I am really enjoying my M2 Air a few weeks in. I went for it for my reasons which are not important. Although everyone is correct in that it is not value for money within the current line-up.

I have the 16GB/1TB model. Spec for spec I could have got an M1 Air for a few hundred less or I could have got an MBP 14 for slightly more. Choices right.

But I fully expect when the new 14/16 models arrive their price is going to show that the M2 MBA is not that bad in terms of value going forward if you want the latest and greatest. They are going to hike prices across the board, we or they are in a transition period that makes the M2 Air appear like poor value today, but not for long.
You are right - prices not coming down anytime soon, if ever.

The problem with the M2 Air is it’s not worth the price jump over the M1 Air. It has a few minor shortcomings that should have been addressed before it was introduced, but whatever advantages it has are not worth the price disparity. It’s value would have been much better if they had corrected its missteps before release and it had simply replaced the M1 Air at the same price point.

The only real advantages I see the M2 Air having are a slightly bigger display and the availability of 24GB RAM.

And like so many others have said the base storage should be 512GB.

haha great. except... not everyone will agree with that (i don't).

i like the M2 design better. the screen, the speed. the return of the magsafe adapter (and having 2 open ports). the keyboard. the speakers.

either way, i returned an M1 air for it, despite the difference in cost. and have NO regrets.

not everyone bases the 'value' of something based on a lower cost (ironically, we tend to think of the more expensive things as having greater value).

sometimes people just buy... what they want. i see no 'missteps'. but i respect your right to your opinion.

I also have no regrets with my M2 MacBook Air. I got silver because I was concerned about the fingerprints and I also love the silver MacBook look. For me it was well worth the money I paid!

I only found one thing I dislike about it. The "power button" is every key... Why Apple couldn't just keep it to one button IDK but it's just a minor annoyance. Maybe some people appreciate being able to power on their MacBook with the space bar.

it would be nice to have a “cleanup“ mode where you can lock the keyboard to allow it to be wiped clean without activating keys.

I don’t. It’s a very annoying and unnecessary feature.

They could make a special key on the touch bar…

Never mind.

figured out you can download an app like pristine screen though it doesn't work for function keys... but yeah, not a fan of the any key powering it on thing

The problem is inflation causing costs to rise.

Also the bigger screen and better keyboard, M2 improvements etc…

What makes you think these should all be the same price as their predecessors, especially in today’s environment?

No-one is happy about it. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth it!

its not that hard lol
you don't get that our brains don't all see the world the same way? and instead of clarifying, you need to make a game of it?

anyway, am moving on... it's boring now

EDIT: if you're referencing the iphone... what's the point? what does an iphone have to do with a macbook? that explanation would be interesting to hear... 🤔

A base air 2 is $120 less than a 13 max 256gb here, wait till iP14 will be another $200AUD likely, prices are getting nuts.

a base air 2 is $200 less than this expresso maker 100mm capacity. you're right, prices are getting nuts.

For those of you having owned the 14" Pro. Is it noticeably heavier of thicker than the Air M2? (I hope so). I haven't got to try the new Pro, but changed my 13" Pro for an MBA M2, 8 GHz CPU/10 GHZ GPU, 16GB/512GB. And I love it. The most important thing for me is that it's light and portable.

Although I started wondering if I was doing something stupid when I didn't order the Pro 14" yesterday when it was a 15% discount. I have to return the Air I have now and wait for another one that won't be coming before the end of September. The reason? The one I'm getting was on a 20% discount.
So I panicked yesterday and ordered a base model MBA M1 to keep in the mean time. Hope I did the right thing and that I won't regret not buying the Pro. Suspected that it was too big and heavy.
Ah... Life of a digital nomad 🙄
