Well, if you had purchased at a store, I'd say go swap it and it shouldn't be a big deal. I'd just start by calling Apple and explaining the problem. I don't know if they will make you send yours in first or send you a replacement and then let you send yours in. I do think that Apple tries to make things right when there is a problem.

Hope so too, but the order process of my dual 2.5 makes me fear the worsts :((

I know the 2.5 shipping has been less than perfect, but I'd be shocked if they don't replace your monitor.

just found this :
How can I tell if my Display needs service?
Visit our Displays support site for helpful troubleshooting information. If you have reviewed the articles on the website, and you're still not sure whether your Display requires service, you can take your Display to your local Apple Authorized Service Provider (”AASP”) or Apple retail store for diagnosis.

Note: Diagnostic fees may apply for issues not covered under warranty or the AppleCare Protection Plan (APP).

Sound normal to me. Everyone that has one of these will be covered under warranty until next year.

If the display is brand new, then I don't think that a fee would apply. Another option is to get ProCare for your G5. It offers you priority service at the Apple Store. You can make an appointment ahead of time with a Genius. Also there is priority with repairs.

Where can I buy the new 23" monitor?

I'd like to buy it out of state a reseller so I don't have to pay for tax and maybe also get a better deal. Anyone have any recommendations? I'm in california...thanks!

I ordered my 23" on 07/16 in a bundle with a G5 dual 2.5. Now the computer has shipped but the display order status is still open -- which is odd, since during the past weeks a lot of people have got their 23" displays way before their G5 2.5s.

Something is brewing with quality control... I can smell it. Maybe Apple found out that too many of their alu displays have issues.

Hmmmm. Suspicious, suspicious. ;)

 Sorry, just my paranoia. The display has shipped now.

Have you looked at Amazon? They don't give you a price break, but it is tax free and includes free shipping.

dark areas on 23" screen

Finally received the G5 yesterday, hooked up the screen did the test etc machine working fine, no problems. Until I started to work on an image in Photoshop, I was trying to clean up a white background on the image and what ever I did did would not clean the left hand side of the image. I moved the image into the center of the screen and image was perfect.

I turn the desktop image to a block white and all round the edges of the screen was a dark shadow extending up to aprox 5" in places towards the center. Called Apple and they diagnosed a hardware problem. They are going to replace the screen asp, and i have to return this one when the other arrives, i was told they would arrange everthing thru TNT.

nice priced monitor

Yeah, but the "lower end" also starts at $1299. Don't think you'll find too many SWITCHERS at that price. I'll stick with my Dell 19" LCD with DVI input I picked up for under $400.
Sweet price! are you happy with it's performance, I am looking for a 19"LCD, and that is a great price

I'm sorry to hear about your screen. Your statement shows why Apple is number one in customer satisfaction. They work hard to do the right thing.

LG 23" Display??

I love the new design of the Apple 23" display. I also love the versatility of the LG L2320A with all of it's inputs and functions, but cannot find any user reviews to know how well it performs. Has anyone had experience with this unit. Also is there a "breakout" box that may work with the Apple displays that allows for multiple DVI connections, component, etc.

My 23", on the left side of the screen, has about a 3-4" strip where the color is not consistent with the rest of the screen. Whites are dingy, light grays and other light colors are practically faded out and appear as white (for example the blue lines in iTunes are so faded they look like the white lines), and just about every other color changes once it gets over into that section of the screen. I have tried different lighting conditions, different viewing angles and distances, adjusted the brightness, and even tried recalibrating the screen. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem. Do you think I will have any problems from apple trying to get a replacement?

Ghosting/Burn-in

Sorry to be off-topic, but has the ghosting/burn-in issue of the new displays been discussed here yet? I couldn't find a thread on MacRumors.

My brandnew 23" Alu Cinema Display shows a really annoying effect. If I move a finder window on a dark desktop background that hadn't been moved for a while, a "ghost" window stays in place -- for several minutes. :(

I know of at least three threads on this topic on Apple's discussion boards.

