Good news, seems better than January update, liking the scientific calculator.

Although, SPOILERS? what about the people waiting?

But in JULY!!!!! come on.... dont make me get it off a torrent.....
It is nice being $10, though

Definitely, especially when you consider what you're getting compared to the January update.
Though I feel that the ol' Touch may have to be sold, that 3G iPhone looks mighty sweet.

I am most likely going to sell the ipod, and get a 3G iphone, no mem loss, and il break even, cancel the contract so i dont have to pay any, and off i go....

Can you just cancel an existing contract? I've never tried that. How does it work? I always thought with Verizon there was an early termination fee.

2.0 Price

:apple: Deffo got the price right!

What is $9.99 in GBP?

No 2.0 for Touch..Gutted!

But wouldn't it get released on the release day of 3G iPhone?

As they will ship with 2.0thus itunes needing to update to 7.7?

Well...if this was just for "can buy apps," I'd be mad. But Office doc support alone is worth $10, AND is sufficiently "beyond what I thought it could do when I bought it" that I don't mind, even if we do have to pay and iPhone people don't.

It's about 5.1 quid, but you'll have to add VAT onto that.

Yeah, the document support is pretty good. Mobile me is also worth the $10 to me seeing as I'm already a .mac member.

We only think $9.99 is nice because it's not $20. Remember how mad a $5 upgrade made you? Stevie is going to make his money on the apps we buy. NO reason at all he had to gouge us for more than one cent other than greed.

For what it's worth, I'm on my 4th major firmware update for my Samsung P2. This one adds new bluetooth gameplay between devices, Voice recording, Text to speech playback with the text showing like lyrics do, a password lock, and an option for the hold button to choose between locking the whole device or just locking out the touch screen. There has been no charge whatsoever for any of these updates, and each has added new functionality to the P2.

I dont ever recall paying for any windows XP service pack, which no doubt took far more work than 'upgrading' the ipod with

- scientific calculator (what a complex app, and it shipped with a crap caluculator anyways, CE button plz)
- Run third party apps (which seem to work fine without any 'updates' with the installer app.)
-View MS office files

then we have the iphone only features that wont even effect touch owners.

this doesnt even deserve a '2.0' title, its more like a patch that should've come out a month after release, with contact searching, mass message control, etc

Don't even try to compare this to xp. It needed those service packs to work properly and as advertised. And, it didn't add any new features... It just made the OS work in a stable condition.

As for not deserving the title of 2.0, that's completely subjective and many on this board would disagree on that one.

I understand your frustration with iPhone users getting it for free, but you're getting more than just the three things that you mentioned above. If you don't think that it's worth it, just don't buy it. That's the glory of free economics.

Needing it wasnt my point, its the amount of work put into it. 2.0 gives very little as far as actual work on their end goes.

the only 2.0 deserving thing here is the app store, and i've had an 'app store' since it was first jailbroken. I didnt pay for any updates, and i didnt get any updates at all, installer downloaded apps work just fine without any software updates, which makes me want to know what all of apple's 'hard work' for 2.0 went into.

What im really sick of is early adopters getting screwed at every turn. All new ipods shipped will doubtless come with both 2.0 and the iPhone app pack.

If you can't buy apps from AppStore without paying $9.99 for the 2.0 update, I think they are hurting the AppStore sales.

I agree. Apple has a wrong policy in this. If they would separate the updates from extra apps, things would be more acceptable.

If they want to charge users for extra apps, then they should release the basic updates for free (for everybody) and charge for the extra apps (for everybody, not just early adopters)
