Wi-Fi No Wi-Fi greyed out after update. Bluetooth Unavailable greyed out as well.

Just a heads up that my iPhone displays "No Wi-Fi" greyed out in the Wi-Fi settings button after the update. My Bluetooth settings button is also greyed out and reads "Unavailable". Called Canadian Apple support and that tech says he got 1 other call this morning with the exact problem. Reset doesn't work. Total restore doesn't work. He says they have to treat it like a hardware failure and service the iPhone. But he thinks it screams of a software problem that he hopes gets fixed. Told me he wonders how many will be effected.

For those of you with GPS issues try this, go into settings and turn off your 3G. Then try your GPS. Mine wasn't working at first now it works fine. Plus afterwards turning 3G back on it will continue to work.

Not much of a difference...

I do not notice much of a difference in performance, but it does seem more stable; and I DO NOTICE BETTER BATTERY LIFE SPAN!!!!

Before, it seems like the battery meter was leaking; but now it seems to hold a charge better..

So I'm happy so far!

USB Port

I also hit error 6 and 9 during the update. I keep reading how people say that it is the USB cord, yet after 3 different USB cords, it still was not working. The only thing that saved me was doing a restore on my old xp computer, then once it hit the itunes + plug screen i moved it back to my main vista computer.

I think it will just blame vista on it lol....

Good luck to those of you that are trying to get back form a error 6 or 9 crash!

Could have been the USB port too

Better Battery Life

Night and Day difference. Can make it through a whole day without wondering which outlet I have to run to at lunch.

"Has engine else noticed..." - are you sure you're in a proper state of mind? Maybe you just imagined it all.[/QUOTE]

No, he's just typing on his iPhone. I have MANY word guess/keyboard errors still on mine also. Love the phone, but hate the virtual keyboard and wrong word guesses. If you don't have perfect eyesight- the errors get recorded and come back over and over again...

I thought that the SMS typing lag issue was fixed, but apparently not. I think everyone thought it was fixed because the phone reset once it finished installing the update. After 24 hrs of use, the lag has returned. I just reset the phone and guess what, lag is gone. Sigh, maybe in 2.02 :(

I had the same thing happen. I re synched a couple of times. The third time it decided to back me up in 10 seconds and synch. That one got the rest of whatever was missing on the 2-2.01 update. Now it works like a charm. In fact fast contacts, better battery life and actually all of my apps work flawlessly (not like before) I believe your entire update did not make it across the wire and you need to synch the rest over. It worked for me - best of luck!

well i updated to 2.0.1 last night and it was a heck of a journey today. its crashed so many times, iv seen the apple logo more than i want to see (and i love the bloody thing!), backing up took even LONGER than it did before the 2.0.1 software. So i eventually restored the phone.

after a good hour with it so far, it seems that all is well. backing is is much quicker. the phone overall seems "snappier" as you folks say.

I am still seeing the issues with the lagging sms text which was my biggest issue before! But, the phone seems way more stable now.

question: when i install an app from the phone, is it supposed to take a ridiculous amount of time? the progress bar will be about 100, but it will sit there for like 5 min. maybe longer..

2.01 seems more stable to me than 2.0. On 2.0, my phone would sometimes turn itself off while inside my pocket. Has not happened thus far.

Also, I've found that if contacts is lagging, holding down the home button to force quit it and re-opening it makes the lag go away. This would indicate (imho) that the contacts app has a memory leak that is impacting performance.

the same goes for the sms app

She's a brick...

Error 6...have read through forums...

Could have been the USB port too
I have a 10-month old macbook, less-than-two wk old iPhone 3G. No previous problems with syncing, backups, charging, apps, or anything besides the usual lag complaints with the iPhone, or doing anything with either USB port on the mac. Only have the one USB cable that came with the phone, no others to try (I don't think the cable is the same as my 1G nano cable). Connecting directly, no hubs. Am running latest versions of Leopard & iTunes. Tried to install update and got error 6 at least 6 times now trying repeatedly to restore by turning iphone off and back on till I see the lovely USB ->>iTunes picture.

Restarted computer, no luck. Noticed my macbook was hot. Left it for an hour or so in sleep mode to cool off. Tried again. The "Preparing iPhone for restore" message stayed up longer the first time before getting unknown error 6 again...and again.

