Where are you seeing that? I checked the sounds pref and the alarm sound lists and don't see it anywhere. Are you referring to alarms or ringtones? Does it pull it from your iPod song list? Custom ringtones have been around for awhile if that's what you're talking about.

"Has engine else noticed..." - are you sure you're in a proper state of mind? Maybe you just imagined it all.

u go into clock-alarm-( then the top left button... Manage or [ I'm from Austria, so I don't know what exactely it's called in the English version])-then the little arrow next to your alarm-sounds

U can choose from your custom ringtones!!

Sorry for "engine"- stupid iPhone T9!! :)

App Store

Attempted to install an application from the App Store and as soon as I tapped ok to confirm my password the app store crashed. The application still made it onto my springboard but refused to do anything but sit there with the dulled out icon and loading bar. With the application unable to do anything or be deleted I went back onto the app store and retried the install. This time it installed correctly but there was a blank gap left where the original attempt was made.

To fix this I restarted the phone. Deleted the correctly installed app and then reinstalled it again. This put it in it's correct place on the springboard and also removed the blank space. I will post the screenshots I took when I get a chance!

Complaining about your internet connection? What would you like anyone else to do about it?

I downloaded and upgrade both a 3G iPhone and Touch in just over 30 minutes, so its not Apples problem.

Get a better ISP.

Since the update, I've had some unexplained network activity (the little spinning icon near the signal strength). I've had it twice on the home screen where it's stayed on for a good few minutes, and in the mail app, it's happened, but it had already finished checking my mail, and was just spinning. I had to reset when it happened in mail, though I'll try a force quit of the mail app if it happens again.

Has anyone else had this, either on the new 2.0.1 or 2.0?

I did. Reset the phone and it went away. :D

So I had NetShare, and unfortunately when I backed up my iPhone before updating to 2.0.1, it either didn't fully create the backup first (which WILL NOT install properly for me), or it just messed up. Either way, I lost NetShare and had to restore, and the backup I created won't install so it is completely gone. Now if I restore back to the backup with NetShare on it it just freezes and does nothing. Any ideas on what I can do to get it back?

I am having similar problems. NetShare, and any other program that I installed directly from the iPhone's app store does not work on my phone, and doesn't show up in my application list! Now I am out quite a few apps, including netshare.. this is utter crapola.

Yesterday, I downloaded the firmware for my non 3G iPhone and it took about 17 minutes to download using my cable internet. A bit slow but iTunes servers have been getting hammered since the app store opened.

I then decided to upgrade my 3G iPhone and to my surprise, it had to download another firmware because it uses a different one than the non 3G iPhone. This time, the update had been out for a few hours and now the download was taking about an hour.

I'm sure the servers are still getting hammered. An hour was way too long to wait on a high speed cable internet let alone someone using dial up or even DSL.

Its supposed to do that and has done that on all the past versions, if you have push on it will happen more even if uninitiated.

Well, since there is a big issue with the bar signal with the new update, i decided to go directly to the AT&T headquarters which is about a 1 minute drive from my office, thank God. I did this because even though after updating and getting less bars in the signal, i was having good reception and no dropped calls. But, i just wanted to check, and every time i went to the headquarters, the signal there was excellent, but now, after the 2.0.1 update, the signal was up to only 3 bars. HMMMMMM!!!! Weird!!! So, i guess this situation will have to get resolved sooner than later. It is a big issue since apparently a lot of people are getting a lot of dropped calls, and after going directly to AT&T headquarters and still getting low bars in the signal, it is apparent that the signal is not the problem with the new update, it is the phone's reception power that was tweaked, apparently to save some battery energy.

Did they give you a definite that the phone's reception power was tweaked? Just curious because it seems like now I am dropping down to edge much more than before.

I have noticed a box with a glow-type center where the 3G indicator normally is and safari tells me there is no internet at that time even though 5 seconds later I will have 4 bars 3G.

I think I am going to return to 2.00 instead of .01
I need the better signal strength to be able to walk the corridors underground :mad:

Updated to 2.0.1 on the 1st gen iPhone, firmware installed okay, then got stuck on the "restore iPhone from backup" or "Set up as new iPhone" screen. It would restore my backup, then ask for the iPhone to be restored from a previous backup once it had rebooted from the restoration of sed backup.

