does anyone know if the GPS is emergency services enabled? So 911 can locate you. Other phones have the ability to turn that on or off. I don't see that here on the iPhone.

I think its mobile me. My work email pushes fine. Mobile me still hasn't received an email from another account for 5 minutes

I did this upgrade and here is what I see:

No more lags in typing
Brings up pages faster (even after 24 hrs later)
Safari is much faster
My GPS did stop working, I did the 3G turn off and on which fixed it.
Contacts browsing, etc are much faster now.

The fix definitely helped the phone. Wish it helped my phone from dropping calls so much though.

So it didn't fix the lag ?

It was just the reboot that made it seem as though the lag had gone ?

I am definately getting "No Service" way more than i used to. I live in the Washington DC/Virginia/MD area, so i should be able to get a signal. GPS is also slower at finding me it seems most of the time, but maybe because i keep losing signal.

i'd say the gps is a little off, but not bad. Im in my bedroom in the closest house, not in the backyard.
it used to show me inside the house - so i guess the update made it a little wacked.

While driving on a highway it often shows me a few hundred yards off the road

So did the update when it first came out and it restarted liked it was supposed to. For the first day everything seemed better, however today the Contacts lag is back and now when I hit the Settings button, the time to load the program is SLOOOOOOOOW.

Oh, GPS a problem....

Good job Apple.

Old Accessories won't charge

I have an older Belkin car-charger that has the line-out at the base. It used to work fine and allow me to both charge and play music through the line-out. IT would just prompt me to enter Airport mode (which I could decline). Today I noticed that I could still use line-out; however, charging is no longer supported through the device. The new "airport mode" prompt even states that charging is not supported through this accessory.

So I guess I'll need to upgrade some of my accessories now.

I take it you are using an Iphone 3G??? The 3G dropped the firewire charging mode and only supports USB now.

Video playback Widescreen vs portrait

This isn't 2.0.0 vs 2.0.1 related...but interesting...

If you put videos into a PLAYLIST and play the PLAYLIST from the iPod app on the iPhone, videos will play in portrait mode AND widescreen depending on the rotation of your iPhone.

If you just play vides from the VIDEOS list from the iPod app on the iPhone, then videos will only play in widescreen.

Just an observation. Seems like a "bug" or "lack of a feature". Occurs in 2.0.0 and 2.0.1. I have an iPhone 8g Original. Will test on my wife's 3G 16g white tonight.

As far as 2.0.1, seems more stable for me, as most of these posts say. Lags less, apps not crashing, etc.

I had a weird issue yesterday where I had a video on pause (Llyod & Lil Wayne's new one), the phone auto-locked like it was supposed to after 1 minute or so, and a call came in - the vibrator vibrated instead of playing the phone ring (the switch on the side was up to allow sounds). It vibrated at least 12 times, then did a very long vibrate and then stopped. Hasn't ever happened before, hasn't happened since. Not sure if it's 2.0.1 related or not.

American Ideology rubbing off on others

I thought the update itself was pretty clear when it said it was only for 'Bug Fixes'.

Some people are stuck on this warped theory that it is everyone else's fault but theirs!!! Seems like American ideology is spreading like a disease....

I think I will skip this one and wait for the 2.1.

Just because an update comes out, doesnt mean you need to jump on the bandwagon and download it. Im sticking with my 2.0. Mine never crashes, i use the contacts app thru the phone app so i have no lag, my sms rarely ever lags, my safari is fast and never crashes and i pretty much always have 4-5 bars of 3g and it never switches to edge. Ill wait till 2.1 update and MAYBE get that one. I always let the guinea pigs(macrumors members) test stuff out before i jump ship. Heres to 2.1!!!!!!!!!

Wholeheartedly Agree

Meh, I've always looked at bars as a guideline. I think too many people treat them as gospel.

There have been places where I've had reception with zero bars, and zero reception with a few bars.

I wholeheartedly agree, also people seem to have this weird idea that number bars is linked to 3g/edge modes.......those bars are ONLY telling how much signal strength between you and the cell tower. 3g and edge modes DOES signal strength is not measured by the bars next to it....that only applies to cell signal.

Myths that Cellphone Personal Spread

I can confirm that this will not resolve your issue... a SIM card has nothing to do with signal reception.

