im not seeing that much of a difference wiht this update, but nice and quick backups, prlly because of the apps i took off the iPhone... oh well

I installed, phone became VERY laggy which I have never experienced before. Going from app to app was very slow. Going to home screen was very slow. Eventually got the white screen of death. Phone would not reboot or anything. I had to restore. Phone worked OK after restore, but not as good as with 2.0. It's starting to get laggy again and I think I will need to restore again.

If it's possible, I will go back to 2.0 because 2.0.1 just messed my phone up. Oh yeah, my reception is WORSE, if that's even possible.

I love this device, but I've already returned one phone because of dropping calls when going from 3G to EDGE (yeah, I can turn off 3G but I don't want to and shouldn't have to - it's called iPhone 3G for a reason) and I'm getting sick of spending so much time on this. I just want to use the friggin' thing. Whatever happened to 'It Just Works?'

iPod Touch

Weirdest thing happened today. My mac isn't telling me of the 2.0.1 update for the iPod Touch so I pressumed it wasn't released yet and would be a few days behind the iPhone update. I went to update a friend's iPod touch to 2.0 today and the Windows machine I used said 2.0 was the newest firmware, but it kept erroring when I tried to upgrade (1403 unknown error it said). So I changed to a different Windows PC which then told me 2.0.1 was available for this iPod and downloaded and installed it fine. Funny thing is the iPod touch was running 1.1.4 and it didn't prompt to pay for the upgrade. The iPod has the App store etc perfectly, has Apple changed their charging scheme for the update? Have I completely slept under a rock on this? Or was it a glitch?

But, after I upgraded my friend's touch, my iMac still isn't telling me there is a 2.0.1 update for my touch, very weird.

Anyone else had this?

And you're the only one to figure that out, and all by your self, eh?

Although I will say that it's kinda funny that you're implying that the rest of the people who updated to 2.0.1 were pretty much your guinea pigs.

Yet you realize that when 2.1 comes out, you may be someone else's guinea pig..

Something to think about...

BL. (still on 2.0.)

Brad, maybe u cant read. But i did say that when 2.1 comes out, ill wait to see how it goes BEFORE downloading it. Please read the posts before u throw in your worthless 2cents.Thank you come again.

No problems here at all. I removed all my apps except for 3. I believe all the lag and erratic behavior is coming from shoddy memory management from the downloaded applications.

Just because an update comes out, doesnt mean you need to jump on the bandwagon and download it. Im sticking with my 2.0. Mine never crashes, i use the contacts app thru the phone app so i have no lag, my sms rarely ever lags, my safari is fast and never crashes and i pretty much always have 4-5 bars of 3g and it never switches to edge. Ill wait till 2.1 update and MAYBE get that one. I always let the guinea pigs(macrumors members) test stuff out before i jump ship. Heres to 2.1!!!!!!!!!

Here u go brad just incase ur too lazy to read posts. Thanks.

Apparently you didn't read enough, as I've not only read and followed the entire thread, but posted in it. And no, you didn't say that (not to pick at things, but I quoted your entire post). Anyway, you're not the only person to think of staying on 2.0 because of the partial success and troubles 2.0.1 have caused everyone. So if you're wanting to think you're special for deciding not to update, keep thinking that. Some of us already made that decision, but didn't need to grandstand about it, especially in a thread where people are complaining about it.

Obviously u didnt read all my posts in this thread. And of course i said it. smh. Why dont u go back to last page and stop pretending to be a smartbutt. Smh, kids these days.

Next Tuesday, bradl, guys please. Can you kindly keep the forums friendly.

wolfwill23, I believe there is a way. If you find a download link for the original 2.0 software (file name is: iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw) you can "option-click" on the restore button in iTunes, navigate and select the 2.0 firmware and that should restore it for you.

Hope this helps.

Update: I forgot to mention that I believe that firmware version number was the early release number, I'm not sure of the other version number, as there was some confusion of them when it was released I believe. Not meaning to confuse things there!!

When you post something important and informative, you may have people read it. So far, your track record isn't that good.

Smh, kids these days.

I actually do feel younger than I am, thank you for the compliment!

BTW. You can be my guinea pig for 2.1 anytime. ;)

Brad its ok, You're new here. And your 3 recent posts/thread starters were lame and didnt even get any replies. Smh. I just dont know about some ppl.

something i noticed is that when i get a call and im in silent mode i can now switch off silent mode while the person is still calling and the ringtone starts, in 2.0.0 if i switched the ringer when someone was calling it declined the call or turned off the buzzing

Good find.

Update

Ok have used 2.0.1 for a whole day now.

The lag is still there in SMS and contacts for sure. The firmware has definitely made a lot of fixes. Stability and responsiveness are up and many weird random bugs have been seen to.

One thing I would have said that has suffered from the update is the App Store. Maybe its just due to the volume of traffic on the iTunes servers at the moment but it definitely doesnt seem just quite as good. Minor though.

3rd party apps on the phone have taken a huge boost with 2.0.1 for me. Not a single crash and no phone reboots yet. The only problem I have had were two apps failing to start, but this fixed itself within a few minutes. I would put this down to some more memory leaks but everything seems much more balanced and stable.

The settings menu had one hiccup when it was updating the settings list for an app I had removed. To be honest I think the devs should have been made to have settings within their apps, as many did, and not allow them to integrate with the phone settings as this has only caused problems and there are no gains that I can see.

I would say my signal is possibly better but that could depend on many elements and is just a general stab in the dark!!

Hope everyone with problems manages to iron them out!!

You know,

All of these issues coming from this update makes me think that there will be a 2.0.2 or a 2.0.3 coming out, and well before 2.1 ever sees the light of day. There appear to be too issues with the bug fixes, let alone the fixes possibly introducing other bugs.

It actually reminds me of the early enterprise days of Redhat. when a new release would come out (say, 7.0), everyone who went straight to it would complain about all of the bugs. An update would come out (say, RH 7.1), and while some bugs were fixed, some new ones were introduced, but it started to become stable. When RH 7.2 came out, it was pretty much stable, and everyone who waited because of knowing how off or bad new releases are, let alone their updates, would wait until at least 2 or more updates came out.

iPhone 2.0 is paralleling it, and rather scarily. So I wouldn't be surprised if another update comes out in the not-so-distant future.

"Should have..."

*sigh* Kids these days. ;)

I restored my iPhone and now my auto brightness and GPS are working again. I still get a long lag in the Contacts app and my Yahoo mail seems to have forgotten to stay in sync with the server, let alone no push anymore. :(

2.0.1 does show some improvement for me except for the fact that when my phone is plugged in it keeps trying to sync every so often and does so but only for a second, is that happening to anybody else? I tried searching this thread for my answer but couldn't find much. Oh, my backups still take a while.

Safari can’t open the page “http://appleinsider.com/”. The error was: “unknown error” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1) Please choose Report Bugs to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message.

I get that when I try and synch my phone up to my mac via netshare, anyone help me?

Found a BUG for the volume control....

Set your iPhone switch "ON" to "vibrate" position, then lower your volume to desired level (side button - I usually lower it for alarm purposes). Turn "vibrate" switch back to "OFF" position and then turn volume up via side button (all the way up if desired - as I do). Even though it visually shows you the volume going up (floating screen icon) you can go into Settings -> Sounds and check the "MASTER" volume will actually remain on the "lower" end position you had originally turned it to when you set the "vibrate" switch to the "ON" position.

A tad odd to say the least. :apple:

Should of...Should have.... Both work. But thanks anyways.

Hmmm....thanks for this but tried and did not work. Can't select any of the files in the folder. Any ideas?
