Sitting next to that G5, the 23" display seems positively puny! ;)

While i'm waiting on my 23" display to come...

Can anyone suggest sites where I can find some really crisp scenic shots that I can use as desktop pics. Like the Golden Gate shot or some mountains..etc.

Thanks

@Bhennies - are you sorry you didn't get the 20" instead? ;)
hell no! The 20" is too much smaller than the 23" in my opinion. Maybe it's just psychological, but it really looks small to me- almost like a 17". The quality of the screen is better on the 23" as well (I had them side to side at the Apple store today).

By the way, my powerbook screen really looks like S*** compared to this one- it's just amazing...I'm speechless. Apple really came through on this one.

Hey man, www.istockphoto.com has a LOT of high res pictures that are REALLY nice, but you have to pay for them. It's worth it though because the photographers end up getting a good amount of the money and the site only takes for running costs.

Also I have a bunch of nice nature shots that I could send you over IM or something...

Stuck Pixels Anyone?

Hello everyone,

I am thinking about purchasing the 23" from the Apple store but I just wanted to know if anyone received one with dead/stuck pixels? I've read the forum on MacNN and nobody mentioned anything about having a stuck/dead pixel. Thanks for your input! :)

Very nice setup!

Also a picture of my little G3 (G4 550 now) powering a 17 inch. I can't wait for my 2.5 G5 plus 6800 card!

PS 16ms seems great for games! Far Cry and Jedi Knight II on mostly highest settings play greaT!!

None here. :p

oohhhh, I want one of those displays. Time to start saving.... I love the pics, they look really nice, although it pays to actually see one in person.

Beautiful

Anyone Else Have Sparkling 23" Displays?

Black areas on my screen get random sparkles of white that look like snow.
Running Pixel Check to get a full black screen makes it easy to see. It doesn't happen to the NEC 21" monitor that I have. Do your 23" CDs display this behavior?

-Dan

I got a new 23" two days ago - no stuck pixels and no sparkles here, though there were some imperfections in the plastic moulding on the sides (but you can't see it looking front on, so I will let it slide)

For those who don't know, the Alu displays have white plastic up the left and right sides.

What is your display connected to? I'm running mine on a 1.25 GHz PB with the 64MB ATI card while waiting for my G5.

Is the NEC monitor also DVI and connected to the same port? If so, I'd be suspect of some kind of problem with the new display and would talk to Apple. No such problems here, connected to a PowerBook.

Yeah, the NEC connected to the same DVI port. I did contact AppleCare and they recommended either taking the machine to a service center to run a diagnostic or connecting to another computer to see if the sparkle persists.

Just got my display

So, I just got my 20" display. Ordered it on 7/28 and got it today. It shipped yesterday fedex ground. So far it looks great....nice to have all the desk real estate.

Anyway, it looks like the panel isn't aimed correctly. That is, to get the screen facing forward correctly, I have to turn it a bit to the right. Like its about 1-3 degrees off axis. I can't tell if the base is bent or if its the panel. Has anyone else encountered this? Its not a huge deal, since the monitor itself works great. But for the bucks I spent, I'm wondering. Anyway, after this post, I'm going to fire up DiabloII and C&C generals to check out the refresh.

I picked up a 23" (my first Apple display) and have noticed that it gets hot pretty quick. Is this normal? Since it's aluminum I figured it was, but now I'm starting to wonder.

Mine gets warm on top and less warm on the back; nothing I would describe as hot. The older Cinema Displays had vents. These don't so they're bound to get a little warm.

If you have an Apple Store close, I personally would take it in to have it checked. There could have been some damage in packing or shipping. Something brand new shouldn't have a major problem.

My 17" Cinema Display feels cool. Don't even notice any warmth coming out of the vent.

Good news, I hope...

I originally had a 8/16 ship date for my 23", but it shipped today to be delivered by Monday.

I'm excited although I still need to wait for the 2.5 PM to arrive.

Honestly, all I care about is no dead pixels. Fingers. crossed...

23" just shipped in the UK

I've been thinking about getting a widescreen flat panel for my rev b 2x1.8G5 for a couple of months, and the release of the new apple displays prompted me to take thorough look at the available options - particularly the Sony 234, the HP 2335, BenQ 231w, and the new Apple 23. I eventually decided on the BenQ - not as good quality as the Apple, and definitely not as pretty, but decent-looking and practical - a secondary input on the panel is handy for a PC I need to keep around for work. The Sony and HP seem to cost a fortune in the UK, while the BenQ was listed by a reasonable number of stores and was available for about £1280 (the Apple 23 is £1549).

So four weeks ago I ordered the BenQ from savastore.co.uk and started waiting the ten days estimated shipping delay. And watched the shipping date slip. And slip.

And slip some more.

After three weeks of this, I grew tired of living in eternal slippage purgatory (my colleagues, too, were growing weary of my constant whining), cancelled the BenQ, and ordered the Al 23" from Apple over the 'phone. Double-checked the 1 year AppleCare limitation with the sales line since it was being purchased on its own, but confirmed that there was reasonable post warranty servicing available.

Somehow, without asking for it, I got a £70 discount from the sales guy. If anyway asks, Brian at the Cork Apple telesales centre is a very nice man. Their systems were quoting 8-10 working days build time. So: ordered 9am Tuesday 3rd August. Estimated shipping date in the online order status was Friday 13 August. Got the shipping email at 7am this morning, Saturday 7th. A fine thing to wake up to. :D

Four days despatch delay for a piece of aluminium near perfection, after over three weeks of constant slip of a competing product that seems unavailable in the UK. The reduction in stress alone is almost worth the extra cost. Just got to wait until TNT put it in my hands now.

"Sparkles" problem

I posted about the problem of little specks on a black background earlier with my new 23" and I see another poster has this problem. On Sunday 1st August I took my 23" and my PB 15 down to the Apple Store so they could see the problem. (I had earlier called AppleCare and they said I would have to have the problem verified at an Apple authorized repair center.)

Anyways, I demonstrated the sparkling pixels on a black background for them and we tried running the 23" off of other PBs in the store as well as G5s in the store, and then we connected my PB 15 to one of the 23" displays in the store, in order to try and figure out whether it was the PB 15 or the 23". My 23" didn't have the sparkles on a G5 or on in-store Powerbooks so it was deemed that my PB 15 had a "noisy" video-system or DVI connector problem and I left it there to have it shipped off for repair. HOWEVER, my PB 15 strangely seemed to run the in-store 23" without the sparkles (it only had the sparkles on my 23"). The Apple Store guy that watched this with me didn't seem to say too much about it.

I know this doesn't make sense; how can the problem only happen when my particular PB 15 and 23" are used together? It just seems to be one of those weird things. Anyways, I was told to bring my 23" back into the store when my PB 15 arrives back from its repairs and we'll take a look then if the sparkles are still there.
