I don't know too many audio players that get free updates that allow apps to be installed. There is nothing wrong with charging for your work.

huh? You're paying for a software update (notice the difference between update and upgrade) that allows you to BUY programs. It's like charging you to enter the Apple store simply because they built a new one. Does no one else see the humor in this? I might actually try this with my friends: "sure you can buy a soda from me, but first you have to buy the rights to buy that soda from me". Good stuff.

What im really sick of is early adopters getting screwed at every turn. All new ipods shipped will doubtless come with both 2.0 and the iPhone app pack.
So are "early adopters" of the iPhone getting screwed when they get AT&T bills in the mail. $10 of that bill goes to Apple, which is more than your upgrade fees. They've dropped the price on the iPhone by $400 in a year. That must be extreme screwage.

I agree. Apple has a wrong policy in this. If they would separate the updates from extra apps, things would be more acceptable.

If they want to charge users for extra apps, then they should release the basic updates for free (for everybody) and charge for the extra apps (for everybody, not just early adopters)
That's what they did in 1.1.3. Fix the bugs for free, new features cost extra. I fail to see any problem with this.

Actually, it's you who doesn't know the difference. Go look up "update" and "upgrade" in a dictionary and you will see that this truly is an upgrade.

I didnt buy an iphone, and as such my touch has no data plan, or phone service, these are two different products here.

The 2nd gen 8GB iPhone is cheaper than the 8GB Touch! And if a Touch user wants 2.0 you have to pay Apple for it, while all iPhone users get it for free.

I seriously wish I had never purchased an iPod Touch.

some of you get so emo over an mp3 player and $10 that it's pretty sad

Well, from reading your posts, it seems that when you pay Apple, you're getting screwed. It doesn't matter which product you own.

It's cheaper due to a subsidy. And now the service is $15 more expensive each month.

IMHO, I dont see why people are complaining about the cost..its 9.95 people! Jeez, you act like you cant shell out 9 dollars and 95 cents for an update

come on, people! get over it. $9.95 is way cheaper than I expected. plus, it's just one time payment. unlikely iphone, you don't have to pay more with plan. new iphone 3G users will pay more than before because AT&T raised normal fee $10 more. so total you are ended up to $30 which you have to pay more. that's why any update for iphone is free. $199, $299 is sound cheaper. but it's only with two year contract. otherwise you will pay more. well, now it seems to be impossible for getting unlocking new iphone because it's only activating at store. not any other else. it said that 10-12 minutes to activate for every phone purchaser. so I just wonder how many people will get a line in there July 11th. it will take all day or not enough.

iPhone users also have to pay a 2-year minimum 60$ bill.

Seriously, it's 10 bucks guys. Get over it. Yeah, I don't like it either; I'll still pay for the upgrade though.

Damn!

I though the release of 3G iPhone was today but i only just realised i'm a month too early!

So no 2.0 Update or iTunes 7.7 for me or my Touch :(

How Much do you think the new update cost?
-$20?
I want to be ready for the June 9th Keynote, so when it hits the iTunes Store i can get it But i need to know how large of an iTunes Card To Buy?
Will This just be another $20 or More?:apple:

I'm sure i heard him say for the iPhone, the update is free. For the iPod Touch it would be $9.95.

I know. You are getting a big upgrade in your device for a lousy 10 bucks. Would you guys prefer they come out with a NEW iPod Touch with these features and you'll have to buy another $400 device? The Touch deal is still so much better than the insane monthly fees to own a iPhone. I'm talking about the 3G iPhone.

Waiting for upgrade before buying iTouch?

What about NEW iPod Touch buyers? Will they have to pay the ~$10 to upgrade to iPhone 2.0 after its released or will Apply include it for free in all subsequent iPod Touch's?

I want to get an iTouch, but I don't know if I should wait until iPhone 2.0 is released... Please help! :)

if you buy an iphone now, you will have to pay the upgrade price, if you wait for the app store to be released, and buy directly from apple, you dont have to, if you dont buy directly from apple, lets say you buy from amazon, then you may get an inventory selection, which wouldn't have the upgrade, but they may knock the price down by 10 bucks like the did for the january update

You mean the iPod Touch right? They're already saying that they're going to charge $10 to upgrade the applications for the iPod Touch:

From their website: *Access to the App Store requires the iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod touch, sold separately.

I'm guessing that if I wait until July 11, whether the new apps will be included if I buy a new iPod Touch... anyone agree?

i wonder if he lit some candles and slit his wrists after posting that.

Apple loves people like you. I bet you also paid the $20 for the new apps last time.

It is not the money so much as it is the point. Apple changes things to fast to make more money from people, but I guess that is just business. Apple used to be different, now it is clear they are the same as any other corporation.

How about they just make their products right the first time before releasing them. Oh wait I forgot, it is the greed factor.

Without greed factor the majority of buisnesses you see today wouldn't be here.