Called customer support on boyfriend's phone, but it is early AM, so no one to talk to until "regular business hrs."

EEEEEEEUUUUUUUUUURRGGHH:mad::mad:

Is there anything left to try before hauling my computer and phone into an Apple store? Is there a way to try re-downloading the update? But it doesn't even get to the update phase... Like I didn't have enough to do tomorrow. And now I have no phone. Hopefully everything was backed up and can eventually be restored once this brick gets fixed? iPhone backups appeared to work smoothly and quickly pre-update-disaster. Whole computer is backed up on a Time Capsule for good measure...Thanks for letting me vent and beg for help in case anyone has other ideas...

After having a pretty flawless experience with 2.0 my switch has caused some problems.

It is a little quicker in all of the mentioned areas but two problems now exist.

1. GPS won't connect indoors like it did b4 even with wifi. I tried turning it off and on but no go.

2. It seems to jump to EDGE when it never did before. It seems to do it when it doesn't need to. I always had a 3G connection whether it was one bar or five and got good speeds. Now it switches to EDGE and I wish it wouldn't.

Guess i'll wait till the next update.

I love how when I went to update my iPod Touch how it shoved MobileMe in my face and made me manually refuse to accept their 'free offer'. Is it really too much to ask Apple to keep their advertisements out of my iPod firmware upgrade pages in iTunes??? Advertise in the store section Apple, not my iPod page.

Other than that, the upgrade went smoothly, although I didn't have any problems with 2.0 so far but then I only have a half dozen apps on it anyway.

Mine works indoors, only if am connected to wifi, or ouside. My blackberry detects the position instantaneously although it hasn’t got GPS :(

I am in UK.

This is clearly a software issue.

I am also in the UK and I find the opposite. If I am in WiFi, it will sit there for a long while trying to locate (although I am inside at the time) so that is fair enough (no GPS signal). However as soon as I go outside I get a lock very quickly. It was tracking me on the overground tube sections really well yesterday - within metres.

Maybe a bit snappier for me... but now my terrible 3G signal went from 1 to 2 bars in my house to NO SIGNAL. I have tried rebooting the phone with no success. I have to turn off 3G to get it to connect to Edge... which is great at 5 bars.

Hmmm... maybe a trip to the Apple Store.

i'd say the gps is a little off, but not bad. Im in my bedroom in the closest house, not in the backyard.
it used to show me inside the house - so i guess the update made it a little wacked.

I experience this when I'm inside, but near a window. On 2.0. I would expect it to be normal because the reception to the gps-satellite "on the other side of the window" would be better, than the ones above my roof and so on.

Could someone who posts on discussions.apple.com try posting with their iPhone, and see if the keyboard lags?

It's not unbearably bad, in fact if you type around 2 letters a second it's fine, but if you try to type fast it can get pretty bad. It works flawlessly on the wifes iPod Touch with 1.x.

Cheers
Neil

The big blue shaded disc around the GPS pin indicates that you don't have a clear satellite lock and represents the approximate error in the position it is currently giving you. Could just simply be slightly different satellite locations than when you last tried and/or atmospheric conditions affecting the satellite signals - not necessarily something that 2.0.1 did. When you have a proper GPS lock the shaded blue disc should vanish and you will be left with just the pulsing blue pin which should be accurate to within a few metres.

I guess you do not understand error. If you are still in the blue circle then you are still in the location solutions confidence zone. So the center has moved, you are still in the circle. It will again the next time you check 10 minutes from now. That is because your position is determined from a constellation of 24+ satellites orbiting the earth every 6 hours. Thus, satellites are always in a different configuration when locating you. If you are in your bedroom, then only a few of the satellite signals are getting to you too, probably mostly scattered reflectors from a window.

Well, the update seems to have caused more issues for me than it fixed. Since the update, I drop my wifi connection occasionally, though I'm sitting ten feet from the router. My GPS is gone, even with a clear view of the sky. A couple of apps crashed since the update. My screen won't autodim after cycling the power. None of my email pushes anymore. I am going to try a restore, but I'm disappointed by the lack of details and the general issues I'm having since the update.
