Question:

I got the "older" 23' Cinema Display at the same time I bought my 2.5G5. It's been sitting in the box for over a month just waiting for the mac to attach it to. Considering the new displays are shipping, do you think I should attempt to return this monitor for the new one? I'm sure we'd be able to work something out. It's still in the box, and a ton of people's orders were switched anyway. What do you guys think?

-Brian

You can always just open the box, harm it in some sort of way (ie, electric zapper), and return it D.O.A. But that would be cheating and lying (unless it really came D.O.A...). I don't think you have a chance. Sorry, but next time have the display and computer ship together.

If that's a dilemma, considering the high list of TOP apple equipement you have, I would suggest you take the 2 x 23" displays and just buy the 30" as a modern painting on the wall. Or you can buy 2 x 30" !! You probably can afford it.. ;) (no offence dud just makes me laugh, that you call that a dilemma while about 99.9% of the people in this world cannot afford even 1 23" display)
Here's the deal. I bought the 23" at a CompUSA and purchased the Technology Assurance Program plan with it ($109) -- it covered malfunctions AND if new technology came out. Then they would give face value and all you do is pay the difference. I did it with the 22" just after the 23" HD came down to $1,999 (from $3,499). They did an even swap for free -- after a year and a half.

They've since changed their policy and only take broken equipment, but since I bought the TAP before policy-change, they agreed to do it once more. I can either get another new-styled 23" OR get a 30" and pay the $1299 difference.

Besides..That were some cool smileys

UGGH! I just ordered a 23 inch Cinema HD display to compliment my new 1.5ghz G4 15 inch powerbook and the ship date is August 10th. Same for the airport express I ordered. What gives? Does anyone else have this date for shipping. Some guy said he ordered yesterday and it shipped today!

You will probably get yours in the next day or two. THe date is just a forecast. If you notice that when you placed the monitor in your shopping basket it still says 2-4 weeks. I ordered mine this morining with a date of 8/12. However I am expecting it by Friday with next day shipping.

23 Cinema HD On order, AirTunes on order
Contemplating Dual G5...maybe rev c?

I'm got a dilemma (albeit a nice dilemma):

I can't decide between getting two 23" displays or one 30" display. Right now, I'm working with a 23" and a 21" CRT (so I like having the separate work areas), but DAMN, the 30" is just so big and juicy...

Your thoughts?

As long as you don't have to share the monitor with another system as well I'd say get the 30. Just remember that you would need one of the new $$ 6800's to go with each machine you wanted to use the 30" with.

I believe that the 30" will be just amazing. So I would go for one 30" instead of two 23". Does anybody need more space than 2560 x 1600 resolution? shure you can open more windows and stuff. But are two times 1920 by 1200 manageable and ergonomically? one might loose the mousepointer

I work with two 17" CRT and hate the edge between the two screens. I bought one of the first series dual G5 and am waiting for a new 23" cinema displays to match the look of the G5 ... BUT ... now the announced the 30". My dilemma is to squeze some more $$ through my budget.

Yeah, that would be wrong, since i'm looking at 2 2.5GHzs right now.

AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How did you get that??!!??

Who did you kill, or sleep with to get yours?? Details would be extremely helpful/useful/nice.

Thanks for the info dude, and nice house. :)

Alright Jim,

Now that you've tossed out that "gauntlet" , would you mind following up with some impressions for those that are anxiously awaiting our own?

BTW, for the other folks who are wondering about Dual 2.5 G5 deliveries, my husband has his name on a waiting list at a local Apple Store (he's #3!) and they told him today they are expecting them some time next week.

We'll see.

30" Display requires the 6800 Broad. Takes up an additional PCI or PCI-X slot next to the AGP slot when installed because it's huge. You have to take that into consideration. Also you can keep the 23" break down the ADC with an adapter to DVI ($99 odd) and have both connected. The 6800 has more than enough power to drive both displays. Now that would be cool... Last question... Money. Don't rob banks it's illegal and you need to have a BMW with an iPod built in for good music and fast song switching while driving white knuckled on the get away. That and well you have to rob your first bank to get the BMW. Then the second bank for the iPod retrofit... The dilemma goes on and on... And on...

Here's a pic of the shipping box. For whatever reason people on another thread wanted to see that as well. I can post some more tonight when I get it home. Any requests :p

it would probably go on and on less if you would have read his previous posts explaining how he plans on buying the new monitor.

Maybe I am just sentimental but I like the older displays better. Never was a huge fan of the aluminum look, thats why I went for the iMac 17" instead of a low end PowerMac with display.

Then your solution is simple:

Get the 30".

Connect a 30" and your "old" 23" at the same time.

Best of both worlds... for a cost you were already considering.
