved the issue of app updates not agreeing with iTunes and the device, at least for me.

GPS DOES NOT WORK IN 2.0.1

if you use GPS often, do not update as it is not working in 2.0.1

i just rang the apple store regent street and they said to come into store and they will replace it

Just went to AT&T Headquarters!!

Well, since there is a big issue with the bar signal with the new update, i decided to go directly to the AT&T headquarters which is about a 1 minute drive from my office, thank God. I did this because even though after updating and getting less bars in the signal, i was having good reception and no dropped calls. But, i just wanted to check, and every time i went to the headquarters, the signal there was excellent, but now, after the 2.0.1 update, the signal was up to only 3 bars. HMMMMMM!!!! Weird!!! So, i guess this situation will have to get resolved sooner than later. It is a big issue since apparently a lot of people are getting a lot of dropped calls, and after going directly to AT&T headquarters and still getting low bars in the signal, it is apparent that the signal is not the problem with the new update, it is the phone's reception power that was tweaked, apparently to save some battery energy.

typical apple shennanigans

*sigh*

apple makes great software and great computers...

Apple makes the *WORST* software updaters in the world. It seems everytime I update iTunes (even just a minor point update) it "forgets" all about my library and everything and imports a 2nd copy of every song and just generally screws things up. Nice to see the iPhone is no different... *sigh*

I've just installed 2.0.1 and now none of my downloaded apps work. No jail break, no unlock, nothing fancy, just straight "apple approved" usage and I've been D!cked out of my apps that I paid for... Additionally, when it came back up after syncing, iTunes told me I wasn't authorized on this computer and so none of my apps would be backed up.

oh, I'm sure they'll come back, but... makes me feel really special.

keyboard lag appeared to be fixed for me... but i just got it again when texting someone. also when choosing a new person to text from the contact list, (or just navigating to the normal contacts list) i have to wait 4 seconds or so before it even scrolls. i am setup for push mail, but set on manual. the contact list i am looking at was stored locally, but of course updated by exchange. 3g iphone here

Ok, Sinal Is Getting Weird At Me!!!!

OK, now i went to my car to get something, and I get full bars in the signal. STOOOOP PLAYING WITH MY BRAAAAAIIIIINNNNNNN!!!!!!:D

after backing up my iphone 3g, i separately downloaded the update while i debated whether or not to install. after reading "snappier" a hundred times or so, i decided to bite the bullet. sure enough i got an (error -19). tried this a few more times w/ no prevail so i ejected then reconnected my 8gb. hit update and the phone began to backup (2hrs) before finally installing successfully.

the UI is noticeably "snappier". almost no lag on the keyboard and less lag contacts. for only .01 update, it isnt to shabby. cant wait for 2.1 update or PwnageTool 2.02

A fix for the crashing app issue

(see below for my complaint)

Here's what I did to fix it...

1 - Download a free app from the app store
2 - sync with iTunes so it backs up the app
3 - disconnect from the syncing computer
4 - delete the free app
5 - sync with iTunes
6 - tell it to sync the deleted app

all of a sudden, all of my other apps (non-free and free alike) have started working...

*rolls eyes*

*sigh*

GPS is working fine on mine after the update so it's not broke for everyone.

Kinda bummed

I restored my girlfriends 1st gen iPhone and the download and update took about 20 mins., it did fix all of the reported bugs with the software. So I plug in my iPhone 3G and the download is alot larger than that of the original, and the download took over 40 mins, then I got a nice error message saying my phone cannot be updated, then my phone got kicked into recovery mode and is now a brick, I've tried a restore only for it to fail and now I'm trying it again.

I don't know whats going on.

To reaffirm the point. SMS lag is still there. People posting saying it isn't, I would hazard a guess at saying, they are wrong. Get using the new firmware before you post your impressions and you will see it. Totally bummed about that.

Anyone tried a back up with all your SMS and emails deleted, your youtube history cleared and your safari cache cleared?? That seriously worked wonders for me.

I'm getting this error:
Picture 1.png

Anyone know what's up? I've restarted iTunes and restarted the computer to no avail.

So is there a definitive verdict on the 2.0.1 GPS issues?

Mine works indoors, only if am connected to wifi, or ouside. My blackberry detects the position instantaneously although it hasn’t got GPS :(

I am in UK.

This is clearly a software issue.

Well I've been using mine since about 0930 this morning (Central Time) and I have yet to see any lag in my SMS typing... Or are you talking about the lag opening up the application?

Ok... all done with the update.

Back up still seems too long. It takes about one minute from the get go to completion.

The interface has indeed sped up. There is no longer that horrible lag while typing in SMS and the lag is completely gone when clicking on the Phone app to select a contact.

HOWEVER..... I too have seemed to fallen under the dreaded umbrella of reception decline. I used to have 5 bars here in my house and now I'm lucky to be getting 3 bars. FYI This is an EDGE first gen iPhone.

I'm going to keep my 1.1.4 software for a bit longer. I just don't like the sound of 1st Gen iPhones saying that their Edge reception is worse.

I mean lag in the typing. I can definitely see how it could happen the way you are describing. When I have been texting today in general use it appears fine.

Try opening and closing a few various app store applications then try to start typing an SMS. I bet that you will manage to make it lag. I can make it start to lag deliberately.

It is definitely better with the update but the terrible lag is still there in a few instances.

backup process is depend on how many apps you have now. I have many of them. so it takes times to finish. but overall speed is improved just little. it is just me or not. 2.0.1 update seems more stable. but it still takes long time to install apps anyway. UI lagging is still existing.

wifi is much stronger than before. safari is snappier. I don't think that update didn't change much. it seems to focus on stability.

I did just now realize that Google maps thought I was still at home when I'm at work. GPS did not get a lock. I reset my phone and now it picks up my location just fine, Cell towers and GPS lock. I'll leave the phone alone and see if it accurately locates me later.

Reset your phone before going to the Apple Store. It may help.