Did this about 5 times. In the end, did a restore of a backup, waited for it to loop, and clicked "Set up as new iPhone" or whatever it is, and it suddenly worked.

I was looking through my saved pictures, where the (screenshots) I have taken of my device are saved, and there were a bunch of pictures that werent there before, like a picture of notebook paper, grid paper, an hangman template etc. Is this included in the update and if so what is the purpose? If you don't mind will someone check photos/saved photo roll on their device to see if these are showing up in your saved photos? The reason I ask, I got my device replaced yesterday at the apple store, and they said it was new, I was just making sure these came from the update and that I didn't get a refurb. Thanks in advance.

a nice slice of 'chill salad' is what I needed. I found that my computer was no longer authorized (maybe because I just had my motherboard replaced), and so my software could not backup on my machine, and didn't work after my update to 2.0.1. I reauthorized the machine, performed another sync, and all is working. whewww.. I thought I lost my NetShare and Level...btw, that level program rocks my socks off.

2 iPhones updated, 2 iPhones working fine. In fact, my wife's brand new iPhone had a bad Home button (VERY unresponsive--required a very hard push), but since the update, it seems to be a lot better. We'll see if it stays good or if I need to get a replacement.

This is much better! Typing lag is pretty much gone and the annoying differing ringtone volumes has been fixed. My contact list no longer waits to load either and safari does indeed feel snappier! Now let's get iPod search and the ability to select any iPod song as a ringtone directly from the phone...

"31 crashes today, 15 of which were on MobileSafari."

Bro, u must have a problem with your phone. I have found the new update to be a significant improvement over 2.0. Not one crash so far.

What programs are u using with your phone?

Did the update. First thing I tried was plugging the iPhone into my computer to see whether it would launch iTunes automatically. It still won't.

Then I tried updating an app directly from the phone. Didn't work. The progress bar completed, then it disappeared, but it still says "installing" under the icon. Then the phone spontaneously restarted, and the "installing" icon remained. I tried to sync the phone and transfer the update to iTunes. Sometimes this works, but this time I ended up having to delete the app entirely in iTunes. This is a problem I've been having since the first week I had the phone.

After that I started having problems connecting to the App Store from my phone (typing lags, spontaneous restarting, etc.). It fixed itself after the spontaneous restart.

I had planned to try downloading an entirely new app to the phone, which usually causes a problem similar to the above, but I don't have the energy right now to fix it when it inevitably fails! Maybe tomorrow.

I think he meant that while he was driving his car/bicycle, he was on his iphone surfing thru safari and crashed 31 times;hitting mailboxes and curbs and etc... 15 times looking at penthouse.com and the rest playing with the strobe app.....Or worse, he had the I Am Rich app and was holding it up to passing cars tryin to be a baller. lol

I upgraded a few hours ago. I don't see any improvements so far. Keyboard lag is still there maybe not as common. My keyboard actually lagged when I first started typing this post. My battery for some reason seems better.

Netshare has been pulled from the App store...

My 3G froze today for the first time ever....my WiFi at my house went down and I think that might have done it, not sure. I did a "soft reset" by holding the home button and sleep button until the Apple logo came up - everyone knows about this right?

tried to update to 2.01 today and an unknown error occurred. Now My ipod shows the cord and itunes and won't do anything.

No obvious change to Egde or WiFi performance here

I installed the update. I ran three speed test sites before and after. Approximately 30 minutes elapsed between Before and After. The update didn’t take that long (more like 15 mins) but I was interrupted.

Obviously there are many factors involved with internet speed tests. However, based on these simple tests I’m concluding that the update hasn’t had much impact on this particular location. Perhaps I’ll see something more notable when out and about. If I do I will post back.

Results.jpg

1. Occasionally the phone would indicate 3G 1 bar, but would quickly revert to Edge and settle on 2-3 bars.

2. During ‘Before’, the first attempted indicated "Payload file did not complete download. Your connection may not be stable." Second run was clean and 3x faster.

3. My MacPro directly connected to a port on the AEBS is today achieving 23000 kbps down / 2700 kbps up. Recently it has been as high as 31000 down / 2900 up. MacBook running WiFi achieves 12000 down / 2000 up.

Updating now. Took FOREVER to download. I started the download at 8:44PM and it was 8:50PM before it was finished. So don't complain Apple's servers are slow. It's your internet connection. :)
