Thanks, MacsRgr8! You're my hero. Very nice of you to make the trip for the pics.

Lucky You

Min is Aug 11th - and to top that off I leave for vvacation on the 10th for two weeks! Might as well be Aug 23rd!

:D Well - I can only hope both the 23in and the dual 2.5 ships early.... but when I look at the card (6800), the screen and the CPU - and then I look at my b/w g3 (G4 550 now) - I know the wait will be worth it!

UGGH! I just ordered a 23 inch Cinema HD display to compliment my new 1.5ghz G4 15 inch powerbook and the ship date is August 10th. Same for the airport express I ordered. What gives? Does anyone else have this date for shipping. Some guy said he ordered yesterday and it shipped today!

-------------
Sawtooth G4 1.5ghz/1gb/120HD/Rad9800/DVD-107D
Powerbook G4 1.5ghz/1gb/80HD@5400/Rad9700128/Combo
23 Cinema HD On order, AirTunes on order
Contemplating Dual G5...maybe rev c?

thx macsrgr8, now my patience is being tested even harder :)

At least it's nice to know the 'benelux' countries don't lag behind in shipping times. Hopefully my 23" (ordered on july 3rd through official reseller) will be here soon.. ah well, i'll have to hook it up to my pc for a while, since the 2.5 won't be here for some time. Anybody knows how they deal with orders placed through apple store and official resellers? I bet online customers are treated before others, or is this not true?

Yep, we should definitly give him some merit for driving all the way to work. Thanks a lot. It is just too bad that I am travelling too much to fully be able to use an external monitor... oh well once I settle down :D

Tnx for your kind replies!

It wasn't too much of a trouble and it was fun.

Regarding Apple Online Store vs. Resellers... I dunno. This 20" was via the Apple Online Store, and I know there are many differences in resellers too.

I hope klaus' Dual 2.5 arrives quickly! The have started shipping...

Your PB is well equiped to run the 23" display. Don't worry about it.

What about a G4 Ti Laptop ? I doubt it will be able to drive the 23" :(

I have a Dual 2.5 Ghz and 23" display on order ( well, putting the order in today. If my bank has transferred some money for me like I asked them too. Knowing my bank, probably not !! )

I cant wait to get my new Mac and display. I think my Display may arrive before the Mac, which is why I was asking of I could use it with my laptop. Otherwise I hill have to just stare at it's blank screen until the Dual 2.5 gets here

All in all, i am a very happy bunny :) These new macs and displays are very tasty. Looking forward to putting them through their paces.

thx! but I don't know about that shipping thing though, laks confirmation from people who actually got confirmation, maybe in the next few days.

About that reseller thing, sure, there are differences, the 'smaller' ones will have to wait longer, but I ordered at the only official apple center for belgium, so I'm hoping they are high up in the resellers list :)

enjoy your new display!

Just one little question...

I got an 15' Aluminium Powerbook 1Ghz with an ATI 64MG card...
will I have any problems driving a 23inch Apple display on the DVI-connection ?

Any help would be greatly appriciated...

No.

You need the special Video card to drive the 30" display. It won't work with a Powerbook. You will be limited (!) to the 23" display... But that display should work just fine, even with the 64MB vido card.

I wouldn't sweat it. In my opionion, Apple just hasn't updated their shipping times, which still says 2-4 weeks. If you count the number of business days, August 10th is probably 4 weeks. I too have an August 10th ship date, but I am expecting it will be shipped out this week, unless of course Apple is out of stock already.

According to the tech specs, any G4 PowerBook with DVI out and 10.2.8 or later will work for the 20s or 23s.

23 Inch Display

Has anybody taken shipment of the 23 inch, so far all I have seen are the 20's. BTW has anyone else noticed how massive the 20's look in real-life pictures vs. the apple web site where its in the shadow of the 30? I thought that that 23 would be just the right size but after seeing the 20 in the flesh (or at least pictures)...I might need a bigger desk for my deuce-trey! :D

Ok, The 30" is awesome, but too expensive for me.. I ordered the 23" wich indeed I thought was BIG and I mean HUGE when I saw that in reallife. (the previous version) so I'll be satisfied like hell when I get it!

Imagine I used to think a 21 inch CRT display was HUGE, I owned one of those 21" CRT apple studio displays. Everyone thought it was big. Wait until they see the this 23" display..

it'll be awesome!

BTW, I have a question about the G5's memory. I ordered 2 times a 1 GB kit from Kingston to fill up the empty slots and so I would have 2.5 GB of RAM. Now I thought a "kit" would exist out of 2 times 512, so together it would give 1 GB. Now since the memory has allready arrived, it seems that each kit exists out of 2 times 1 gig!!! ???? How do those dual slots actually work? Is it that you have to add 2 times 1 GB left and right and the system will recognize it as 1 GB? Or does it really all counts up? Because then I would have 4.5 GB RAM in this coming machine!!!! That would be awesome!

Each slot for memory on the MB will be counted into the total. It does not count them in pairs. Hence 1 gig chips in 2 slots doesn't not equal 1 gig total, it equals 2.

To explain, I have 4 512 chips, 2 pairs of 2. This means my total is 2gigs of ram 512 *4. So if you have 4 gig chips and 2 256 meg chips you will have 4.5 gigs of memory at your hands... which I must say is very very disgusting. In a nice way.

You have to have one of these in front of you to appreciate the size they really are. Right now Im typing this on my 17" Widescreen iMac, its a huge screen on this thing! Sometimes I feel as though the extra space is wasted on me cause I have to turn my eyes to the far right or far left to see the edges.

I can only imagine another 3" added for the 20", 6" more for the 23", and (gasp) 13" added for the 30" monster! That 30" has to be massive! I dont even think the table I have my iMac sitting on it 30" across!! LOL. Time for me to head to an apple store to check out all this new stuff. Im so happy with my iMac, has not let me down once since I switched in Feb of this year :)

It's kind of funny. You contact the Apple retail stores or even the mail order houses (i.e. macmall) they don't even know that they're shipping. After I tell them that the monitors are shipping they still stand firm with their "end of the month" spiel.

FWIW,

I called the Short hills apple store (north new jersey) the other day and the guy on the phone said "the next few days"... So at least he was acknowledging them coming soon.

I'll probably call again this weekend and see if they're in stock.

Wow these displays really look nice, thanks to MacsRgr8 for the pics. I hate the front on angle that Apple show 90% of the time, but at any other angle they look amazing. I will have to stop myself attempting to upgrade from my old 20" to the new 23". There is no way I can afford it anyway

YESSSSSSSS 23 BABY

Im picking mine up at 8:30pm tonight...location is TOP SECRET. Anyone wanna host pics for me? Ill take a whole bunch. 23 incher on the way baby, Its gonna look ridiculous in comparison to the 15 inch display I have now :D

The fox is in the henhouse, you know what to do!