You definitely should give AppleCare a call. Better yet is you live near an Apple Store, I would take it in for a diagnosis. I'm sure that Apple will take good care of your problem. Try going into the situation with a positive and pleasant atitude.

Good point. I suspect many of the people who have trouble with warranty repair are the ones who start out being upset. If you have any difficulty, ask nicely to speak with someone else or try again the next day.

I keep thinking of the John Manzione episode when his PowerBook broke and he began by making a public fuss about it on his website.

I called up and they were more than willing to replace my monitor. They apologized several times for the inconvenience. They are allowing me to keep this current monitor until I get the replacement. Of course they charged my credit card again for the time being, but that's how I wanted to do it. It was a great experience with AppleCare.

I'm always happy to hear about another positive experience with AppleCare. They really want to take good care of customers. You always get a better response with a positive attitude.

hi guys, congrats to all you 23" & 20" owners.

My 23" is reserved for me at my reseller, waiting for the g5 2.5 to arrive. But I have a few questions, concerning the slew of posts from people complaining about a pink color issue on the new 23" acd.

I never saw one myself, until today, I checked out my reseller which had both of them on display (20" & 23"), and I first looked at the 23", didn't notice the pink effect, at least, I knew I was looking for pink stuff, so maybe I was a bit influenced, but when I went ahead and saw the 20", I must say it's quite a difference, especially viewable in the finder, with the metal borders. The 20" is perfectly grey, while the 23" is pinkish.

Though, some posters say calibrating it, and not using the default profile, helps solve the issue, while others say it comes back after a while.

I may go to the store again, and ask them to place them according to each other, and try to calibrate the 23" so it matches the 20". I hope they do that.

In the meantime, could you post your experiences with this issue?

thx!

Wow,

I posted about this a really long time ago and no one even commented on my post. The apple store here in Denver, CO has several 23" displays, RIGHT away I noticed the pinkness to which you are refering. I too compared it to the 20" .. very very noticable. I then saw a 23" that didn't have it and it was in the back of the store, I figured it could have just been my eyes. I mentioned it to the apple store employee and he and I did a very in depth caliberation of the display ... still looked pink to my eyes.

That being said. I bought one, took it home, and have no problem with pink tint...

I do think the problem is out there though. I would have to hear from others about their own expiriences to see how wide spread it is.

There is talk elsewhere in these forums that a supplied DVI to VGA cable may be at fault. Once it was replaced with a different cable, no more pinkeye.

Now that you mention it, i've read that as well, but isn't it a adc-to-dvi connector you are talking about?

Maybe i'll go to the store and hook it up to a dvi port, other than the adc connector, and see what happens. Glad to hear not every monitor is experiencing this issue. Hoping mine doesn't too, cause I don't know if they are going to take it back, since they didn't knew about the pink one in their store.. hmm

I can always ask to be able to attach my monitor to the powermac in the store, and see how it looks.

Please let us all know how this goes, I am very interested.

Unfortunately I believe the ones that I saw the Apple store were plugged strait into DVI. I may stop by there sometime soon and check again. In the mean time let me know about that DVI to ADC connector. I have been considering a second 23" (when I get the money a long time from now) and am going to have to use a ADC to DVI connector to run it.

Getting rid of the Pink

Like many others here and on the Apple support message boards, I received a monitor that exhibited a pink push.

It always seemed to get worse the more I looked at my screen to the point it was practically giving me a headache.

Today I visited both J&R and the Apple Store in SoHo. ALL of the 23" monitors on display had a pink cast to them, while ALL of the 20" monitors were perfect.

Long story short: I'd played with the monitor calibration tools but had no luck getting rid of the pink. I was thisclose to calling Apple and asking for an exchange. I played with the calibration tools once more and discovered that in my haste I'd overlooked the ability to shift the hue controls all around the color map, not just up and down like with the contrast controls.

With just a few attempts, I've managed to get rid of the pink push altogether and I couldn't be more relieved. The monitor looks fantastic (at least to the naked eye). I feel like an idiot, but at least now I'm a really happy idiot.
