It always seemed to get worse the more I looked at my screen to the point it was practically giving me a headache.
Today I visited both J&R and the Apple Store in SoHo. ALL of the 23" monitors on display had a pink cast to them, while ALL of the 20" monitors were perfect.
Long story short: I'd played with the monitor calibration tools but had no luck getting rid of the pink. I was this close to calling Apple and asking for an exchange. I played with the calibration tools once more and discovered that in my haste I'd overlooked the ability to shift the hue controls all around the color map, not just up and down like with the contrast controls.
With just a few attempts, I've managed to get rid of the pink push altogether and I couldn't be more relieved. The monitor looks fantastic (at least to the naked eye). I feel like an idiot, but at least now I'm a really happy idiot.

The most popular resolution nowadays is 1024x768 although the 17' is higher then that, is Apple assuming no one wants a 17' and would rather want a 20'-23' monitor, monitors ridiculously pricey that most people would consider a bit much?

I picked up my 23 inch from my reseller this morning, was worried it wouldn't work, but plugged it into my 1ghz 12inch PB and it was fine. No dead pixels as far as i can see, and the only problem i've had is that i have to tone down the resolution a notch to get smooth dvd watching - it was a little jerky at the highest res.
I suppose there is a slight pink tinge, but i haven't messed with the calibration at all, and am very happy with the stock setting.
ps
WDlove, ure like the daddy of the message boards here!

I wish I could test it myself, but I would have to go to my reseller for that, since it's still there. Oh well, if there are issues with my display or not, it will not solve them by knowing it in advance of my g5![]()

Hm, I'd really, really like to know if some of you can reproduce the "burn-in/ghosting" issue. If you have time, please look here [macrumors.com]. Thanks a lot.

i just meant that whenever someone is having a moan, a problem, or like me just a positive review, you consistently have a supportive or helpful comment. I'm a bit of lurker btw, so i don't post too often. Mainly because the internet here is quite slow and the replies don't often work.
Oh how i love this display...

I'm ordering a G5 from apple, but was thinking that I would just get the display at a near by store. They have a 30 return policy on them which will give me plenty of time to look for defects, ie: dead pixels.
I don't think apple takes back displays for dead pixels, and I'm the type that would want to return it if it even had only one dead pixel!
I'll be getting the apple care for the G5, but am so worried about the display that I'm considering the above mentioned.
I've talked to many sales reps and have heard many different stories ie: you can return it within 10 days for any reason, we exchange for dead pixels, we don't exchange for dead pixels, apple care covers pixels, apple care doesn't cover pixels...blah, blah blah, I can't get a straight answer, it's maddening!!
Anyway, bottom line, do I need extended warranty on a display?
thanks in advance for all opinions.