I wish teh dang cellphone operators would stop spreading myths.......

But have you uploaded any new apps to your iphone THEN try syncing after they were installed?

thx.

I never got this, phone 1 week old. It backed up in 4 seconds and I have a lot of apps. pod cast on there.

So this isn't the BIG 2.1 update with all the new GPS, when is that due.

With regard to 3G,
1 LINE = 1300~1400 or 140K per second. 1 line gets a bum wrap
And I finally see the point of turning if of it your not online or in an earthquake (WE WERE) as the 2.5 EDGE was jammed, 3G was wide open, able to make calls fine....

SECOND PICTURE
10+ hours of usage, internet, ipod, photo's, maps, talk, stopwatch runnin
3G off, today am 3G on to see the difference.

STILL trying to figure out best way to charge, some say its like a laptop, (APPLE DISCUSSIONS), others say wait until 20% warning comes on (and did that and got the 10+ hours), but my thinking after reading apple iphone battery page is its like a laptop....

20%, then charge 20%, then charge 20%, then charge 20%, then charge 20%, then charge = 100% = 1 CYCLE = we get 400 Cycles.

Still seems to be no write or wrong answer....

If am getting FAST SPEEDS with 3G one bar, wonder how much faster it would be, if any, with FIVE bars.

Personally, I don't think its the phone anymore (used to think underpowered antenna, could be) but now with one bar and fast speeds, maybe AT&T turned it up more. Used a AT&T iPhone, 1st GEN that was tweaked and very fast (friend who works for them) so who knows,

THOUGHTS?

.....and any bricked phones with this update? I take it this is not the update we have all been waiting for, better GPS, snappier, but read things are snappier, no crashes for me since un-install APPS then re synch with iTUNES, haven't installed 2.01.

So wondering the benefits - -still reading.

BEST :apple: :D :apple:

Keep Airplane Mode off during the update

If you have airplane mode on, which I usually do during syncing to keep calls from cancelling the sync, it will not activate the phone after updating. You will be given an error and the phone won't do anything but show the emergency calling screen. If this happens, dial a number on the emergency screen, doesn't matter what, and it will ask you to inactivate airplane mode. Say yes, and with cell signal back, restart the phone, and plug it back into your computer. It should work out this time, and quickly.

Otherwise, the update has worked fine, but I haven't noticed anything very different yet.

The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (6).

ok, after ATTEMPTING to install, it crapped out towards end the of installation. It's in recovery mode.

Restarted my Mac. Received this error "The file 'iTunes Libray' does not appear to be a valid iTunes library file. iTunes has attempted to recover your iTunes libray and renamed this file to 'iTunes Library (Damaged 3".

Dude check your USB ports and cables

if i upgraded my 1st generation iphone to 2.0.1 can i unlock it?... would i have to downgrade back to 2.0 and use the pwnage tool? or is that out of the question now?

For everyone with problems after 2.01, try shutting down and restarting the phone. Try turning off then on the 3G and GPS settings. Try re-syncing the phone a few times, and make sure you have the very latest iTunes.

I still get contacts lag sometimes but a phone reboot fixes it, at least for a while. No this is not acceptable but it works for now. IMO 2.01 helped with a memory leak or something but did not totally fix the problem. I am very happy though that Safari and the overall UI is definitely faster. But no, not all the bugs are squashed just yet.

Last night I upgraded my wife’s 1G iPhone, no problems. Works nice, less lag time.

Then tried to upgrade my 3G, then is crashed and went into recovery mode. Then I got the evil box (like Andrew0) that iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred. Did a hard restart (holding home & on/off button) and tried it again. After doing this 3x and getting the same scary message, it started to work. It took over an hour to come-back. I don’t know how long, as I started drinking Guinness from my tap and stopped caring ;) Then this morning, it was done with the restore and I didn’t lose anything. I actually gained all of the silly apps my wife downloaded. The only thing that turned off was WiFi & locations. Once I turned the WiFi back-on, I actually had all 3 bars (where the old iphone has two).

Upgraded first gen... no problem. Took about 20 minutes total time including download.

I can say the contacts is alot more smooth and is alot faster then what it previously was on my phone.
